Appendicitis and diverticulitis

Common Questions and Answers about Appendicitis and diverticulitis

appendicitis

Avatar n tn Another possibility is diverticulitis, which would be more common in somebody in late 40s or older. I don't see your age on your profile. Diverticulitis is often linked to constipation.
Avatar n tn It could be early appendicitis or your gallbladder. If the colonoscopy is normal it probably is not colitis or diverticulitis. I suggest you make an appt with your doctor ASAP.
471949 tn?1236904026 Hi there. I'm very sorry you are ill. They should have checked your white count. What was that number? Can you describe how the pain progressed? Where did it start? Where did it move to? Where is it now? Are you still having bowel movements? What medication did they give you - antibiotics? I'm not an MD, but my husband started having abdominal pain, and by his description of the pain I told him we were going to the ER because he had appendicitis.
Avatar f tn As soon as she left the bedside, I told my ex I still thought it was appendicitis. The surgeon got there and heard the story, saw the white count, and examined him. He said it was gangrenous appendicitis and started an IV. Then after 6 hours or something he took out his appendix. So yeah, it can be confusing sometimes. The thing they most often confuse it with is diverticulitis. That can be even worse than appendicitis though.
Avatar n tn I have had back pain that feels like a kidney infection for a year. I had been tested for it and even kidney stones and was neg. I am so relieved that this may be the answer that I have been searching for, for 2 yrs. I am also frustrated that it wasn't found sooner. I am 42, good weight and eat healthy so I guess that I dont fit the profile. I dont know. I eat healthy and watch everything that I eat because of the issues I have. I already eat a high fiber diet.
Avatar n tn I find that cortisol (a stress hormone) gets low over time when people have prolonged stressful problems. For example, chronic food allergies (like grain allergy) can stress the body and result in "beaten down" adrenals over time and give low cortisols. The thyroid antibody means that your immune system is attacking your thyoid.
1995033 tn?1334163103 Sorry this is not pregnancy related but I have no one else to talk to. My boyfriend has been having abdominal pain n high fever. He has a history of diverticulitis. We are at the hospital I wrll give birth at just incase...
Avatar n tn What you describe could be a number of things, including pancreatitis, appendicitis, diverticulitis, ... or something else altogether. This set of symptoms doesn't seem to be the type one can afford to ignore. Pls see a doc/urgent care right away. Hope you'll write again to let us know how you're doing.
Avatar f tn He said that he has never seen a white american female with right sided diverticulitis in his entire career...I then went and saw a second gastro and she said that I do have diverticulitis and to start a high fiber diet. I did the high fiber diet which caused me to have pain where my diverticulitis was, needless to say I stopped. I have made another appt with another gastro that came highly recommended by a friend of the family who is a pathologist, but that is 2 weeks away.
Avatar f tn Early appendicitis too behaves this way and so does peptic ulcer. It could also be cystitis, urinary tract infection, diverticulitis or inflammatory bowel disease. It can also be a fistula between umbilicus and urinary bladder. You need to consult a surgeon for this. Please seek another opinion. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn You were right in suspecting appendicitis and kidney stones. Kidney stones can persist for years and cause symptoms only when they start moving. They can move, cause pain and again remain in a position for long periods of time. Similarly chronic appendicitis too can behave this way with bouts of pain, localization of infection and inflammation and a symptom free period.
Avatar f tn Lower right abdomen pain is commonly due to appendicitis. The pain, can at times come and go and not give the classic picture. Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, infection in kidney, kidney stones, constipation, and an abscess in rectus abdominis muscle or psoas muscle can all cause lower right abdomen pain. In your case since the lymph nodes are also swollen, there is a chance that you have either a local infection, vaginitis, cervicitis etc or there is a chance of STD (is that possible?
Avatar f tn Ive also had several different blood and urine tests to look for infections, kidney stones and thyroid problems etc.. I did have a colonoscopy approx. 5 years ago which was fine and I had an endoscopy about 3 years ago. I do have acid reflux and in the past had hemmoroids, I'm otherwise very healthy and fit. There is a history of Diverticulitis in my family.
Avatar n tn You could have Irritable bowel syndrome, or you could have appendicitis, or diverticulitis...this could be a few different things.
806966 tn?1238187717 I have had intense abdominal pain for 10 days w/ nausea, vomiting, IBS symptoms, bloated & my GP sent me 2 days ago for a CT scan to R/O appendicitis. I have Diverticulitis & I somewhat understand what diverticulitis is but would welcome any advice. The CT scan also showed "prominent endometrial and endocervical fluid" & my doc. referred me to GYN for consult. I called to schedule & the GYN is at a conference & my appt. is 10 days away.
Avatar f tn Lower right abdomen pain is commonly due to appendicitis. The pain, can at times come and go and not give the classic picture. Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, infection in kidney, kidney stones, constipation, ovary involvement in women, ectopic pregnancy in women (ruled out due to long history) , and mesentry (a thin tissue that carries the blood, nerves and lymphatics for the intestine) involvement.
Avatar m tn For the last couple days I have been having aching type pain in my stomach along with the right mid/lower part of my abdomen (where my intestines seem to be). I went to my general doctor and he said it might be h plylori infection. He ran a test to check for that. Can stomach pain from h pylori also cause pain in the intestines (which is where the right sided mid/lower pain seems to be)? Also, about a year ago I had colon resection surgery for diverticulitis in my descending colon.
Avatar f tn I went to an aftercare and was told it could be appendicitis so they sent me to the er. The pain just kept getting worse and worse even at the er. They gave me a dose of hydrocodone and it did not even touch the pain. By now I was up to about an 8/10 for pain level. Then as the hour went on my pain became a 12/10 to the point where I was literally moaning and crying in pain in my lower right side all the way around to my back. They gave me two does of dilated at it did not touch it.
Avatar m tn dont think its appendicitis though or kidney stones... and if your eating healthy and you feel physically fit then your not sick, its probably just a muscle problem of some sort...
Avatar f tn Some of the common causes of pain in abdomen are hepatitis or hepatic abscess, cholecystitis, perforated duodenal ulcers, appendicitis, diverticulitis, adenitis, abdominal abscess or hematoma, inflammatory bowel disease etc. You must consult a gastroenterologist as soon as possible for proper examination with tests like ultrasound, blood tests, biochemical tests etc.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with diverticulitis and put on flaxyl and cipro. 2 weeks later I had diarrhea-woke me up at night and went 14-20 times a day for over a week. Had general fatigue and chills/aches at night. Had coloscopy in August-showed some mild inflammation in ilieum and rectal area-was put on Asacol. Asacol helped the rectal pain but RLQ pain continued. Went back to ED in Nov for severe RLQ pain. CT and bloodwork normal.
Avatar m tn I am not sure if this is what caused it, but yesterday, at basketball practice, I took a hard fall tripping over someones foot and landed on my right side, elbows, and both my knees. My body ached from than on until about 11-12 at night. The area also hurts when i press HARD and push in on that area which is about 5 inches to the right of my bellybutton. Again, the pain isn't unbearable but more like on a scale of 1-10, it would be a four or five.
Avatar n tn t smoke or drink, I work out 3 - 4 times a week for 30 minutes to an hour, I eat a low fat, high vegetable diet with animal and plant protiens, and I am frankly at my wits end. I have tried homeopathic remedies, probiotics, over the counter diarrhea medication. I have booked appointments with a Naturopath and a follow up with my family doctor to talk about my stool tests, but I am looking for someone who has gone through this as well.
Avatar f tn t get my self to sleep because of the pain and this has never happened to me before and its getting worse and worse everyday and im scared that it might be something serious. Can someone tell me what they think might be?
