Common Questions and Answers about Anxiety relief without drowsiness

anxiety

I have been in treatment for depression and anxiety for 12 years. I have tried a plethora of drugs and have found very limited and short term relief from my symptoms. I have also been in therapy multiple times with little relief. Recently, I had a root canal and was prescribed Tylnol with Vicodin or Codeine (I don't remember which). I took the medicine for 3 days and felt an almost complete relief of my symptoms. I didn't feel high or out of control, I felt normal.
Can shifts from extreme anxiety one day to extreme depression the next be construed as bi-polar? I have been suffering for 1.5 years with this. Have tried all ssri's and with each one after a week or 2 my fear increases ten-fold. This is at normal effective dosages. Maybe try introductory dosage? Had same problem with effexor. Was able at one point to get to 15mg on paxil for about 2 months but didn't do anything. Currently take .5 of ativan twice daily with 100mg neurontin three times a day.
itself will cause the anxiety. This would be something you should talk to your GP about. I have anxiety that comes and goes and i too start feeling really sick when i go to leave my house, shaking, nausea, lightheaded, ect...i've had anxiety on and off since my teens but never this bad so i too am looking for some advice and talking to my dr about it.
My doctor has suggested increasing the dosage to 30mg to see if it could help moderate my anxiety. I'd be interested in the experiences of other members of this community with this medication. Thanks for your help.
Does anyone know if Amitriptyline increases anxiety? Or does it increase anxiety at the beginning until it settles? I spoke to my family doctor about this and his response was I am on too low a dose for it to affect my anxiety. Should I ask for an additional med (like Xanax?) to combat my anxiety? Keep taking Amit. longer to see if it settles?
But because it is an older antidepressant, its effects are not seen until 4 - 6 weeks after beginning the medication (one of the major downfalls when you need relief from panic/anxiety asap). So far, I have noticed a slight decrease in my anxiety. While I have never had a full blown panic attack, I have experienced some of the symptoms associated with them. My main issue for trying Elavil is for its supposed 'sedating' effect.
Has anyone used compazine for anxiety? I have a script for it because when anxiety hits me, it effects my stomach - I get real nauseous and to top it off, I have a phobia of getting sick (emetophobia) - which doesn't help at all! I LOVE compazine because it blocks that brain receptor of nausea and when it's blocked, my anxiety goes away. One 10mg. pill will last me two days. I talked with my doc last week about taking it long term and she really didn't give me a straight answer.
Partial relief should begin within 5 minutes, complete relief when the combined effect of the oral benedryl kicks in (20-30 minutes). Relief from the itching should last approx 3 to 6 hours. All the benedryl WILL make you sleepy. NOTE: sometimes the lanacaine alone works pretty well but for best results consistently I had to do ALL the steps EXACTLY as I described. My doc said it was a pretty ingenious regimen I came up with and had nothing bad to say about it.
Hello Jul~I am sorry that you are suffering so from anxiety, I experience it too as well as the full blown panic attack, I know they are no fun. You said they were getting worse? Are you under any extra stresses lately? As to what to take, well, a good, food grade multi-vitamin and mineral is a good start. Make sure also, that you get a good amount of the "B" vitamin, this is the "nerve" vitamin, and without enough, you will have all kinds of anxiety, etc.
I finally reached the 200 mg dose of Lamictal and was on that dose for 2 1/2 weeks. Maybe I should have given it longer. I wanted relief from my anxiety and I wasn't as social. I went on a girls trip and just wanted to go to bed early for some reason. I was more quiet and had fears of death and had crying spells on it. I didn't want to waste any more time. Celexa did well for me so I decided I gave Lamictal long enough and should feel better by then.
Sometimes even during the day I'd have to run into the bathroom to vomit. I began having bad anxiety. I tried to hide it. Kept going to work. Until one day I just couldn't take it anymore. Things got real bad. So I finally quit. A friend of mine was smoking pot one day and I smoked some to calm me down. I had only smoked pot once before. I didn't have a bad reaction to it then. But this time, I don't know what happened. I went into a very bad panick.
i dont really know whats going on or why i have been picked out of a hat to have this problem. i had been going through those damn dizzy spells for months and wasting all my money on dr's (that i dont have) for them to tell me im perfectly healthy. Great! so why do i feel so ****** everyday??? this brings me to this panic disorder the therapist are telling me im having. i believe her. but shyt everyday i feel just constantly worried about another attack coming.....
Am I willing to put up with unpleasant side effects in return for anxiety relief? What non-drug treatments for anxiety might help? Do I have the time and am I willing to pursue non-drug treatments such as cognitive-behavioral therapy? What self-help strategies might help me get my anxiety under control? If I decide to take anxiety medication, should I pursue other therapy as well? Questions to ask your doctor How will the medication help my anxiety? What are the drug’s common side effects?
Hi, I've dealt with anxiety and panic attacks for years now but recently I've had the physical symptoms like rapid heartbeat, difficulty breathing and chest pains even when I wasnt having a panic attack. I dont take any medications because I dont want to be put on anti-depressants or other heavy medications that alter my mood, etc-I'd like to treat this natually if I could. Does anyone suffer the physical symptoms without having a panic attack? And what can I do to make them go away?
Xanax (in case you haven't tried it) is for fast relief. When my panic and anxiety kicked in and I was waiting for the Zoloft to kick in, I had Xanax and took it 2 - 3 times a day. Then I decreased it to night time so I wouldn't wake up in an attack. Now that the Zoloft has kicked in full blown I only take 1/2 pill at night or so to sleep.
Thanks for the information I also have anxiety and find it stressful to go into a supermarket I can't even go to my favorite shopping mall without having a anxiety attack. I have been taking Lexapro for six weeks and fill no relief Thanks.
There are naturally-grown herbs and supplements on the market that work just as well if not better than what you might find in your doctor's cabinet, because your body recognizes these herbs. The best part is you can find stress relief without the drowsiness, lethargy, numbness, weight gain, brain "spasms" and every other symptom that prescription psychotics bring on.
Hi, My name is Stephanie and I am a 21 year old college student, with no history of anxiety problems (however my mom has problems w/anxiety. Recently I have been having extreme anxiety concerning my health (which started about 2 1/2 months ago when I briefly passed out while getting up too quickly from bed.) The week after that happened, I began having all sorts of problems, such as feeling dizzy, light headed, ringing in the ears, and going numb in my hands/feet.
For me, taking the dog for a really long walk, swimming, or working out can really help my anxiety. Don't forget that at times when your anxiety is really bad, your diet is very important. Reach for the fresh fruits and vegetables whenever you feel peckish. Don't eat too close to bed time as that disrupt your sleep. Always go to bed thinking positive thoughts, so don't watch a horror movie or a depressing programme before retiring to bed. Music is great therapy for me.
To Forum PHD/Everyone: Anyone have ideas on alleviating the depression and anxiety after an intial detox is complete? I think is the key to relapse - keeping a positive mood. I have tried both 5htp and the L-Tyrosine, but these seem to make the anxiety worse - not better. Any ideas would be most appreciated...
I wouldn't recommend increasing your dosage without the consent of your doctor, who may be able to prescribe a different benzo which will still give you relief from your anxiety, but without this particular side effect. There are many medication options available, but without taking action, you'll probably continue to suffer. Finally, I'd like to say that the lack of sleep you are experiencing can cause more anxiety as well as a multitude of physical problems. See or talk with your doctor soon.
But the doctor told that my anxiety level was too high. Maybe it's related to anxiety disorder and they prescribed me xanax and some anti depressant oral pill..it works..
Suboxone may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or impaired thinking. If you experience drowsiness, dizziness, or impaired thinking, avoid these activities. Avoid alcohol while taking Suboxone. Alcohol may dangerously increase drowsiness and dizziness caused by the medication.
Then you can take antihistaminics like Benadryl or Claritin but since they cause drowsiness you should take them at night. Since sometimes anxiety and stress can trigger neurodermatitis symptoms, anti-anxiety drugs often can help prevent the itchiness associated with the disorder. Also ensure to trim your nails so that scratching does not cause any injuries and any secondary infection. Hope that this information helps and hope that you will get better soon. Wishing you good health.
Be careful with the morphine, it's way addictive and causes lethargy and fatigue even without extended use. The clonazepam is also addictive but very good for relief from anxiety. Using it before bed should aid in helping you sleep. Prednisone will jack anybody up and I'm sure know to slowly decrease the dosage. Just because the black box warning on the treatment drugs say you may experience suicidal tendencies doesn't mean it happens to everyone.
As my doctor explained to me, Lyrica has to be taken every day, gradually increasing the dosage until you hopefully see some relief from pain. I have not known it to be used to take only when you are experiencing anxiety symptoms. As I say, I have only known it to be a daily dosage for nerve pain. If doctor's are now using Lyrica for relief of anxiety symptoms, that totally new news for me. I am a member of the MS Forum and many over there have taken it for nerve pain.
It's like taking a xanex without the drowsiness. I mean this is the best I've felt in over a week. Like I said these things are different for everybody so pay attention to how they effect you. But right now my anxiety level is definately down to barely noticable levels. I've read a few amino threads this week and just thought I'd add a little personal experience.
This helps me sleep a little better. Its a anxiety med. but it causes drowsiness so its also used to help sleep disorders. I also stretch my legs, ride my exercise bike,go for walks and there is this stretch I do.....lets see...lie on the floor on your back then bring your knees to your forehead. Its like when you do the pedaling thing but bring your legs over your head and you should be able to see your knees keep your legs straight. Well...
