ALL DRUGS ARE DANGEROUS when not used properly, this means the ones you get from the doctor or over the counter.Nobody should EVER get drugs on the street. Even drugs that are not addictive can do serious damage to the body if used either in the wrong amounts or for the wrong reason. Aspirin for instance, can cause severe internal bleeding problems. Apparently some people get addicted to antihistamines which I just learned here and never knew before.
Is it possible to become addicted to over the counter medications? My 75 year old mother recently moved to my town so that I could help her financially, etc. I have become very concerned about the amount of excederine, prilosec, nasal spray, aleve, and other antacid medicines that she takes. She has a history of bleeding ulcers, she smokes about 2 packs of cigarettes a week, high blood pressure, and other ailments of old age. I didn't realize that she was taking so much of this medicine.
She may be using them as a form of a diet pill. I believe many of the medications that contain pseudofedrine are now sold behind the counter as they have been used in the production of meth. Does she ever by ephedrine which is sold in many convenient stores. She may just be using the meds for the pep they give when taken in normal doses for some or larger doses for others. In fact as of 1-1-07. you have to show an ID and sign a DEA log.
I WAS TAKING 1/2 THE DOSE OF OVER THE COUNTER SLEEP AID FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS ON A NIGHTLY BASIS, AND STARTING HAVING TOLERANCE WITHDRAWAL SYMPTONS. I QUIT COLD TURKEY AND WENT INTO FULL BLAST WITHDRAWAL.
The LDL has not varied much. The HDL has risen from the 50's to the 70's in the past three years. My triglycerides were about 170, then rose sharply to the 300's two years ago, then subsided again--this may be because I have been watching my sugar intake a lot more the last couple of years. The total has risen from the 250's to current level just recently. The ratio has improved.
It continued off and on most of the day , and after dinner, while cleaning up, I tried to ignore what my body was telling me, but ended up slumped over the counter and it felt like there was an elephant on my chest. I was rushed to e.r. I had had a heart attack with a blockage in mid- LAD cleared and stented (the funny thing is that no one could tell me how I got a blockage when I do not have high cholesterol).

I dont think taking the codiene is a good idea when you are coming off opiates, just take some nyquill "without the codiene". Try some melatonin or something like that for sleep. I would take a hot bath in the wee hours of the night just to get some more sleep before i had to up. Good luck to you staying clean again, it's so worth it.

drugs, afraid of the side effects, some people wont take prescription drugs even if they have very high BP and don't even get me started on the statins. So many people will never take them. But when it comes to illegal drugs or over the counter stuff people put together to get "high" all of a sudden the "side effects" don't matter and are not being looked into. As for the "meth" you do NOT have to educate me on this.
before taking any other OTC drugs (over-the-counter). Can be taken in the AM or PM regardless of meals. Avoid alcohol while taking. Whew!!!! I don't know if you care to know all of that, but I thought I would tell you anyway because I want you to have the right information about what medication your taking. Remember, it's an anti-depressant. Usually antidepressants take 2 to several weeks before you building up a blood level........that's really important for you to know.

I can't travel in a car or go very many places these days without fear of 'hanging the head over the edge'. I will up my water, I probably am more dehydrated than usual even though I drink nearly 3 liters a day.
I would also avoid some ''natural'' over the counter supplements such as 5-HTP; Oxitriptan or anything related to tryptophan if you are very scared about serotonin syndrome. Final word is don't worry about upping your Zoloft dose you it won't induce a serotonin syndrome because 100mg is way less than an overdose and if you don't mix it with other anti-depressants or serotonin acting drugs like described above your chance of serotonin toxicity is close to none at all.
Melatonin has been banned from over-the-counter sale in Great Britain, Canada, and many European countries. Most melatonin sold in the U.S. is synthetic, although some health food store clerks may confuse customers by insisting the products are "all natural." http://www.websciences.org/sltbr/melfaq.htm Just having HCV increases our chances of getting autoimmune disease, retina problems, and lymphoma.
There are meds that will reduce the amount of junk that collects in your sinuses, both over-the-counter antihistimine type drugs or whatever, and also your regular doc can prescribe you something with less side effects. But I think another item you might consider, until you can get around to losing some weight, is a positive pressure air mask. They are not as difficult as you might think.

I was on Phenteramine 37.5 (by a Dr.) & was taking it with over the counter sinus medicine (didn't know you couldn't mix the two) I had to come off of the Phenteramine/Sinus meds because I had a reaction to the two drugs..i started feeling extremely blue (crying) and had some anxiety..(had a fear of being left alone & of feeling anxious)..that was about a month ago..My dr. put me on Ativan as needed and said I would eventually be back to normal..I do feel better.
I would have thought the anxiety would have gone by now. I know sleep will help, but I need to get rid of the anxiety first.
75mg zopiclone each month on a repeat prescription as im a believer that its always handy to have sleeping tablets and they beat the rubbish over the counter ones, but must be taken sparingly ie once a month if needed or addiction will follow. Good luck anxiety sufferers.feel free to inbox me for help.....
Reading all this info about an immune response and Micrscopic colitis has me worried. I was dignosed with generalized anxiety disorder, the lexapro is helping with the anxiety, but at what cost? I think the side effect out weighs the benefit! I do not want to be a slave to the bathroom the rest of my life, I think I will tapper down and stop all together. Any thoughts?
over the counter. I have GED and about four years ago I had a knee operation and was given Norco 10/325 really the same thing as you . It is well known that opiates are one of the best drugs for anxiety that exist . Trouble is it does not last forever and when they turn on you it can vamp up the anxiety problems ten fold ! As far a Xannex is concerned I go to the UCLA anxiety disorders clinic and most doctors will not prescribe it because of the nasty side effects and really bad W/Ds .
Some may remember me like Rex and Methman who helped me in the past, by the way, thank you. But I tried the totally off narcs method by using over the counter drugs, therapy, tried accupuncture but nothing worked, the pain is way too great. By the way the pain is from 2 flopped surguries to put my right hand back together which 4 seperate hand surgeons concluded is no more repairable. Now what do I do? I am about 32 days off narcs but my work and family is suffering immensly over my pain.
Suggested Solution - Based on what Quix already stated and others I feel that If a doctor thinks a patient has depression and that the depression is the underlying cause of the symptoms based on good medical testing prior, then by all means explain the need for a trial use of anxiety or depression drugs for a fixed period of time and then FOLLOW+UP with the patient. It is amazing how that f/u can help the patient feel that the doctor really cared about helping them.
The next day anxiety is worse because of the hangover, so you drink to get over that. But then if you want to quit, you also have terrible anxiety. After a few days sober, you are so anxious that drinking seems like the only solution, and so on. I think that making it past those first few vital days is really important. And I really think that guys like us will be able to do it, because we want to change so badly. St.
