I am concerned in that because is elderly that he is being medicated for something neurological they were unable to diagnose. I had an elderly friend of the family whom my mother knew. He was in the hospital and he had some blood loss after surgery. He started talking incoherently because of this and they almost gave him Risperdal for "psychosis". Of course my mother stopped them and he did not have any "psychosis" but imagine if she hadn't.
Your mom needs to come off these drugs with a taper. The elderly are very sensitive to some of these drugs and they build up higher levels in their systems. In the state of Maryland all complaints go the Maryland Board of Physicans. I like the way the doctor says to just stop after 45 years!

first off let me start by saying im no doctor, but i used to smoke weed until my first panic attack caused by smoking it. after the attack im now suffering from anxiety and im so upset with myself for it, i was so paranoid, thinking that someone had spiked the weed and had me very ill, but reading alot of post and alot of differant web sites, i have learned that marijuana can cause panic attacks, which i think you have proved this for yourself, an if so why are you still smoking it.
Since the change I feel very tingly all over,arms and feet are cold,Penis when erect fills very different and have erections for prolonged period,dizziness, muscle aching, Insomnia and when I go to sleep my head will jerk 2 or 3 times. Just read a bit about it. It seems to be one of a new class of drugs that began in Europe that are basically looking at melatonin rather the usual suspects. But melatonin will only work well if the problem is your Circadian rhythms are off -- if your sleep problem is from another cause, this might not work. One thing about using melatonin is the dose -- most people take too much, thinking more is better.
Im concerned about side effects from certain meds. that an elderly person was prescibed from a psychiatrist. If you maybe depressed and never took psychotropic drugs, can one side effect lead to screaming uncontrollably. Does your brain reject chemicals that the body doesn't understand.

I also read the mayo clinic pges on this drug and it looks worse and worse especially for elderly patients.
