1005799 tn?1250391928 You may still need one or the other for extreme panic. Meditation is also a good way to help manage the anxiety. I can't do the "clear your mind and think of nothing" version, but there is also a free thought version of meditation that allows the thoughts to come and go through your mind, but you don't "attach" to the thought, just let it pass. Communication with your medical professional is key! Blessed are the cracked for they let in the light!
Avatar f tn For a case as bad as his, usually medication is used to ease the anxiety and then therapy is used to help solve the type of thinking that caused it, but there's never a guarantee anything will work and medication can be problematic as well. The only thing anyone can offer you is to get him to keep trying knowing it may lead to a lot of failure but is also the only way to success.
Avatar m tn Ok, I have been recently depressed about various things in my life for the last year or more. Not suicidal or anything but not satisfied with my life. Anyways I recently decided to try a pot brownie and totally flipped out. I had full on panic attack for probably an hour and thought I was going to die. I had been thinking about the last year or so and was wondering what I was doing in my life and all of a sudden my heart rate skyrocketed and I was in a panic.

Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with an Anxiety Disorder. I have been on four different medications; the first one was Lexapro, which made me extremely tired, then Cymbalta which made me extremely paranoid, a generic version of Zoloft, I can't remember the name which I gained 15 to 20 pounds before I realized it was the medicine, and the latest one is fluoxetine(? generic Prozac) which doesn't appear to be helping, I'm still anxious (crabby) so I went off that one as well.

Avatar n tn Whether you have generalized anxiety or social anxiety or garden variety anxiety can only be diagnosed by a doctor.........and at the young age of 13, (even tho it's obvious you are mature for your age) your hormones are kicking into high gear and that can sometimes bring on anxiety. I would urge you to talk to your parents about these feelings and I believe a talk with your doctor is in order. You do not have to feel this way.
Avatar m tn I've developed an anxiety disorder, from a big panic attack about a year ago on weed. I never had any anxiety before this and am starting counseling tomorrow at my school. You think there's a chance I can recover from this without any medication? I have been getting lots of head shaking/nervousness/edgyness in social situations. Thanks.
1100992 tn?1262357216 Now it seems atypical antipsychotics are being prescribed, not only for psychosis, but as first-line treatment for bipolar disorder AND as adjunctive treatment for depression and anxiety. Right now I think they may be overprescribed. But - I do think they have a place in the treatment of bipolar disorder, and many people get significant relief. I think it's a matter of weighing risks and benefits. The last research I saw put the movement disorder risk at around 5 percent.
Avatar f tn I suspect your son is suffering from GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) or SAD (Separation Anxiety Disorder or perhaps - a combination of both. Avatar n tn I took it for Generalized Anxiety disorder, my mom still takes it for full blown panic attack disorder and both of us know it may help you fall asleep but it won't necessarily help you get quality sleep. Have you tried any alternatives? I understand by the way, I have depression, anxiety, PTSD, all kinds of fun stuff!

Avatar n tn There is a difference between separation anxiety disorder and separation anxiety (I suspect you daughter suffers from the latter which is not nearly as severe as the former). I expect she might need some help adjusting to school and you should be able to find some ideas from googling one or all of the above phrases. In addition, there are many books that can be purchased on-line or in a bookstore or borrowed from your public library on anxiety issues.

15043259 tn?1438079981 First line treatment is cognitive behavioural therapy for OCD or panic disorder, and metacognitive therapy for GAD and social anxiety disorder. If medications are to be used, it would be SSRI or SNRI, and in some cases a small dose of atypical antipsychotics. Benzos are avoided in the treatment of anxiety disorders (they are almost only used for situational anxiety like stage fright or fear of flying).
