Common Questions and Answers about Anxiety and depression genetic

anxiety

Avatar f tn I have been struggling with anxiety for a number of years and over the past few years it’s been a combination of anxiety and depression. To make a VERY long story short, I struggle with health anxiety pretty bad! It started with heart flutters/palpitations that I was obsessed with and now it’s my blood pressure! As soon as I see a BP cuff my anxiety skyrockets and of course my reading is high. I am already on medication and now my doctor wants to increase the dosage.
Avatar f tn Feel nervous going to the doctor for the first time tomorrow to discuss my depression and anxiety issues.
377493 tn?1356502149 once you have an extreme anxiety condition, does the medication typically even things out so that you can stop, or does this condition typically stay with you. Also, is there any sort of genetic link with anxiety? My mother and one of her sisters also have suffered from anxiety and panic attacks most of their adult life. I know so little about this and appreciate any and all responses and information. Thanks so much in advance.
6531549 tn?1382153290 My moms side of the family and my dads have struggled with severe anxiety and depression and it led to my dads addiction to alcohol, so I've come to believe that it's genetic.
6726276 tn?1421126668 In my family, several of us have been diagnosed with depression. A few are Bipolar, most are like me, major depression with anxiety. And a couple I would venture to say have depression/anxiety and self medicate with alcohol.. "Functional alcoholics" I guess would be the term...
7606649 tn?1392686521 My mom suffered from depression and I got it. Neither of my parents have anxiety or are bipolar, so don't know who I got those from. Its something I worry about that though. Dad has no mental illnesses.
Avatar m tn s went by and both my sister and I were plagued with panic, anxiety and depression, then the doors started to open, Mom, her brother, grandma (moms mom) aunts. So I guess we joined the rank's of many before us. I do keep an eye on my daughter (she's 29) , so far so good.

973741 tn?1342342773 He had your typical ear infections that he was treated for but nothing substantial. Not really out of the ordinary for little ones in terms of antibiotic usage and the only time he took steroids was in elementary school when he got a horrible skin rash all over his face. He only took them for two days as he had a full reckoning with his tourette's when on it and it's on the list of drugs not to use. They believe from his genetic testing that this is genetic.
Avatar f tn What it does indicate is that a depressed parent or parents are likely to teach a young child depressive behaviour and interaction with people and society. This depression is not genetic at all. It is reactive, known today as environmental in that it is caused by things within one's environment and not within one's genes. It is time to stop repeating this old wives tale and stick to scientifiacally proven facts as it is untrue and has no basis in fact.
Avatar m tn i suffering from genetic cyclic depression i got 4 attack still now each attack of 3 months to 18 months. attack comes every 3 to 5 years of period.

407872 tn?1205115897 More than likely the tachycardia is caused by the anxiety/panic which causes more panic, and it hence is the cycle. If it makes you feel any better, here is the way I look at it. (If the doctor does say you have clean tests and EKG like you said). a.) If this is something that happens frequently, then it would definately show up on the EKG, it could not hide itself. b.
Avatar f tn or is it EBSTEIN Barr Virus Stage 3 in our liver or thyroid releasing toxins that our body can't clear? I'm looking into this. There's really no test and lots of doctors don't know how to treat it. PATM is related to toxins from either a virus, mold, bacteria, parasite ect and negative thoughts probably feed it. Methylation pathways could be involved. i'm doing genetic testing. Homocysteine should be under 7.
968908 tn?1274871115 When you say chemical imbalance, the question is, what disorder are you talking about? They're not all the same. As for anxiety and depression, there is no evidence of a chemical imbalance in anyone. This idea was started by the pharmaceutical industry to sell their antidepressants, but no study has ever found that somebody with depression or anxiety has any more or less serotonin or norepinephrine or glutamate than anyone else.
Avatar f tn Since me and my two brothers all have issues with anxiety and depression, I wondered if it was genetic? I have a different mother than my brothers but our problems with anxiety are similar. My dad said he didn't have anxiety issues until after the war. This is why I wonder if its Agent Orange related. Both my brothers were born in the 70's and my oldest brother has the worst anxiety of all three of us. I was born early 80's and mine comes and goes.
Avatar f tn cortical spreading depression or sub-cortical spreading depression, temporary dysfunction in the brain stem, and due to these processes, subsequent blood vessels constriction and dilatation...
4481194 tn?1355334538 We psychologically tested and interviewed 41 adults and 7 children with EDS. Anxiety, depression, anger, and interpersonal concerns were significantly elevated, varying from one-quarter to one-third of patients; over 70% had a history of some mental health care use.** Psychological difficulties appear to result from chronic pain and disability, ostracism or avoidance of relationships and social activities, sexual difficulties and reproductive concerns, and frustration with the medical system.
363243 tn?1331033850 I have PCOS, Hashimotos, Pituitary Tumor, Type 2 Diabetes and Depression/Anxiety. Avatar f tn I am suffering from depression but I have Long Qt and am obese , diabetic and have svt's my GP has been unable to find any medication that is suitable - do you have any suggestions?
Avatar f tn My son is 22 and has suffered for years from depression, anxiety, poor concentration, no motivation and ANGER AND RAGE. He has been diagnosed with ADHD, mood disorder, bipolar, borderline personality disorder. He has been on many SSRIs, lithium, ADHD meds (which made anger much worse), anti convulsant meds, atypical anti psychotic meds all to no avail. His mood swings and depression continue. None of the doctors he has seen over the years have ever mentioned thyroid testing.
Avatar m tn Cymbalta helps and my doctor is monitoring my mood swings closely. But I need something to boost my energy and go through times of anxiety better. Is it safe to take B12 shots without asking the doctor first? Obvious answer would be No. But do you have other thoughts? I mean, will it have any side effects with Cymbalta? Thanks very much in advance.
Avatar n tn if my dad had manic depression and he had 8 brothers and sister and they is only one of them alive because they tuck their own life and my dad also tuck is own life . and i feel down most times nd get angry over nothink and just keep getting this feeling of just wanting to cry all the time nd feel angry with my self because i dnt no why i feel like this .
Avatar m tn I mentiond Effexor because it is an anti D whcih deals with both depression and anxiety and I know it works for many. Not everyone, but it seems to be the most talked about med which indicates it must also be the most prescribed drug, particularly as it is not new and doesn't have the media hype to promote. Docs fall back on it after trying all the latest ones usually. I too have chronic pain and it just niggles away all day despite meds for that.
Avatar n tn Some kids will seem to be destroyed by it - and have problems with depression, and anxiety. another one may become very angry and put up a wall and another may completely overcome it and lead a normal healthy life. Why is that? I think it is all temperment - or the ability to cope based on your personality type.
Avatar n tn Due to my age (36), my OB recommends getting genetic testing and especially the amniocentesis. I'm very worried about the invasive nature of the test. I have two healthy children and never did these test before. Anyone else have anxiety over this? What was your experience with the test?
Avatar n tn ve had anxiety and depression since i was like 13 or 14 and was diagnosed with manic depression over a year ago... so I know how you feel. Hope everything works out!
Avatar n tn I have a family history of anxiety and depression and have, during times of extreme stress in the past, had similar symptoms that have resolved once the stress subsided. I started the birth control implant, Implanon, a few months ago and have had no issues but lately, with comparatively minor financial and emotional stress, have had a feeling of fear or dread. Sometimes it isn't strong but with small issues or problems it feels over whelming and almost like I can't breathe.
