Antihistamine vasoconstrictor eye drops

Common Questions and Answers about Antihistamine vasoconstrictor eye drops

antihistamine

Avatar m tn It is true that prolonged use of vasoconstrictor drops such as Opcon-A can cause rebound redness; these drops just shrink the blood vessels, which then re-dilate once the effect has worn off. I would stop the Opcon-A, and just use artificial tears (Refresh, Optive, Systane) until you are able to see the ophthalmologist.
Avatar m tn The doctors on this forum claim that vasoconstrictor overuse cannot cause permanent damage, yet the drug cuts off blood flow to certain parts of the eye. Does this mean that cutting off blood flow to certain parts of the eye cannot cause permanent damage?
Avatar n tn Yes! That's why some illegal drug users place the chemicals in their eyes...it apparently hits the system faster. I have full empathy for you...I too suffer from many allergies...and I have tried every product out there to relieve the symptoms...and they all knock me out...even at "baby doses"...which do nothing to relieve the symptoms at that low of a level. Can't use eye drops...or even distilled water in my eyes, as this burns the heck out of them. Good luck.
Avatar m tn ve read about were using the vasoconstrictor for up to a year and over before stopping, and they were told to expect rebound to last for weeks or months... am I really in the same position, having used these eye drops for only one month, or can I expect a faster recovery? (Basically, I'd like to know if there's some hope in the near future, and regardless have some gauge as to what I should be expecting.) Thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn If I stop using the drops will the redness eventually go away? I have noticed red veins in my eyes and my eye doctor said that they are probably from overuse of the vasoconstrictor eyedrops. I want to stop using them but hate having red eyes. I do notice though that the more I use them, the redder my eyes get and the more my eyes "crave" the eyedrops. Any recommendations would be much appreciated!
Avatar n tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Drops or creams work best locally, but there could be minimal absorption, which could be very minimal for therapy. But it could trigger an allergic response. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
17644146 tn?1458782868 I contacted the company and asked them if their Clear Eyes Pure Relief Multi Symptom Preservative Free eye drops had antihistamine (which I cannot take). There answer was "4/4/2017 "We like to advise you that the product contains the following ingredients phenylephrine hydrochloride, glycerin, hypromellose, citric acid, purified water, sodium chloride, and sodium citrate. We have no indication of whether or not the product contains antihistamine.
Avatar n tn When you go and see your eye doctor for your next eye examination, I would ask your eye doctor if he or she could recommend some antihistamine drops for allergic eyes. Someone in my family has this issue too and her eye doctor who is an ophthalmologist recommended a certain product to her, in fact I believe her ophthalmologist who is my eye doctor too, gave her some eye drop samples to try and they worked. They worked so well that she bought more from a pharmacy. Good luck to you.
Avatar f tn I acccidentally slept in my extended-wear contacts and, during the night, had some allergy issues. Not realizing my contacts were in my eyes, I used antihistamine eye drops. This morning, one of my contact lenses is not on my iris--it feels like it's stuck way back under my eyelid, but I cannot dislodge it or see any evidence that it is still in my eye. Is it possible that the antihistamine drops dissolved or ate the contact?
Avatar m tn I'm referring to eye bright being used directly on the eye. There are commercial eye drops that contain it such "Similasan Allergy Eye Relief " or "eyebright drops wisdom of the ages" I've tried some antihistamine eyedrops such as Zaditor but they irritate my eyes.
Avatar n tn Hey all! Please help me out! I have problems with my eyes for about four months now. The persisting symptoms are photophobia and painful eyes. When i wake up, my right eye is painful and pink. Pink goes away fast but the pain generally remains (sometimes all day). I take gel lubricant and artificial tears, antihistamine + mast stabiliser eye drops; i've taken care for my matress, pillows and other »risk« material. (to cope with my allergy to mites).
Avatar f tn Are there any special precautions I should take when choosing eye drops? there was a post somewhere about this but I can't find it - something about being alcohol free.
535882 tn?1396576685 , taking an antihistamine, plus eye drops. allergy, eye drops, plus doing saline nose rinse. ice pack, eyes also itch a little. any suggestion?
Avatar n tn Being fair-skinned with blue eyes, I've always had an issue with redness, but have been able to control it with Bausch & Lomb Opcon eye drops. However, a couple of years ago it got to the point where that wasn't working any more, so I went to an ophthalmologist in Orlando who examined me and said there was nothing wrong.
Avatar m tn My Doctor suggested a decongestant which helps a lot as well as o-t-c antihistamine eye drops which used along with a preservative eye drop to add moisture back in helps a lot. Maybe your doctor will let you try something like GenTeal eye drops to help moisturize them and see if that helps alone .. the decongestant can tend to dry eyes, too.
Avatar n tn I have read that prescription drops such as Lotemax can help eye redness and inflammation. Will these drops help me in my situatuation? I have an apt. with an eye doctor this upcoming tuesday, should I ask him about Lotemax? Also, is it possible my eyes can be like this permanently? Is it possible that there is no treatment for my condition and that my eyes will not be able to return to normal?
Avatar m tn 2 days ago i went for an eye test. pupil dilation drops were administered. 10 hrs later i developed swelling around the eyes, and severe irritation of the area including itching . i think it is an allergy.i was prescribed cetgel one tablet a day as an antihistamine and flupred eyedrops one drop twice a day for one day only.my face still looks out of a horror film with the swelling and the irritation/itching continuing unabated.

Avatar n tn I have already flushed my eye with water and am using Zaditor antihistamine eye drops by recommendation of my pharmacist. Also tried Visine. My eye is still red, but not painful. I do not have blurring of vision or watery eyes, just redness. Is there anything else I can do to remove the redness?
Avatar n tn My eyes also begin burning in the evenings I took the eye drops for pink eye and made sure to change out all makeup and through away the contaminated contacts. I don't know if the pink eye has anything to do with my current problems or if it is just a coincidence. Can pink eye result in these problems? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Avatar f tn There are a lot of allergens around due to the mild winter in many parts of the US, and I have been having symptoms like yours (one eye much worse than the other). The doc gave me some antihistamine eye drops that have totally cured this problem.
Avatar n tn ve tried changing contacts and solution. Drops. Eye washes. Antihistamine drops and still it happens. Happened yesterday after about 5 hours of wearing contacts. The redness goes all the way down to the iris just on the top third of my eye. You can't see it unless I roll my eye downward and pull up my eyelid. The right eye is fine but once it also turned red but that is extremely rare. It usually does not hurt or tear. This time there was a very small ache.
Avatar n tn Avoid touching the unaffected eye and refrain from sharing pillows, wash cloths, eye drops, or eye makeup with others. You can also get culture and sensitivity studies to identify infectious organisms. If it is bacterial conjunctivitis, then antibiotics may be needed. If the symptoms persist then pls consult an eye specialist. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted if you have any additional queries.
Avatar f tn I used Gentamycin eye drops and hydrocortisone cream on the skin area which is about 1 inch or so under my eye. The swelling is not as bad as yesterday. I had the Gentamycin eye drops from after my surgery. This seems to reoccur and I don't know if allergies play a role or not. Also started taking an antihistamine.
