666921 tn?1254990618 I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it
1415174 tn?1453243103 I had my annual physical and I am 50 and never had low thyroid. It was up from 2.2 to 3.2 for some reason. Can you get older age onset low thyroid at my age. I have no other symtoms. No weight gain, tired but I take a strong antihistamine daily (side effect is fatigue) so before the antihistamine I was less tired. The doctor examined my thyroid and I don't have any lumps or abnormaliites. I had a CT scan of the throat about 6 months ago and that was normal.
Avatar m tn My Thyroid has taken on an Itch Allergy now which goes if I put antihistamine cream on my neck where my thyroid is. I also take liquid antihistamine which helps with my throat. I do wonder if there is a correlation between Rapeseed and all these allergies. Rapeseed is grown all year round so for those who suffer all year round is it possible the link is Rapeseed?
Avatar f tn That really made me think a lot about my condition. In case it is something related to water retention (I have hashimotos and take the thyroid hormone) or anything related to puffiness despite me not being overweight, is there any medicine for that or could that be an obstruction for any future eye surgery?
Avatar f tn not life or death type allergies, but sneezing, itchy nose and eyes, headaches. I take a one a day antihistamine to deal with it. .. but it says on the box not to take if pregnant. Im only 7 weeks, and have stopped taking them... but my allergies are horrible at the moment. All the sneezing is not helping with my morning sickness. During my last pregancey my symptoms actually went away but not this time... my question is can i take my antihistamine?
1670226 tn?1334252274 Are you on thyroid (or anti-thyroid) med? Most/many OTC meds say not to take if you take a prescription medication. You should probably talk to your doctor to find out what's recommended. Sorry, but we're not doctors and not knowing you or your exact situation, we really can't recommend anything.
Avatar n tn t something else causing it and receive treatment if needed. You might want to try an antihistamine like Sudafed to see if it stops the problem. But be aware if your work requires random drug tests an antihistamine can cause you to fail it, so make sure you let the tester know you are taking it. I Hope This Helps Good Luck.
Avatar n tn It can be even easier than that. You could alway ask your doc to try free samples of Nasal Sprays for rhinitis, sinusitis. If it works than you know what it is. Then you need to figure out why it happens like if it is allergy or sinusitis and treat it more specifically if you want to. Once way to rule in allergy is antihistamine like Benedryl. If you take an antihistamine and it stops it's more likely rhinitis.
Avatar f tn The antihistamines should be fine but you likely need to be on thyroid medication to bring the levels back to normal range for the Hypothyroidism (high TSH and normal T3/T4 is called subclinical hypothyroidism - but often this needs treatment).
Avatar m tn Using the EAE mouse model for multiple sclerosis (MS), the inventors have shown that the disease course and severity can be ameliorated with daily administration of antihistamine. This approach has the potential for treating MS with less side-effects and more convenient dosing than current therapeutic interventions. Stage of Research EAE mice treated daily with anti-histamine receptor 1 have decreased disease severity and delayed onset of the disease compared to controls.
Avatar f tn You can apply an anti-itch cream or lotion to the affected area. Oral antihistamine, such as Benadryl can also be used. You should take a comfortably cool bath and wear smooth-textured cotton clothing. Covering the affected area with bandages and dressings can help protect the skin and prevent scratching. You should choose mild soaps without dyes or perfumes and use a mild, unscented laundry detergent when washing clothes, towels and bedding.
Avatar n tn go for a thyroid test as swelling of eyes might be a symptom of that...
Avatar n tn They tried to give a third before I said enough, obviously it wasn’t working. I took Benadryl- nothing. I took another antihistamine and it helped with the symptoms but it didn't cure me. I went to an allergy dr and he said wasn't the fish, was already out of my system and it would be difficult and expensive to pinpoint what I was allergic to. I was like this for over 1 year. I read a lot online to find a connection between something.
Avatar n tn What kind were you taking?
Avatar n tn I have just seen a dermatologist who changed my antihistamine presciption, and who told me the hives could be linked to my thyroid condition and has taken blood to test for C3, C4, haemoglobins, electrophoresis, full blood count and ESR. Can you explain the link please between hypothyroid and allergic reactions? Also, is there anything I can do myself to help matters as it's very depressing.
Avatar m tn I used to take antihistamine everyday for 5 years as living without them at the time was impossible. Untill one day, when i decided i will not take anymore, mainly to see how my body would react after days of being attacked by itself with no medication. Ironically, after a solid week of torture and no sleep, the itching started to slowly subside. It has since reduced to about 50% of what it was but it is still here and still making life very uncomfortable.
Avatar f tn I wear glasses and I take thyroid medication and an antihistamine daily. I have not changed any facial cleansing or makeup products. I asked my endocrinologist and he said to see an eye doctor. I see an Optometrist for my yearly eye exam. Is that who I should see for this or should I see my PCP or a dermatologist since the skin of my lids seems to also be affected?
Avatar n tn You can apply an anti-itch cream or lotion to the affected area. Oral antihistamine, such as Benadryl can also be used. Avatar f tn Skin conditions like psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and hives, internal diseases like liver and kidney disorders, diabetes, iron deficiency anemia, irritation and allergic reactions to chemicals, wool, soaps, cosmetics and certain foods can cause itchy skin. One strong possibility is PCOS and thyroid disease for your wife’s symptoms. You can apply an anti-itch cream or lotion to the affected area. Oral antihistamine, such as Benadryl can also be used.

Avatar m tn It could be any number of things, the most likely being post-nasal drip due to sinus infection, a cold, virus, allergies etc... Trying giving him an antihistamine and see if that helps. Or an age-appropriate child's cold medicine. The air could be dry and irritating this throat. Try having him suck on children's throat lozenges, or drink something when it happens.
Avatar m tn I have read that taking Doxylamine (Unisom) lowers thyroid hormone output. Has anyone had any experience with this? I take Unisom regularly as it seems to work the best out of all the other sleep aids.
Avatar n tn Hello, Palmar itch can be due to allergy, contact dermatitis, eczema, pompholyx or systemic causes like thyroid or liver diseases. Wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites. You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps. For mild-moderate symptoms a weak steroid may be used (e.g.
