Common Questions and Answers about Antihistamine reduce swelling

antihistamine

Avatar f tn I was prescribed Opatanol to reduce some swelling in my eyes (red veins appearing). Before I have had staph infections treated with an antibiotic. However, recent cultures have revealed just one staph epidermis. I have always had problems with some crusts appearing on eyelashes ( I suppose it is a mild case of blephartitis). I just wonder if this swelling is due to irritants or staph or blephartitis. I also have a mass of intolerable floaters in my eyes.
Avatar m tn 5 inches around injection and itchy! Been itchy ever since swelling started to reduce. Antihistamine helps with the itch. May not want another Tetanus shot after this one. Once the swelling came down I was able to gain more movement of my arm. I have had allergic reactions to wasp stings and it never swelled up like this. Even allergy testing got all red and swollen, but not nearly comparable to the swelling of the Tetanus shot.
Avatar m tn thanks for the reply, yes i googled that before messaging and the only one it shows is Seldane, because of the problem with this antihistamine and that it had been taking off the market (not a newer antihistamine), i wanted to know of any other antihistamines? are there no others for enlarged prostate sufferers? 2nd question is after stopping the intake of antihistamine that effect the prostate, woiuld these be a short term effect and the prostate goes back to how it was?
Avatar m tn Treatment may not be needed if the hives are mild because they often disappear on their own. To reduce itching and swelling, over-the-counter antihistamine medications may help. Avoid hot baths or showers and avoid irritating the area with tight-fitting clothing. If it persists, have this checked by your doctor for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn The first set of antihistamines had no affect (cetirizine hydrochloride) so I was put on another set (fexofenadine) which seems to have greatly reduce the swelling and rash. I now only have itching on my legs, which does not swell up unless I forget and itch it. Thanks for your help.
539780 tn?1213943976 The benedryl 2% cream works great too right after you clean it the day you are stung. But days later the hot water seems to help me the most. As hot as you can comfortable handle it. Not scolding just hot since you need to stay under it for 1--15 minutes. So not too hot.
Avatar m tn They do not cure eczema, but are highly effective in controlling or suppressing symptoms in most cases. Antihistamine, like Cetrizine may reduce the itch during a flare up of eczema. Unfortunately, both the conditions have a history of recurring, so you will have to treat it each time it occurs. ref:http://www.myonlinewellness.com/topic/adam1000869 ref:http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar f tn Truthfully, I do not what drugs I can take since I can have either no reaction, hives or swelling. Has anyone else had a problem like this? Any suggestions on how to deal with my allergies? I have many allergies but things have been fairly bearable until pollen season. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Anti-itch drugs, often antihistamine, may reduce the itch during a flare up of eczema, and the reduced scratching in turn reduces damage and irritation to the skin. For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone or desonide), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide). Moisturizing is one of the most important self-care treatments for sufferers of eczema.
Avatar n tn Veramystâ„¢ (fluticasone furoate) is a nasal inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) and, strictly speaking, not an antihistamine. As an anti-inflammatory medicine, however, has the potential to reduce histamine mediated inflammation, in a non-specific fashion. That it is not an antihistamine is evident by the very many studies of combination therapy, the combination of fluticasone with an histamine 2 (H2) blocker non-sedating antihistamine.

Avatar n tn Can allergies cause all of this lymph node swelling? Or is this a side effect from my medicines? Or is this swelling (especially behind my ear) something to be concerned about?
Avatar n tn To Dermatology, I had a regular facial two days ago and had informed the esthetician I have very dry skin. She cleansed my face with two or more so products and then applied an "alpha exfoliation" cream on my face. She told me I will feel some tingling or itching which is normal. But after the facial, my cheeks started feeling very uncomfortable. My cheeks were burning. So after I paid for my facial I went to the restroom to take a look in the mirror.

3791484 tn?1348234566 For chronic or especially troublesome outbreaks of hives, your doctor will probably order a course of prescription antihistamines. Treatment with oral corticosteroids will sometimes reduce swelling when antihistamines don't work, but they are usually reserved for more severe cases. If you have the subsurface swelling of angioedema, you may require hospitalization.
Avatar n tn The first step is to determine if you really need as much antihistamine as you are currently taking and, if feasible, reduce the dose. At that point, you may have to use topical moisturizing lotions.
Avatar n tn Hi, This seems to be an outbreak of hives.Hives is an allergic skin reaction causing localized redness, swelling, and itching.Hives is a reaction of the body's immune system that causes areas of the skin to swell, itch, and become reddened (wheals). When the reaction is limited to small areas of the skin, it is called "urticaria." A wide variety of substances may cause hives in sensitive people, including foods, drugs, and insect bites or stings.
