1418633 tn?1314546745 Bill is right - Atarax/Vistaril/Hyrdroxyzine works wonders with the itching, but you need a prescription for it. Another over the counter med is Benadryl - readily available over here but not sure in India. In another thread some of us had commented on applying ice packs/cool towels which help in a pinch. Hope is subsides soon because it's really bothersome.
Avatar n tn Direct clinical examination and complete medical history are important in reaching a diagnosis. Over-the-counter antihistamine may also help with the itching, especially if taken at night. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn My daughter is suffering from eczema from the time she was 2 months old. Her Ped prescribed antihistamine for itching. We are concerned about the side effects. She does not have any immune system related issues. Her itching increases during the night time and it has been severe since the past 2-3 weeks. Only now we started giving her antihistamine and are concerned about the side effects. Is there any other way to stop her itching.
Avatar f tn It is very common to be itchy while using any opiates. Any antihistamine should help you and if you have specific areas, a over the counter topical cream (hydrocortisone) will help too.

Avatar n tn Use topical steroid ointments or oral antihistamines to relieve itching if needed. Apply a 1 percent hydrocortisone ointment, which is available over the counter, if the itching is significant. An antihistamine such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl), also available over the counter, may also help. Seek immediate medical attention if the sting gets infected or if the rash doesn't subside or progresses. ref:http://www.myonlinewellness.

Avatar f tn It only itches severely and gets really disrupting after I lie down on the bed, or after I have slept for a few hours. I would then start itching all over. The itch would subside when I fall back asleep again. I also itch during the day. Face, eyes, legs, scalp. I used to think it's eczema, but seems like its not because there aren't any rashes. It's just itch, full force! I'm breaking down, please help!!! Why does it itch so much at night?!
478342 tn?1241369352 I would walk to school during the winter and the longer I walked and the more my body got heated up I would start itching uncontrollably all over my body including my face. Then there would be little bumps over me that I guess are hives. This happens every winter in to the beginning of Spring. I can't workout because I can't get hot thats when I start itching and my skin gets flushed red. I also do not sweat and I even get the itching in my sleep when I dream about something strenous.
5045042 tn?1365890100 If you have a rash, you can use a strong prescription steroid cream. If you are itching, you can use a stronger prescription antihistamine. I had severe itching and bad rash issues. I itched all over and the rash was everywhere. Benadryl and over the counter hydrocortisone creams did absolutely nothing. My dermatologist prescribed Hydroxyzine 50 mg every 6 hours as needed. (I needed it every 6 hours for several months.

Avatar n tn Over-the-counter antihistamine or calamine lotion may provide relief but if it persists, have this evaluated further for proper management. Direct clinical examination is important.
Avatar m tn Our rescue male Westie had a almost funny was to scratch his anal (area) itch. He would sit on the rough finish carpet and spin around, not drag. I too though it was a sac problem, but was not. His annual physical came to his aid. The vet raised his tail (the Westie is characterized by holding its short tail in a vertical) and pointed to a red rash area just at the base of his tail.
Avatar f tn hi I have really bad allergies too and my doc told me I can take piraton safely! some brands are safe to take so speak to your GP for fhe safest option!!
Avatar m tn So get an examination done by a surgeon to confirm the diagnosis.Till that time, try an over-the-counter (OTC) cream or ointment containing hydrocortisone (Cortaid, Preparation H),but it is to be applied sparingly to the affected area. A protective ointment that contains zinc oxide (Desitin, Balmex) also may help. If your symptoms are worse at night, take an antihistamine like benadryl to reduce itching until topical treatments take effect. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn s how I felt. You probably need some help like I did. Cortisone cream - over the counter and a antihistamine. That's how I felt. I was going crazy.......
535882 tn?1396576685 I would try lubrication with over the counter artificial tears for symptomatic relief of the itching and discomfort (even better if you are able to put the tears in cold by storing them in the fridge) Wash your hands so you don't spread the rash to other family members!
Avatar n tn Peeling skin on the feet or hands may be due to excessive perspiration and inadequate evaporation, skin infections, extremely dry skin, or as a side effect of certain medications. Over-the-counter antihistamine medications may provide relief with the itching. Moisturizing may also help. But I would recommend that you have this evaluated further by your dermatologist for proper management and to rule out infection. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Did you mean to reply to me? Or did you mistake me for the asker? I'm a little confused- I was just explaining my own experiences with rashes that occasionally reach the genital area.
4798753 tn?1359322303 I was on triple med treatment with Incivek, Interferon, Ribavirin. I had a bad rash and itching starting at about week 10. The over the counter dreams and antihistamines were useless, completely useless. They did nothing. Eventually, I got on precription medications that worked. I used: Fluocinonide ointment on my body. Clobetesol solution on my scalp. Hydrocort Valerate on my face. Oral Hydroxyzine 50 mg every 6 hours for the rash and itching. That combination worked for me.

Avatar f tn Is it possible to become addicted to over the counter medications? My 75 year old mother recently moved to my town so that I could help her financially, etc. I have become very concerned about the amount of excederine, prilosec, nasal spray, aleve, and other antacid medicines that she takes. She has a history of bleeding ulcers, she smokes about 2 packs of cigarettes a week, high blood pressure, and other ailments of old age. I didn't realize that she was taking so much of this medicine.
Avatar m tn Treatment may not be needed if the hives are mild because they often disappear on their own. To reduce itching and swelling, over-the-counter antihistamine medications may help. Avoid hot baths or showers and avoid irritating the area with tight-fitting clothing. If it persists, have this checked by your doctor for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Hi, You could use over-the-counter antihistamine for the rash and itching at night. Cool compresses may also help. Contact dermatitis may resolve after a few days especially if the offending substance is discontinued. If it persists, it would still be best to have this seen by your doctor. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn If you have history of allergic reaction, have this checked by your doctor or have an allergic testing done. Over-the-counter antihistamine medications may help provide relief. Take care and do keep us posted.
