antihistamine in nyquil

I would be careful taking Advil PM as it has an antihistamine in it and might make RLS worse. I mistakenly took Nyquil with an antihistamine in it and had the shakes real bad. So be cautious..

help i need sleep on day 8. i toss and turn worse now than in the first few days of w/ds.. could this be paws? does anyone have any ideas how to sleep. took melatonia and nyquil last night.

Diphenhydramine (generic Benadryl) is the "sleep" ingredient in Tylenol PM. I suspect it is also in NyQuil or any other OTC that advertises sleep help. It is an antihistamine. Quix pointed out recently that it can cause excitement and may make RLS worse.

Knowing that Flu like symptoms were a side effect, I did get a Flu shot in August, prior to tx. Today, right now, I really feel like I am fighting off a cold or Flu. Can I take something like Nyquil but without alcohol??? Thanks. Just took the day off sick yesterday, and don't want to be out tomorrow.

Do you still experience nasal congestion or difficulty in breathing? Antihistamine medication or decongestants may help provide relief. It is important that you rest and drink plenty of fluids and ascorbic acid. If it persists, it is best that you have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation.

I'm not real sure about this problem. I know there is alcohol in nyquil, but I'm pretty sure you've just become dependant on a sleep aid. Have you even tried to sleep without it some nites? I'm sure it will be hard at first and may take a while to fall asleep but after a few days or so, you should be fine. Sorry, I just don't know what to say about this. Someone else will be on in the AM and maybe can help.

I have never in my life used NyQuil or Alkazelter, so I can't answer for those, but you are not supposed to take ibuprofen while pregnant. Since you were/are so early it should be just fine. With my daughter I took it a few times before I found out and she is a happy healthy almost 4 year old. Just make sure not to take anymore. You can however use Tylenol.

I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it

I do also have a slight ear ache on both sides. I did have diabetes in the past but was able to get off medication because of diet and exercise but have gained a lot of the weight back.

My sister gave my 5 month old Nyquil because she wouldn't stop crying! I am beyond pissed! I asked her why she was sleeping so much and she said because she kept her up but she threw up a little red stuff and then she admitted. I've been giving her water every chance she'll take it but she's been asleep for about 2 hrs. She's breathing and everything but are their any serious side affects to it?

I really dislike getting sick on the weekend because I can't call the DR. Can I safely take nyquil? There is liver warning on back but that's also on tylenol. Hoping to get some help with sleeping and fight this cold. Liver stage 1-2 and not yet on triple treatment. I haven't taken any meds at all today, if that matters. Thanks everyone!

Noooooooo. Since nyquil has a sleep aid in it its not safe for your baby. The Dr told me to take Robitussin wen I had a cold. If your not sure call the Dr and ask, there's websites also tht show what medications are baby safe to take.

that ingredient is the antihistamine in Nyquil at a much larger strength. It made me sleep but severely dried out my mouth, eyes and sinuses. Last night I had a pretty good night with just a half an Ambien....maybe that's ok.

After going to an expert dermatoglist who again stated just take medicine to control the hives - I ended up on Allegra, Claritin and Doxepin. My hives seemed managable mostly at this point but in October 2009 I stopped all antihistmaines to have a food alllergy test just to see if anything turned up there. Nothing did but I noticed my hives really improved after stopping all the antihistamines. Since then I have avoided taking any antihistmaines except for Benadryl.

I feel like I am in my own little world. You know I got 9 pills in my purse but i am not going to take them. I am not sure why I even have them in there. The regular red sudafed without the antihistamine in it and robitussin I was told by my RE are safe. I had terrible head cold moving into my chest just a week before my IVF. Also drink plenty of fluids, orange juice also. Use a humidifier and take two showers a day , 10 min long, helps to loosen the congestion. Best of luck to you!

Nyquil has alcohol in it so i know that was one of the reasons she told me not to take it....and both nyquil and dayquil i believe may have aspirin or something along those lines in them which isnt recommended during pregnancy.

s more dangerous to drink 1 beer every night than it is if you take two Nyquil every night lol....there is less alcohol in two nyquil caps than there is in 1 beer....so your not at all in danger...I would however try the transition from Nyquil to Melatonin like nauty sait....it is safe to take up to 10 mg. of Melatonin every night....and if you have a sleeping problem, 10 mg. of melatonin will knock you right out....good luck Peace and love!
