Avatar n tn Hello, As far as I have understood the query,it seems to be related to phlegm in throat. This may be due to post nasal drip. Post-nasal drip (PND) occurs when excessive mucus is produced by the sinuses. The excess mucus accumulates in the throat or back of the nose. It can be caused by rhinitis, sinusitis, or laryngopharyngeal acid reflux. It can be enhanced or sometimes even caused by allergies. Pls check out with an ENT specialist if you are having chronic rhinitis or sinusitis.

Avatar f tn I have tinnitus and post nasal drip. I notice it mostly when I'm home. When I go on vacation the tinnitus is not noticeable and my post nasal drip eases up. Could the these be caused by allergies? Could they be something I'm allergic to either in my home or environment? I have had allergy testing for foods and air borne pollens, etc. I am allergic to dust mites. Could that be a culprit? I live in a fairly dry environment.
Avatar m tn Background: I'm a 30yr old Indian born male living in London from past 6yrs. I’m a 69kg fit person and I workout a lot (probably 5-6 times a week) with no medical conditions. (Although I’ve had a sinus operation about 15 years ago, not sure if that is relevant). History: Since last 1.5 years (from May/June-2010) I have had hacking cough and skin urticaria (dermatographism). Following were some symptoms I had in July/Aug-2010: - Bad taste early morning.
Avatar m tn I have had post nasal drip and severe sinus problems for many years now. I had an operation to remove a cyst and some polyp's about 5 years ago. This never stopped the post nasal drip, and i have since had ct scans done and it reveals that i once again have polyps. I seem to be getting different story's from every specialist i see, with the most recent one saying that the polyps wouldn't be causing you trouble and there is nothing he can do.
Avatar f tn Yes, the coughing could be part of allergic rhinitis. It could also be due to post nasal drip, possible GERD, infection, medication side effect and even from environmental irritants such as air pollutants. If it persists, have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation. Antihistamine, decongestants and prescription medications may help provide relief. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn If ok with your doctor, have you tried an antihistamine/decongestant at night before bed .. sometimes what you describe may be post nasal drip but I'm not a doctor .. just my immediate thoughts reading your post. The decongestant may help dry things up. A sinus infection can do similar with the drip, too. The drip can also cause asthma-like symtpoms (bronchiospasms) to happen from the irritation. Just some thoughts to ask your doctor. WELCOME to our community!
Avatar f tn I had a cough and congestion for about 3 weeks before the doctor was able to diagnose me with a sinus infection. He gave me 875mg of Amoxicillin-twice a day for 10 days along with ZyrtecD and Mucinex. I finished the antibiotic and one of the others at the same time. Two days later, I was still coughing--post nasal drip. I had finished all the meds so I bought some more Mucinex and started that again. In another 2 days I was still had post nasal drep so I started Claritin.
Avatar n tn Hi, There are several causes of the symptoms you describe that your son is having - this could be secondary to post nasal drip seen in acses of sinusitis, rhinitis and asthma; this could be due to GERD; tonsillitis or rarely - out of habit. Since when is he having these symptoms? Does he have any associated symptoms of cough, breathlessness, wheezing, post nasal drip, fever , etc? Is he on any medications currently? Has a CT scan of his sinuses been done?
Avatar m tn There's a lot of things that could be causing post-nasal drip, so it's hard to give decent advice without examination by doctor. If it's an allergy, the most effective meds, according to research, is pseudofed and singulair. Both work differently, so you could try each, seperately. Your phlegm would be clear or light green probably It could be a sinus infection if your phlegm is yellow or darker green.
Avatar n tn I have mucus retention cysts in both maxillary sinuses too. The problem for me is this insane post nasal drip for already 2 years or more now. Sometimes it´s so difficult to swallow the mucus my neck is sore. I also have sleep apnea. Can these be indications for surgery? I don´t know how big the cysts are, the CT scan wouldn´t say. Thanks. John.
862235 tn?1336060295 It could be sinusitis, if it is accompanied by nasal stuffiness and facial pain or pressure. Post nasal drip could also be due to allergens. These are substances like pollen, dust, animal dander, certain foods, insect venoms and certain medications. Exposure to allergens causes a runny nose with a resultant post nasal drip where secretions from the nose go backward into the throat and irritate. Discuss these options with your consulting doctor.

Avatar m tn I'm a 21 year old male. Four weeks ago, I came down with what seemed to be a cold. I experienced congestion, cough, and laryngitis a day or two after exposure to large amounts of hay and agricultural lime. Taking this into consideration, I'm a bit skeptical as to whether or not it was a cold or just an alergic reaction. The symptoms have drastically decreased.
Avatar n tn I have post nasal drip and also an upset stomach a lot of the time. When my stomach is sick, the only way to help it feel better is to eat. But then that doesn't last too long. Do you think my upset stomach is de to the dripping? What do you think is the best remedy for this? Thank you - This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/206212'>HELP!! Avatar m tn I had post nasal drip for almost 3 weeks. My nose was not runny nor did I feel stuffed up, I now have a mild sore throat no more drip, but phlem and it's clear also the bumps on the back of my tongue appear to be raised on both sides but one side a little more than the other. Does this sound like a sinus infection?
Avatar f tn Does anyone suffer from chronic post nasal drip? If so, what have you found that helps? I have had it for yrs. Yrs ago before my surgery my PCP did a ct scan to check bc i had chronic sinus infections. Everything came back normal. My NS said my surgery may help my sinus problems. It hasnt. Zyrtec, benedryl, OTC sinus meds - nothing helps or relieves it. I vomit a lot and think the PND is the cause of some of it. Terrible gag reflex too.
