Antihistamine for cough

Common Questions and Answers about Antihistamine for cough

antihistamine

Avatar f tn I have had a nagging cough for a long time. It isn't a long cough, just a short one and it seems to bring up a little flem as opposed to a dry cough. It happens perhaps a few times a day. I do have nasal drainage most of the time due to allergies. Is the cought related to that?
Avatar n tn Any of the various forms of albuterol actually do work better than standard cough medicines for non-cough variant asthma. Monitor your symptoms carefully and if things get out of hand, be sure to see your doctor quickly. Feel better and God bless.
Avatar n tn If you use an antihistamine thinking it's an allergy when indeed it's really a heart problem, the antihistamine can make the heart worse, so you must get a diagnoses before you treat..... Licking air is usually Nausea or acid reflux....Post nasal drip normally causes a cough...Good luck & let us know what you find out....
Avatar n tn I have a cough that I have had for five months. Exrays show lungs are fine and my Dr. can find nothing wrong. I cough up phlem that is clear, but a lot of it. I cough until I throw up or gag. Any suggestions as to what it may be.
Avatar f tn A friend of mine was TTC for five years and her husband had low motility. She started taking cough syrup and within 6-12 months, got pregnant and miscarried a few weeks in (in Nov.) & now is 5 weeks pregnant again and everything is looking good. I have been TTC for two years and am wondering if I should try it. Is it safe? I actually took Mucinex for sinus congestion for two days & today I have the egg white, stretchy, CM. That is what made me think of my friends situation. Any ideas?

Avatar m tn For 4-5 years now, I've been having dry, unproductive coughs that last from September all the way to March. Due to the timing of the coughs, I came to the conclusion that it's an allergy of some sort. I've been to doctors and they would all tell me different things and prescribe cough medicine and give me inhalers. They never worked. All I really did was wait until March until it naturally ended.
612551 tn?1450022175 Thanks, that helps and I am no longer giving Wilson the Temaril. I'd like to limit use of steroids anyway, guess my concern reflects the fact it needs to be prescription only. Still, my vet was willing to renew the prescription, when I looked at $27 for 20 pills (that's what I paid for the round he has already gone through, and he looks just fine now) I will see how Bendadryl works - I have one friend who stopped paw licking in a Terrier he has.
Avatar f tn Hi & Welcome....She's already taking an antihistamine (I would not add more).....Temaril-P is a combination drug consisting of antihistamine & a steriod. What I think she needs is LASIX (For the fluid retention). Normally for heart failure, Lasix are prescribed along with the heart meds. and can be given 1-3 times a day depending on the severity of the congestion. Once, the fluid is off her lungs, the cough and congestion will improve greatly.

666921 tn?1254990618 I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it
Avatar n tn How long can i use antihistamine for my daughter aged 7 months to relieve her of the eczema itching.
Avatar m tn I have had a cough for 5 months now. It is not something that keeps me up, but does get worse after physical activities. Sometimes comes with a sore throat, but no other symptoms. Please help......
Avatar n tn sober 20+ years in 12 step program. Take Tussionex for chronic cough, 1 tsp. per day. I don't abuse it by taking more. But, if I don't take it every day I start to feel like I am getting the flu. Is that withdrawal, just the level in my blood is dropping off after 24 hours? Would appreciate anyone's input, especially if you have experience. Thanks and bless you all. One day at a time, because that's all we've got.
Avatar f tn when I cough or sneeze or laugh I tinkle on myself is that normal
Avatar m tn Well, tussionex is part hydrocodone which is a semi-synthetic opioid and part chlorpheniramine which is a type of antihistamine. So some people can be more sensitive to the hydrocodone (vicadin) part of the cough syrup. It is a fairly addictive drug and some people have genetics (an enzyme called cpy 2d6) that increases the duration the hydrocodone is elevated in their blood. This leads to exaggerated effects or feeling of euphora and other symptoms.
Avatar n tn If you look at the label on cough syrup for children, even those typically recommend for age 6 and up (at least the brands I have seen.) When my 2 1/2 year old has a cold with a cough I give him milk slightly warmed with honey in it. I have also given him a teaspoon of honey on it's own. It works extremely well.
Avatar f tn Have had this very irritable, barking cough for over a week, which requires constant lubrication and a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not really coughing up phlegm. My throat also feels very inflamed. I've lost my appetite since aswell. I take lots of vitamin c and antihistamine and have even tried a prentative inhaler.
Avatar m tn I experienced congestion, cough, and laryngitis a day or two after exposure to large amounts of hay and agricultural lime. Taking this into consideration, I'm a bit skeptical as to whether or not it was a cold or just an alergic reaction. The symptoms have drastically decreased. My nose is still half-way stuffy, and I'm still spitting up white phlegm, but it's more of an annoyance now than anything else. Some people I've talked to think that it's post-nasal drip.
Avatar n tn It just concerns me that the cough is hanging around for so long. The cough has been with me for about a week and a half. Other than being a little worn out from not feeling my best, I have been able to go to work and perform my job normally. Thoughts?
Avatar n tn I seem to cough all the time...it seems to be a dry, tickling cough. I cough till I get sick. Can you tell me what I can take to take away the cough. Any over the counter cough meds do not work. Seems like the only thing that helps this cough is codeine medicine or like percocet pain medicine...in which both is hard to get doctor to give prescription for. Can you help with any suggestions on home remedies that i could try? Please help!
Avatar n tn I have not been taking the Hydroco (neighbor thought was a bad idea for me to take it) only taking NightQuil. As for cough drop they only help while I have them. I was just wondering how thing I should let this go on before I call my DR or how long it’s going to last. The pain the back of my head is probably the most painful thing right now and I just not sure what to do about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn But for the ones that need it, it is a safe reliable cough med and i recommend it. Before you ask for it be sure you are coughing alot with chest congestion.
Avatar m tn Exposure to allergens causes a runny nose with a resultant post nasal drip where secretions from the nose go backward into the throat and irritate causing cough. Cough is a protective mechanism by the body as it helps to prevent infections. Discuss these options with your doctor when you happen to meet him next time. In the meantime for relief from your symptoms you could do warm salt gargles and take OTC antihistamines. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar n tn I have COPD, mild. I take an antihistamine at night and nose drops in the AM. I have an emergency inhaler when needed and usually on if I get the flu. Right now I feel like an elephant is on my chest and have a very dry bothersome cough. Is there anything else I can take to stop this???
406036 tn?1216188561 I think you'll be fine here. Generally the docs. don't write a script for cough syrup unless you've got a hacking unproductive one that keeps you from sleep. Otherwise, something like Delsym 12 hour is awesome. There are even lots of Rx cough syrups with diff. opiates in them like with codeine, which is known for it's cough suppressive properties. There are lots of different Tussi formulations too with different meds. in them, some with opiates, some without.
