Avatar n tn This cough syrup combines an anti-histamine (chlorpheniramine) with a codeine-like cough suppressant called hydrocodone. Tussionex stops coughing well, but it carries a risk of potential side effects, including drowsiness, constipation, lightheadedness, and vomiting. The hydrocodone component is also an addictive medication and should be used with caution.
Avatar n tn For OTC cough syrup, I use Delsym (Dextromethorphan polistirex) or Mucinex (Guaifenesin). I've never had a problem with either, and I'd consider myself fairly sensitive to cold medications. When I need the big guns, I get my PCP to prescribe Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone) aka. "Liquid Gold". I love this stuff. It's expensive, hence the name. But you WILL stop coughing, and you WILL sleep!
Avatar f tn Just to let anyone know I found out from the pharmacy today that taking certain OTC cold and flu pills especially the night time versions contain chlorpheniramine or antihistamine.. Which should not be combined with meds like xanax because they both contain an ingredient to make you relax and it can effect your breathing by relaxing you essentially too much...
Avatar m tn Well, tussionex is part hydrocodone which is a semi-synthetic opioid and part chlorpheniramine which is a type of antihistamine. So some people can be more sensitive to the hydrocodone (vicadin) part of the cough syrup. It is a fairly addictive drug and some people have genetics (an enzyme called cpy 2d6) that increases the duration the hydrocodone is elevated in their blood. This leads to exaggerated effects or feeling of euphora and other symptoms.

Avatar n tn I have had a lot of mucus build-up when I wake up in the middle of the night and find it very difficult to return to sleep. I keep trying to swallow what's caught over and over. Also, after having all this stuff draining into my stomach all night it feels upset the next morning. I broke my leg and was given Hydrocodone pills for a few months and guess what zero problems of any kind with nasal drip at night or stomach problems during the day.
Avatar m tn I just changed doctors over the past summer, and like a usual morning, everyday that I wake up to get to school (around 6:30), I always tend to get a runny nose. On weekends, I usually wake up at 9 or 10, and I will not have a problem with runny nose. I live in an apartment where the ceiling is not a flat wall on the top, but instead, if it was hit, some things would fall off. Along with that, I do not have a wooden floor, instead, I have a carpet.
Avatar m tn By mistake I took a single dose of 25 mg chlorpheniramine maleate and also 500 mg paracetamol along with it. I've been having a slight pain in my upper right abdomen ever since. Avatar n tn s also been taking two chlorpheniramine antihistamine pills a day, but things seem to be getting worse if anything. He was on Iams large breed dog food for the first couple years of his life, and when the allergies started, we switched him to lamb and rice to see if it was his food, but that didn't help. We've also tried Benadryl with no results. My vet says that there is not much more we can do, but I've read about the yeast pills, and other medications.

If the symptoms are severe or persistent a clinical examination may be necessary. I sincerely hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn However I do not have a change in diet or environment so what could it be? He gave me hydrocortisone cream 1% and Chlorpheniramine Maleate 4mg. I finished the Chlorpheniramine Maleate 4mg and have some cream left. However I do not see any improvement at all. I have read some people's page saying that it may be bed bugs. Is that possible? If so why do i only get the red patch and boil around the hand areas where I had cat bite and scratches? (The wounds have all healed now.
