antihistamine

Avatar f tn My allergist told me to try Claritin tabs instead of gel caps but I took one after having my allergy shot and I broke out in hives again. Now all the pollen is out and my eyes are really itchy and red and I have a hard time seeing at work. I tried taking Atarax last night to see if that would help more than Benadryl. Big mistake since I woke up broke out in bad hives. I had to wait to get home to take benadryl since I am not 100% certain that Benadryl does not give me hives.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have a15year old son that goes thru bouts of lip swelling, facial swelling and nausea. It seems that stressful situations bring it on but now it is a weekly occurance. Lately the swelling has not been going down. He has seem an allergist, hematolgist, and GI doctor but they are all baffled. The have been treating him for CVS but I do not believe it is since he has the bad swelling. Any thoughts would be great!
666921 tn?1254990618 I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it
Avatar f tn Now it has started happening when I have been out in my yard. Summer is just starting and I have already been to the doctor for swelling, and itching on my right ankle. Can anyone help????
Avatar n tn What kind were you taking?
Avatar f tn ve been having false eyelashes for about a year , but the last time I had them I reacted to them almost immediately- swollen bottom eyelids and red , I saw gp who said i needed them off and gave me an antihistamine, any way since then I have been suffering intermittent swollen bottom eyelids ( mainly my right eye) , it will be ok for maybe a week and then just randomly swell again , if I take an antihistamine quickly the swelling goes down again for maybe a week ?? Any ideas ?
Avatar m tn 5 inches around injection and itchy! Been itchy ever since swelling started to reduce. Antihistamine helps with the itch. May not want another Tetanus shot after this one. Once the swelling came down I was able to gain more movement of my arm. I have had allergic reactions to wasp stings and it never swelled up like this. Even allergy testing got all red and swollen, but not nearly comparable to the swelling of the Tetanus shot.
Avatar f tn m due in 10/9 days and as of this morning woke up with my hands covered in hives, there so itchy and my hands are swallon has any had this or should I see a doc? Had antihistamine and used a rash cream and they seem worse not better.
Avatar f tn Okay, here is my story,I am 28 and I have just been diagnosed with chronic hives and swelling, I am allergic to myself.....FUN! After 8 months of constant hives, lip swelling, eye swelling and finger swelling, i went to an allergist and got prescribed Xyzal. It worked great for the first 2 weeks and i was over joyed to have my life back! But the past few days, some hives have started to come back. I have been taking benadryl along with the xyzal as needed.
568429 tn?1216770861 Hi. Consider starting a daily antihistamine. I'd repeat it on schedule because once it wears off more than likely you will have a reaction then. I can't even take my allergy shots with out antihistamine in me. I take it every day and once extra (twice on shot day) 30 minutes before my shots. With out antihistamine I do have reactions. You might be having more of a reaction than just hives. Sorry to hear this. When I first started my shots it was hard for me too.
Avatar f tn t itchy, but I could feel my sinuses swell a bit along with my tear ducts swelling. I took an antihistamine, which I haven't taken in a long while. The antihistamine alone was okay, but combine it with using my contacts, and my eyes swell. I don't know if it's the saline or contact solution. So, I stopped the meds, and it went away. My contacts alone are fine. No issues. Last week, I took an antihistamine before getting my allergy injection, and I was fine.
Avatar f tn Hello, I agree that it can be due to some trace metals in the tattoo ink which is causing this tattoo to raise and swell up. You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps. For mild-moderate symptoms a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone as dermacort), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide).
Avatar f tn On the 2nd day, I noticed frequent urination and by the 3rd day, the swelling in my body was reduced by about 75%. My right foot is still swelling, but not as bad as usual at this time of the year. Anyone know which of these meds is causing the reduction of fluid in my body?
Avatar m tn 10 hrs later i developed swelling around the eyes, and severe irritation of the area including itching . i think it is an allergy.i was prescribed cetgel one tablet a day as an antihistamine and flupred eyedrops one drop twice a day for one day only.my face still looks out of a horror film with the swelling and the irritation/itching continuing unabated.how many days will this last and what is the best treatment for the swelling and the irritation to subside?
Avatar n tn All told though after over 24 hourse the conditions are incrementally worse -- swelling has extended to middle finger of right hand and same two fingers of my left hand and the rash/hives have spread to my elbow area and feet. I prefer not to go to the hospital and just go see my doctor on Monday. I am ill-inclined to take something like benedril without consulting first with a doctor. When should I expect the reaction to subside. Could it reach the point of becoming dangerous?
Avatar f tn I took a Reactine and the swelling went down a bit, but the bumps are still there. I put some aloe vera gel on my face to soothe the itching and it has been helping, but yeah I'm going to see my doctor tomorrow about it. You're probably right, it's most likely an allergic reaction to a face cream I've been trying (I got a free bag of samples from Shoppers Drug Mart). I'll update when I hear what the doctor has to say about it.
Avatar n tn no I don't but some time back a person sent pictures of the same thing and it woudl quite dramatic. Perhaps you migraines release histamine which is the chemical that causes swelling and hives in allergic people.
501096 tn?1320874932 This morning I awoke when a sore and swollen tongue. It looked a little whitish, but not like thrush. The edges of my tongue felt bumpy (not tiny little spots, just an irregular surface). I had a difficult time eating breakfast due to the soreness. I took an antihistamine, but I don't know if it helped or not. I also have some mild tenderness & swelling just under the left side of my chin; however, it is more noticeable to the touch rather than by observation.
Avatar n tn d like to know what to do about the swelling i try ice and heat but its only gotten worse! I am not as tierd as yesterday but more nauseated. When i went to the ER at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital they advised me that it was a local bite and will go away.NO blood test, NO question about my immunisation records, NOTHING to help me! Im scared because my body does not feel the same!! Please help me!
Avatar f tn It would also be helpful if you were to keep a journal of your diet and other things you were exposed to and a record of symptoms. If you can, go back and reconstruct the last week or so as accurately as possible. This might shed some light on what is causing you to react. Feel better.
Avatar f tn To avoid the allergic reactions, its best to stay away from the allergens. Alegra is an antihistamine and will help with all types of allergic reactions. I would suggest you obtain a referral to an allergist or an ENT who does allergy testing. Some allergies can be life-threatening as they can precipitate anaphylactic shock in which the swelling can be so severe that it impairs the ability to breathe. Therefore, I would suggest you see someone as soon as possible.
Avatar m tn I havent had heartburn, but the hives and iching all over but mainly on the back of my neck and head and ears. My face also swelled up bad. My lips were so swollen they hurt.
Avatar f tn Here she thought she had done the right thing by taking an antihistamine and it had the exact reverse effect. We have no idea what started this whole process and now treating it is a conundrum. She is presently waiting to get an appointment from an allergist but by the time that happens, the hives should be gone. She is trying benadryl cream (topical) and that seems to be working to some extent on the spots on her arms. With any luck, it will help the rest go away too.
