Many parasitic infestations and worms increase the eosinophil counts in the blood and thus cause an increased risk of upper respiratory infections. Conditions like tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, asbestosis and silicosis along with pulmonary fibrosis should be ruled out. Avatar m tn Hi, Cough and sputum are signs of either common cold or lower respiratory tract infections. In either case, as you have undergone major surgery it is important to get a chest x-ray and examination by your doctor for confirmation of the cause for this. In certain cases, as patient’s are mostly in lying position, chances are high to get fluid accumulation or infection. If it common cold, symptomatic treatment would be enough.

Are you having any nasal congestion or post nasal drip?If yes, then sinusitis may be the causing pathology.
