Avatar m tn My ex-mother-in-law had an adorable little mix who had such bad periodontal disease that the whole apartment smelled from the dog's breath. The dog was 12 at the time. Finally it got so bad we gave her an ultimatum to either take the dog to the vet and have her teeth taken care of or we would no longer be visiting. It was just SO foul that you couldn't stand to be around it for more than the blink of an eye.
Avatar m tn Hello everyone. I have some gum problems as I have periodontal disease. I need to take some antibiotics to get the inflammation and bleeding down in my gums before I can get them worked on. I am afraid to take any antibiotics because it is a drug. Avatar n tn I was recently diagonosed with periodontal disease in the back half of my lower jaw. I have an upcoming appointment with a periodontist scheduled. I recently became ill and went to the doctor. I was diagnosed with strep throat via a throat culture. Could the bacterial from the periontal disease contribute to the strep throat, or are these likely two separate issues?
Avatar n tn Is there any relationship between periodontal disease and sleep apnea? My father is suffering from some periodontal disease and has swollen and loose gums and he is using dental implants to get rid of it. He has a snoring problem and now showing some symptoms of sleep apnea as well. Are they related to periodontal diseases? We are planning to get an anti snoring device ( http://www.parkerhilldental.com/our-services/anti-snoring-appliances/ ) to control the snoring issue. Is it really effective?
Avatar m tn I was on Atripla (with Tenofovir) and my hip bone became nearly inoperable. It affected my bones big time. Since then, I was told I had Periodontal Disease, but I don't believe it's a disease. My teeth are spotless. I floss twice daily and brush gently. I never drink soda or candy. I even gave up on alcohol. I think it's an issue of digestion and food quality. GMOs surfaced in our foods in 1996.
Avatar f tn Periodontal disease is common in dogs over the age of 3.....If there is a loose tooth, your dog has some form of disease.....Bad breath is a classic sign! First, you need to schedule a dental cleaning w/extraction if necessary. If there is an infection going on, antibiotics will be used.... After that, you need to brush their teeth if possible. I personally use a product called" Petzlife" gel. I love it!
Avatar f tn I understand that it works for a lot of patients, but it really made me ill. Is periodontal disease a disease of the gums? My dentist said my gums and bone are fine. I just could never afford to keep going to the dentist to fix my teeth. I have been fighting this battle since I was 16 years old. ( I am now almost 45! ) Mom and dad never took us to the dentist unless we were in pain!!!!! No preventative care at all. Anyway, thank you so much, this helps a lot!!! Patty P.s.

Avatar f tn I'm 35 years old, female, I brush my teeth every day yet I somehow got gum disease. I visited my dentist on Friday and has me on anitbiotics and an oral rinse. The swelling has gone down a bit (my two front teeth) but my teeth haven't gotten back into place. I do have to see a periodontist but the appt. isn't until Feb. 11. I want my teeth back the way they were...I now have a huge gap between my two front teeth, looks very bad.
Avatar f tn If it regularly gets infected it is a goner. Any tooth at that stage of periodontal disease needs to be removed or it will compromise the teeth nearby. Most likely, if you are asking about a tooth in trouble, it probably needs to be removed. Periodontal bone loss is mostly hidden and silent until it is too late for the tooth.
Avatar m tn There is a statistical link between periodontal disease (gum infections) and clogged-up coronary arteries. It adds up to about a twofold risk for heart disease. You can google something like" coronary artery disease and periodontal disease" to read the recent studies, if you're interested. No one knows yet exactly what is going on, or whether it's really cause and effect.

Avatar f tn I have mod-advanced periodontal disease and developed a PA abscess and cyst in 7 months which caused severe pain and swelling that required extraction. How did it come about? Is it from dental decay combined with periodontal disease? It was tooth 26 with over 7 mm gum pocket and 50% mobility.. Just wondering if I could have saved it earlier with maybe a root canal? Hope to hear from some expert.
Avatar n tn The rationale of periodontal therapy is complete debridement of root surface, without healthy root surface, cure of periodontal disease is almost impossible. So far, mechanical debridement of root surface is time-proven, evidence-based therapeutical modality. However, perioprotect may reduce the bacterial load on the root surface, and may yield some therapeutic effect. I do'nt think complete cure of periodontal disease is achievable through perioprotect.
Avatar n tn Stomatitis is especially dangerous because it causes periodontal disease, which may lead to organ failure. Stomatitis can sometimes be managed with antibiotics to prevent infection, or oral steroids to reduce inflammation. Ultimately, most stomatitis patients will need to have their teeth removed. This is because the ligaments that hold the teeth in place are usually the tissues being attacked. Once those ligaments are removed, the disease resolves.

Avatar m tn I would say as a dental hygienist at least 90% of my patient have some for of gingivitis or periodontal disease. Gingivitis is classified as any inflammation of the gingiva (gums) redness, bleeding, swollen margins, with little or no bone loss. Gingivitis can be reversed with proper home care and yes by home care I mean flossing. I can not begin to stress enough how important flossing is and how rarely it is done by patients.
Avatar m tn I am a disabled 45 year old woman with diabetes, COPD, MVP, PCOS, and kidney disease. I only have Medicare and NO dental insurance. I have watched my teeth and gums go from bad to worse. No mater what I've done to care for them at home, I now have periodontal disease. I've not had it diagnosed but it is obvious. I have no way to go to a dentist. Is there anything I can do at home?
