Avatar f tn Topamax is usually used to control seizures but I hear that they are also used for migraine. I have never taken the med myself but I did try gabapentin. It too is an anti seizure med used to control neurological pain. I suffer from Chiari malformation and other chronic pain issues. The med did not work for me and caused horrible side effects. Anyways, I too have had meningitis. Two years ago it was bacterial.
Avatar f tn In looking on my own some sites stated it could be mono, or even meningitis. Obviously neither of those results is really happy, and I am not sure how likely they are, but this neck pain is nuts, and I am starting to have issues thinking clearly. If there is any insight into what is going on with me I would sincerely appreciate it. Even questions I should be asking my doctor about what is going on with me, or things I might be able to do to relieve this pain. Thank you so much.
Avatar f tn It is hard for the antibiotics to pass the blood-brain barrier. And with meningitis being in the spinal area it makes it harder to treat.I will keep you in my prayers.May God Bless You.Please let us know how she is doing.
Avatar f tn t want antibiotics (I am against preventative antibiotics for a number of reasons) but my midwife showed me how to monitor my baby for the first week or so every 4 hours and what signs to look for (high/irregular breathing rate, heartbeat too fast, fever, even rashes can suggest exposure to the bacteria, but they're not a sign of infection). My baby had high breathing rates for a day or 2 which we kept an eye on but turned out she was fine.
Avatar m tn When I was first diagnosed with viral meningitis nearly two years ago, my neurologist warned me that it could take six months or more to resolve, but that eventually it should resolve completely. I was prescribed some of the drugs that have been mentioned on this forum as well as others. Nothing had the slightest effect on the awful headache.
Avatar n tn Hi, In 2008 I was diagnosed with meningitis. I had 3 postive LPs. from May through Dec. Each bout last up to a month. I had I tested negative for: lupus, lyme, cancer, herpes (3 different ways), and all the major test you might test in CSF or blood work. MY CSF as my docs said seems to suggest a "viral" picture. I show recent activity for mycoplasma and old activity for epstein barr.
Avatar m tn Hello, Three days ago, I was using a public toliet and I dropped my ceramic tobacco pipe and keys into the toliet accidentally before leaving as I was grabbing something out of my bag. I quickly fished them out and quickly ran water over them in the sink and threw them back in my bag. The next day, I ran hot water and used soap on both of them. I don't know what I was thinking, but I foolishly used the pipe later that day.
Avatar f tn The doctor said hes almost positive hes going to make a full recovery like he never had meningitis before because me and his daddy caught it the day he was infected and got him in on the antibiotics right away the antibiotics sure worked hes eating crazy again and pooping and peeing hes also responding like a normal newborn again the doctor said he just has to stay here to finsh the antibiotics which is a 14 day process but hes going to live it was really hard being a first time mom seeing my s
Avatar f tn If I were you I would go to the hospital and be checked for meningitis. Once bacteria or other organisms have found their way to the brain, they are somewhat isolated from the immune system and can spread. However, when the body eventually begins to fight the infection, the problem can worsen. As the body tries to fight the infection, blood vessels become leaky and allow fluid, white blood cells, and other infection-fighting particles to enter the meninges and the brain.
Avatar f tn Had complications, got aseptic meningitis, and cerebral spinal fluid leaks. Ended up being bedridden in the hospital for nearly 3 weeks. After I got home, I couldn't feel much in my saddle region, as well as testicles and lower half of my penis. I had many rounds of antibiotics, a catheter, lots of opioids. When not hooked up to a catheter, used plastic urinals by turning slightly sideways, which was often very messy. Not allowed to sit up. I have had thrush before.
Avatar n tn I was hospitalized a week ago with viral meningitis. My symtoms were so severe, memory loss, severe whole body pain, stiff neck, etc. Had a spinal tap that showed proteins and sugars....don't know what that means. I'm home now and not feeling much better except pain ebbs and flows severely. I can't think clearly sometimes. How do I tell if I'm getting better with the Meningitis if I'm haveing Fibro pain? I've had FMS for 13 yrs. What is my prognosis?
Avatar f tn I had meningitis at the age of 5 and I was in a car wreck in 1996, I had a cervical fusion and dissection. I am having pain similar to a sciatic nerve and lack of mobility in my legs it used to only happen when I would sweep, weed the garden movements such as that but, now it is almost daily and I have had an MRI, nerve conduction & X-rays (waiting to see the Dr. next week for complete results) so far the only issue that they have told me is that I have arthritis in my lower spine.
Avatar f tn Just an update...MIL has Viral Meningitis. She finally has the right antibiotics and is now improving rapidly. Her attitude is quite negative about having to have her children care for her, so she is pretty close to normal :) It goes to show that it is important to either be your own advocate, or hopefully have someone to speak up when u can't. To think the hospital would have sent her home had we not put our foot down. Thank you all who support dme and prayed for me.
5559430 tn?1369931341 There's a term that you might want to investigate, given your very familiar symptoms, to me. (I was dx'd with Bart also.) Lyme meningitis----- google it. You mentioned : "my symptoms have always been severe, especially neuro, and brain, spine, etc." That sounds as if you had those symptoms BEFORE you started antibiotics so they predated the possibility of a herx causing them. If so, then I'd still advise googling the words above. Good luck to you.
Avatar f tn I haven't, but you SHOULD take it. You don't want your baby to develop meningitis which could be life threatening, and as far as I know there shouldn't be any problems with taking antibiotics.
Avatar f tn Does anybody else have this ? Or have been treated for it in the past. I'm due in just over two weeks and can't stop panicking about it. I know you need antibiotics during labor to prevent the baby getting infected. But then I read about late onset group strep b.. Which the baby can get up until 3 months old, which can cause meningitis, but you can't prevent it?? Does anybody know about this ?
Avatar f tn My son is 19 years old, beginning with strep throat, after antibiotics for ten days,he hasfor the past 3 weeks been having fevers, cold sweats, headaches, blurred vision, numbness in arms, and now diarhea. He is tired all the time, and feels cold and clammy to the touch after his fever breaks. What could this be???
Avatar m tn While i had the virus (a day before i started to present the meningitis symptoms), i used my own saliva as a lubricant and at the end i ended using a condom after all. The problem is that my saliva did touch my genitals and was even present during erection. Could a viral meningitis have been converted to herpes meningitis simply because of my own saliva????(PS. the girl had a lumbar puncture done just in case, i paid :). She turned out negative.) 2.
Avatar f tn Half of women get it, do its normal. They just give you antibiotics during labor so you don't pass it to your baby.
Avatar f tn I had a CAT scan, and lumbar puncture and found out I had meningitis. They admitted me and eventually ruled out bacterial. I was discharged with antibiotics, antivirals and a few other things. Two days after being home I had the same headache and neck pain and the pain meds they gave me weren't even touching the pain. I called the ID doc and the nurse confirmed my HSV-2 test was positive. They direct admitted me for IV acyclovir and pain management.
Avatar f tn Gbs is a bacterium that can cause serious infections in a newborn, including pneumonia and meningitis.
Avatar f tn From what I understand it has to do with the chemical makeup of vaginal and fecal discharge, and some women test positive and others don't if you do it's not a bad thing like an std of any kind. It just means you'll need antibiotics during your labor.
