Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics used conjunctivitis

antibiotics

Avatar f tn Viagamox is one of the most powerful and broad spectrum eye antibiotics drops there is and if a bacterial conjunctivitis is likely enough. Remember that if a viral infection antibiotics don't help.
Avatar f tn First of all you need to be seeing an Eye MD ophthalmologist ideally one that specializes in cornea/external disease. If this is a viral conjunctivitis all the antibiotics in the world will not be effective as antibiotics don't kill virus. You might have an adenovirus infection they can last many months. You can look on WebMD or the internet and read about adenovirus eye infections and one variant called EKC (epidemicokeratoconjunctivitis).
Avatar n tn My partner and I are experiencing symptoms that began about the same time 5/29 - she has conjunctivitis that has at this point spread to both eyes although being prescribed antibiotic eyedrops. About the same time I developed an itching sensation that eventually progressed and became painful and small clear discharge. Also I have some swelling and redness at the tip of the penis. Went to the STD clinic on 6/4, was sampled and diagnosed with NGU.
Avatar m tn Hello everyone, does enybody knows if conjunctivitis caoused by chlamydia or gonorrhea can healed only by eye drops? Or its just healing the pink eye and the bacteria is still in my system?
Avatar n tn Nose did not run when crying, thought maybe lacrimal blockage, used massage and saline drops, which after a week caused bleeding and small amount of green discharge, also caused, foul smelling pus in corner of eyes and conjunctivitis which lasted for several weeks. Tears now run down nose, but infection continues to recur. Have pain at lacrimal sac, smell of pus when I press, also have recuring pain boney sides of nose.
Avatar n tn If you mean he has conjunctivitis antibiotic drops are usually prescribed. If the conjunctivitis is due to a virus the antibiotics will not help however it is often expensive and/or impractical to do tests to make the determination if virus or bacteria. So yes antibiotic drops are usually prescribed.
Avatar n tn I have seen an ophtamologist about it, had many tests done, including blood tests (not within range- fibrinogen 600, ESR 45, ASLO 273 ) and I have taken antibiotics for14 days (an infectious disease doctor prescribed them to me). The redness goes away for several days, only to return one morning ( like today) without any apparent cause. I am really frightened that something serious may be an underlying cause. Can you help me?
Avatar f tn There is no 'typical' clearing of conjunctivitis ('pink eye is not a medical diagnosis and many things can make an eye pink). It's just like trying to predict how long a cold will last. If it doesn't respond quickly: it may not be conjunctivitis, if its bacterial it may not be susceptible to the antibiotic and often its a virus and antibiotics don't kill virus (like they don't help viral colds).
Avatar m tn I have some breathing problem feels like the capacity of heart and lung have reduced because earlier i used to do lot of workout and still be ok but now i have to wait to catch breath. Besides this my ears feels clogged .I got it checked by ENT .He didn't find anything wrong. Also have pain in knees. And when i go to sleep hearts starts beating faster. Also had conjunctivitis for 1 month during which all the above problem where at their peak.
Avatar m tn Ok, I have had dry, red, sore eyes and eyelids for a while after a prolonged bout of bacterial conjunctivitis, and I don't think the antibiotics helped the dryness! Doctor gave me sodium cromoglicate, as he suspects I have allergic conjunctivitis, and it has helped with the soreness and dryness alot, which is nice. I live in London, and it is the smog and fumes that get me, especially in Tube stations, I look like I have been mourning for days.

Avatar n tn If you had pink eye conjunctivitis (classic), it was caused by a virus, not a bacteria. Bacterial conjunctivitis is usually in one eye only. Antibiotics are often prescribed but only to avoid a "superinfection" which I have never seen happen with or without antibiotics for my 30 years in practice. They are not usually needed actually. Since you are getting better, I advise using preservative free artificial tears 2 to 4 times a day.
Avatar f tn Hi Gabby, Katie is right about the contacts. Keep them OUT! best to throw that pair out. Warm compresses help ALOT. There really isn't any "magic" drops or antibiotics for conjunctivitis...its a virus and its contagious. Wash ALL the door knobs, faucet handles and other objects that others touch frequently. Using rewetting or artifical tear drops from the drug store should be okay...if your eyes begin to hurt and the gunk is turning green...you need to see a doctor.
Avatar m tn 2-3 days later, and I started to experience a burning sensation when urinating, and also possible conjunctivitis in both eyes (sticky when i wake up, very red constantly, and watery/streaming. I returned to the doctor (by this time 14 days post sexual encounter) and another more comprehensive urine test was carried out. As I was now symptomatic, I was prescribed 100 doxycycline b.i.d. for 7 days.
Avatar n tn My boyfriend has conjunctivitis in one eye, he has had this for a year now he has been to 4 different doctors and has taken several antibiotics. antibiotics seem to help but they wont get better because he wont stop rubbing them which makes it so much worse. we have tried eye patch, Cold compress , hot compress and eye solution but its a habit now to rub his eyes what can we do?
Avatar m tn had oral sex with an escort 15 months back, but developed gum bleeding afterwards, was treated completely with oral antibiotics (tetracycline). had sex with same person 17 months back, but this time i had urethritis and gum bleeding, again had tetracyclines, but with an initial improvement, it took a protracted and non remitting course with persistent urethritis. it went on with new symptoms like testicular pain, pain during ejaculation, burning during urination, dry cough sometimes.
Avatar f tn Its not at all likely you have a fundus in your eyes. Many colds and flu are caused by viruses that can cause eye infections (conjunctivitis). A blocked tear duct is not at all likely. If you are getting a lot of pus out of your eyes you might want to see an ophthalmologist or optometrist as they often clear up faster with antibiotic drops (or course a virus is not killed by antibiotics and won't help viral conjunctivitis.
