Avatar m tn Antibiotics prescribed to treat staph infections include cephalosporins, nafcillin or related antibiotics, sulfa drugs or intravenous vancomycin.Consult a dermatologist. Early diagnosis and treatment will be helpful. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn And also how contagious is it? Like is it alright to go to work and out places and what should I do to try and not spread it to other people?
Avatar n tn But also regarding the Staph infections are these resistant Staph or do you know? You may want to see an infectious disease specialist and then they can refer you to an immunologist or even test you themselves. Staph is very easily transmitted and also you can easily reinfect yourself. You need to be sure to wash all clothing blankets, towels, anything that has been in contact with it in hot soapy water.
Avatar m tn pretty much though you need to see your doctor today or tomorrow for your current /new symptoms. chronic antibiotic use to treat staph issues can lead to chronic fungal infections all throughout your body.
Avatar f tn They have developed other antibiotics to treat it. However, they are stronger antibiotics and can be harder to take. Staph in general (MRSA or not) causes boils, impetigo, furuncles and mostly other skin and wound problems. Sometimes eye infections and other issues. Sometimes with impetigo you can get a mixture of staph and strep in the wound and you get a crusty sore which is easily spread. It also can produce blisters at first then become crusty. What does your infection look like?
Avatar n tn It is difficult to answer your question. Bacterial infections don't really have side effects like a drug. You can get worse from a Staph infection if you don't treat it with something. Staphylococci can be normal skin bacteria (flora) or can cause an infection. If you have a minor skin infection such as a minor cut or impetigo try neosporin or other topical. If you have boils you can try hot compresses or a hot bath and topical antibiotics.
Avatar f tn MEthicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus infection - is a form of infection which is resistant to most of antibiotics used currently, there is limited number of antibiotics that actually treat it amongst which are Vancomycin, Clindamycin and etc. It is a very serious disease, If a patient is diagnosed with it he should strictly follow the dosing schedule of the preparations and never forget a dosage as the whole treatment might be ineffective after it.
453284 tn?1205793544 Unfortunately cystics are always fighting one form of infection or another. It is common for cystics to colonize bacteria as well, such as pseudomonas aeruginosa, staph aureus and others because the lungs are a perfect breeding ground for bacteria due to the sticky mucous. I personally grow out B. cepacia (not a very nice bug), staph, steno. maltophillia (sp?) and pseudomonas about every time they culture me. When I get sick, the colonies are usually much higher and I have to get IV antibiotics.
Avatar m tn s not the end of the world, and MOST staph infections are easily treated with antibiotics. The media hype and scare about staph infections and the "superbug" stories really are overly dramatized. Even a "superbug" would respond to some kind of antibiotic, just not the more commonly used ones. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I am looking for a little input if I should spend thousands to treat him or try to treat him. Considering that the infection is going to be harder to treat because of the cushing disease. Can't treat the cushing because of the infection. Than putting my family at risk for staph. I am thinking I will have to make the tough decision and just let him go. What do you think?
Avatar m tn d like to know is whether these issues are likely to be attributable to staph spreading internally, and if so, what I need to do to deal with the problem. Thanks much!
Avatar m tn Anyone can develop a Staph infection, although certain groups of people are at greater risk, including newborn infants, breastfeeding women, and people with chronic conditions such as diabetes, cancer, vascular disease, and lung disease. Injecting drug users, those with skin injuries or disorders, intravenous catheters, surgical incisions, and those with a weakened immune system all have an increased risk of developing Staph infections.
Avatar m tn My dermatologist said that I will basically have a staph infection forever and will have to treat is as needed. Is this a proper diagnosis? Why can't I get rid of it? I have already tried antibiotics and other drugs that have helped for a while but it comes back.
Avatar m tn I have had reoccurring infections of various kinds over the past several years including styes, cysts in my upper thigh regions, nose, and now a golfball sized abcess on my back. I've been prescribed apo cephalex 4x daily @ 500 mg, and have been taking echinecea and doing hot compresses several times a day. Nothing seems to be helping so far, and when I went in to the clinic doctor, she said it was too hard to lance (on the 20th, it's now 11 pm of the 23rd)....
Avatar n tn Gram positive bacteria like MRSA (staph infections) are typically not resistant to antibiotics as appose to gram negative which are. It is possible to treat the problem but if the infection is in your blood stream although the bacteria is killed, endotoxin (in the cell wall or core of bacteria) is hard to clean from your blood. It attacks your tissues and causes inflamation.
Avatar m tn t healed, the doctor should prescribe a second run of antibiotics (some infections take longer to heal than the doctor expected). If that has happened and still no positive result, the doctor should change the prescription to a different kind of antibiotic. The concern is, of course, that if the doctor has prescribed one or more kinds of antibiotic and the infection hasn't gone away, it is possible that the infection is resistant to antibiotic treatment.
Avatar m tn Staph infections can be very difficult to treat. Staph bacteria can produce toxins and can cause various infections (wound, skin, toxins and if unlucky, septicemia/bacteremia). It may be killed by chlorine in the water but will not be killed on the skin especially if the bacteria is deeper and protected by the skin and tissue. The chlorine level may not be high enough to actually kill off the bacteria especially since some strains of Staph. auerus tend to be pretty tough.
707563 tn?1626361905 One multidrug resistant bacteria is Staphylococcus aureus. It can become multidrug resistant Staph aureus or (MRSA) and make it difficult to treat. But usually there are a number of antibiotics to treat with . The bigger problem is when they cause recurring infections. Some of these MRSA bacteria "take root" in the area they infected you with and sort of "seed" themselves. You can keep treating it but you really have to stay on top of this if it recurs.

Avatar f tn If is a large area and is sensitive to antibiotics they may want to treat you. It may be folliculitis due to your skin problem. After treatment you may want to take a probiotic for a couple of weeks. Here are some links. I don't know it may make you worry since you don't know if you have MRSA (resistant staph) or not. So , you can transmit staphylococci by touching the staph itself on your skin but not areas where there is no staph.
Avatar f tn Has anyone bn in antibiotics during pregnancy? If so how far along were you? Had anyone taken azithromax 250??
1415174 tn?1453243103 Also, it is harder to treat if the bacteria becomes resistant. One resistant type of Staph is Staph aureus. This Staph can become resistant to multiple antibiotics. It is also referred to as MRSA short for Methicillin Resistant Staph aureus. Methicillin is one type of antibiotic. So it is possible that he had a resistant strain of staph or a toxin caused by a Strep. Did you find out the type of bacteria?

Avatar n tn She has had every medication that could possibly treat her, oral, nasal, and ear antibiotics (over 20 different Rx). July 2009, she had the holes in her ears patched up and adenoids removed. Still, discharge and infections. In Jan 2010, she had another surgery to drain her sinuses and had multiple biopsies throughout her nasal and ear cavity. Still, she has continued drainage since this surgery, even with 4 different antibiotics.

1570504 tn?1295634828 Are you saying she keeps getting staph infections? I take it she's been to the Dr and has taken antibiotics? The best thing to do is keep the area as clean as you can. Staph is infectious so you have to be careful with anyone she comes into physical contact with. It seems that people who get one staph infection are prone to others for some reason.
Avatar f tn Hello, Although first, second and third generation cephalosporins are used in septicemia but the main use of cephalexin is in cystitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis and skin and soft tissue infections. Appropriate antibiotics to treat sepsis are combinations of two or three antibiotics given at the same time; most combinations usually include vancomycin to treat many MRSA infections.
