Avatar m tn Because chickenpox is a viral disease, antibiotics are ineffective. Antibiotics may be prescribed if the blisters become infected. Calamine lotion helps to reduce itchiness. You can apply that on you blisters. If there is fever then please take acetaminophen(Tylenol). Also consult a dermatologist as the severity of the disease can be judged. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar n tn The best way to prevent fevers is to reduce your exposure to infectious diseases. One of the most effective ways to do that is also one of the simplest — frequent hand washing. Has a chest xray, urine examination been done? Let us know about any other information that you might need . Regards.
1466984 tn?1310560608 Hi all, I am feeling like I may have a sinus infection. I have been feeling more light headed and off balance than usual, lots of chills, head throbbing when I move a certain way, pressure behind my eyes - very tired! I HATE calling the doc - it's been very snowy here - and if I do call the doc - who do I call? GP or neuro?

242516 tn?1368223905 The flu has passed epidemic rates in much of the country, and if you don't have a cold, I'm sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread.
Avatar f tn The other reason is that this supports the immune system and actually helps to reduce the severity of symptoms, since you already have whatever virus this is, and it can help to reduce the duration when it's a viral infection.

Avatar n tn My question is, i am almost postive this bout is due to the cold i just got over...do you think this could be bacterial or result of the virus? Should i go get antibiotics tomorrow, or just wait it out? As of now i have swollen neck glands, and both tonsils are swollen, although one much more than the other. That one is pussing, secreteing stones, and very red and swollen.

Avatar f tn I changed GP after 2 weeks of enduring plugged ear and low grade fever. The new GP put me on Medrol dose pk to reduce inflammation. Its been six days. slight improvement in the ear. I feel some trickling sensation and then liquid in my throat. The fever is constant between 99.5 to 100. Anyone with similar issues? Please help I am so tired dealing with this issue. Its been 3 weeks already.
Avatar f tn Well I don't think you really can do to its your body's self cleaning system.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately nothing OTC or antibiotics will kill a "cold".... viruses have to run their course. But to mask symptoms there are OTC meds available, although I don't personally recommend them even though they are deemed "safe" . Drink tea with lemon and honey. Eat fruits and veggies. If your stuffed up, a nedi pod or vicks works well.
Avatar m tn Less Phlegm but my ears started hurting and I had some pain under my jaw. Like 2 lines. Went back to the doctor and she gave me a nasal spray to reduce the phlegm in my throat. She gave me another prescription for zithromax. Week7: Burning chest and at times burning throat or dry throat. Feels like I been screaming. I feel pressure around my jaws. I went back to my original doctor and he gave me Augmentin (antibiotics). He said one of my tonsils are a little swollen.
Avatar n tn Even if it IS a virus, there are things the pediatrician can suggest you do to help your child feel better and stay hydrated and reduce the stomach pain. The BRAT diet is a good diet to follow for a child experiencing stomach troubles. Bananas, rice, applesauce, toast. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Unfortunately, I am not very careful about my health. I would like to reduce smoking to a maximum of 5 cigarettes but I can't. I don't eat fruits and vegetables at all however I take multivitamin o and multimineral often. Dental health ok, mouthwash every other day and teeth brushed twice a day. In any case, there have been no recent changes in my lifestyle that warrant these infections. White blood cells should be ok so I don't understand such recurrent infections. PS.
Avatar f tn s been on several antibiotics over the course of our investigations in an attempt to treat the most likely infections that might cause the symptoms, but her fever has still not lowered significantly from its average 40 degrees celsius. Metacam has been used to try to reduce her fever but has not worked, so she's been taken off of it. I can't remember the names of the specific antibiotics now, but Clavaseptin was one she's been on I think and Doxycycline another.
Avatar f tn "That is to say, the fever has nothing to do with ars?" Instead of asking new questions answer the one you were asked. Namely, "Please be specific about your risk." Oral anal or vaginal and did you use a condom?
Avatar n tn I think you may want to check and see why the antibiotics help. There are some diseases that require several months of antibiotics such as Lymes disease. This may be something you want to bring up to your doctor. Sorry I couldn't help more.
