antibiotics

Avatar f tn Ok.. Thanks. I did went ahead and started my next pack of bcp.
Avatar f tn Also they ask if you are on birth control because antibiotics decrease the effectiveness of oral contraceptives and therefore a second method of birth control is necessary while taking them.
Avatar f tn t a form of birth control. I continued to take my birth control for the remainder of the pack. I take junel, only 3 weeks of active pills then a week where you don't take any pills. I don't normally have a period every month as I tend to just start the next pack immediately after I finish one. This is the first time I have tried to have a period for the month.
Avatar f tn A lot of antibiotics cause birth control to be ineffective.
Avatar n tn My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex mid -month when I would have normally been ovulating but a couple days later I started taking antibiotics. The nurse told me it would void my birth control so we needed to use another method in the mean time. Is it possible that I could still get pregnant from when we had sex before I started the antibiotics now that the pill isn't really that effective for me?
Avatar f tn hey everyone, i have a question i just switched from the depo shot to the pill. i received the shot the day after i had my daughter april 1 2013, and three months later i switched to the pill. i took the pill on a tuesday three or four days before i had too. so that i wouldnt have a break in birth control. im on the placebo part of the pack i actually have four days left and haven't received my period. meaning i have four days til i take a new pack. im a tuesday start, if that makes sense.
Avatar n tn My girlfriend had been on birth control for about two years. She always had her period on a saturday. Always. She had to stop taking the pills for a month (her prescription was messed up), but once she got her pills back, she didn't wait for her period to start before starting the pills. So my question is, would it be normal for her period to start on a saturday still? Because the period after she started the pills again started on a saturday and lasted for nine days.
Avatar f tn It is recommended that someone starting on the "birth control pill" waits 2 full menstrual cycles before relying solely on it for birth control. Condoms are encouraged until completion of the second cycle. And remember that the "pill" isn't 100% effective, only 98% and doesn't provide any protection against STD's. Also when taking any antibiotics with the pill, it lowers the effectiveness and so does having diarrhea or vomiting as it is not absorbed in the system.
Avatar f tn I have been on birth control but a few weeks ago i was taking a couple of antibiotics for my bladder and im afraid it messed up the birth control and i had the nuva ring in for the past three weeks and took it out days ago and still havent bled.
Avatar n tn No the antibiotics does not increase your chances but you having unprotected sex does. Antibiotics causes birth control pills not to work effectively and will in fact increases your chances of getting pregnet.
Avatar n tn A month ago I was on antibiotics and was also about a week in to changing birth control. I was very consistent about the time I took the birth control because it was a low-hormone type. I had sex during this week mostly with a condom but the times that I didn’t my boyfriend either pulled or our put a condom on toward the end of our intercourse. The new birth control I switched two during this time provided only four sugar pills versus my old one, which provided a whole week.
Avatar f tn I would use comdoms till you stop the antibiotics, I'm not sure about the rate of pregnancy while on BC and taking antibiotics sorry
Avatar n tn 1- What are my chances of getting pregnant on the 8th day of a 24 day cycle? 2- How much of an affect will those two pills of antibiotics have on my birth control? Thank you all so much for any advice you may offer!
Avatar f tn I know antibiotics can affect birth control, and I have read that sperm can stay active for about 5 days in a woman’s body, so those are my concerns if the antibiotics affected the birth control that was in my system after having a possibility of sperm still there.
639543 tn?1297027634 I had my son on July 14th, and now that I know how CHAOTIC being a mommy is (JUST KIDDING!) I want to get on birth control. DH and I decided we don't want another baby for a while, we want to enjoy Dameon as MUCH as possible (and he's getting SO big so fast!! :[ ). So what kind of birth control did you ladies use after having a baby?? I will not do IUD or the shot/patch, any other suggestions??
Avatar f tn I'm on birth control ortho tri cyclen lo and I take it at the same time every day. On June 12 I began taking two antibiotics for a course of two weeks that you took twice daily. I was on vacation and my period was supposed to come the week of my vacation (June 13-24) so instead of taking my week of sugar pills I started my new birth control pack to skip my period while on vacation. June 18 I had sex. We used a trojan condom that did not break.
Avatar f tn I heard that antibiotics interfere with birth control pills, but I’m on the birth control that gets implanted under my skin – will antibiotics interfere with that too? A: This is one of the biggest medical myths of all time; one that gets propagated in doctors’ offices, health clinics, hospitals, blogs, magazines, and student health centers every day. ...
Avatar f tn Some (but not all) antibiotics do lower the efficacy of birth control. If the doctor told you to use a back-up method, you should have listened. Pre-ejaculate can contain some sperm--specifically if he has ejaculated beforehand and not done anything to clear the urethra. If your antibiotics lowered the efficacy of your birth control pill, you very well could ovulate while on your pill.
Avatar f tn I take the mini pill birth control and did not do any emergency contraceptive afterwards because I’m on birth control ,and the concerns kicked in about the antibiotics possibly affecting the mini pill birth control. As you mentioned before about ovulation not happening right before your period and during it, that brought on a sense of relief! Again, thank you!
Avatar f tn I'm a 16 years old and have been taking birth control for 9 days now. Me and my partner has intercourse 3 nights ago and used the pull out method. Is there a chance that i could become pregnant if he came in me and only being on the birth control for 10 days? Thanks for your help.
Avatar m tn last month was my first time of using birth control pills. I was expecting my period to come on the first week of March and on the 6th of this month i had spotting. Thought it was the beginning of my period (that would be my first period using pills) but to my surprise it lasted only for 1 day. 2 days later I started taking antibiotics (for cough) for a week . Now is the 23 and still i havnt got my period. What could possibly be the reason? Am I pregnant?
