Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics kids strep

antibiotics

Avatar m tn Hello, i am now concerned, I was perscribed penicillin for strep throat on monday (the day of my urine test) and have been taking it all week, (i got another urine test on Thursday) they both came out negative for gonorrhea and chlamydia after unprotected vaginal sex a week ago i am now concerned because i have read on here that taking an antibiotic can mask the test and cause false negatives?? is this true?? thanks!
Avatar m tn Most sore throats are caused by viruses so he may not get exposed to this same strep throat if the kids have a sore throat at school. Strep throat is contagious and so he and the other kids should not share utinsils, and you should throw away his tooth brush after the antibiotics are finished as he can reinfect himself. You and other family members and friends could have been exposed before he was put on antibiotics but he would be ok now since he is on antibiotics.
Avatar f tn Has anyone been hooked up to antibiotics for strep b while in labor? You can still walk around n go all natural right?
Avatar n tn He had his first strep throat at 8 months. He has had tubes in his ears twice. He is on antibiotics several times each year. He is on his 4th antibiotic in the last 9 weeks (they just aren't working). He had his tonsils removed two years ago and still gets strep two or three times a year. We have gone to an allergist - he has no real allergies to speak of, only a mild dust allergy. We have taken care of that by removing carpets, hypoallergenic bedding, etc.
Avatar f tn Well i found out today that I'm positive....i was hoping to be one of the lucky ones to not have it, but of course i get it. So now I'll be on antibiotics when i go into labor. Anyone have their kids with this? And if so, was everything ok?
Avatar f tn I'm 37 weeks, 43 yrs old, pregnant with my 4th. I plan to be induced at 39 wks and 1 day bc of AMA. Other than not enjoying being pregnant its been a healthy normal pregnancy. Until I found out that I tested positive for strep B. I have always tested negative. So now I'm totally stressed about this. I would appreciate any insight.
Avatar f tn I did with my last 2 kids. I had to take antibiotics. 2 pills a day for a week.
Avatar f tn I was positive, didn't want antibiotics (I am against preventative antibiotics for a number of reasons) but my midwife showed me how to monitor my baby for the first week or so every 4 hours and what signs to look for (high/irregular breathing rate, heartbeat too fast, fever, even rashes can suggest exposure to the bacteria, but they're not a sign of infection). My baby had high breathing rates for a day or 2 which we kept an eye on but turned out she was fine.
10623623 tn?1414292089 IE before I knew they existed..never took one for strep, etc. Lots of soup, tea, and antibiotics. I have never had a doc ask me if I wanted pain pills for strep, etc. I think you will be fine. See a doc. Hope you feel better soon.
242516 tn?1368223905 The flu has passed epidemic rates in much of the country, and if you don't have a cold, I'm sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread.
Avatar n tn I went to the Dr today and he informed me I tested positive for strep b and I tried googling it and now I am more upset then I was before. This is my 3rd pregnancy and my other 2 were fine I don't even remember being tested for strep. I feel horrible know that I could harm my baby and not even know it or being able to prevent harming her. Someone please I need so peace of mind. Has anyone else had or has this and how has it affected your little ones??
Avatar f tn This is my second pregnancy, with my first one everything was fine but with this one I tested positive for the group b strep! I am very worried and can't stop thinking about it. I researched it and was mortified with what I found out about it. I am terrified! Has anyone else dealt with this?
Avatar f tn Sane thing I'm strep b positive. I had 2 kids with no antibiotics both are amazingly healthy no issues. My 3rd I made it in time for the iv and hopefully my 4th one I'll make it in time. It means an extra day in the hospital for monitoring and an iv which you don't notice with all the craziness of giving birth.
Avatar f tn Just wondering if any of you have had a urinary tract infection positive for Strep B? My midwife called today and started me on an antibiotic and said I would have to be treated again when I was in labor bec of risks to the baby. Have any of you had this And experienced any complications? I'm a nervous wreck. Thank you!
3062924 tn?1350414109 You and your baby will be fine. They will give you antibiotics during labor so your baby doesnt contract it during delivery. Its normal to have and its nothing you did wrong.
Avatar f tn My first pregnancy I had gbs. He was born perfectly healthy. They will give you antibiotics during labor to ensure a healthy little one. No worries! I was induced and I went in that night for antibiotics. If you go into labor on your own, they'll still give them to you.
Avatar f tn It is really up to you, I had a sinus infection and opted to stick it out. Strep is going through my family and I know with my luck I will get it, but I will definitely take antibiotics to try and keep it from spreading even more.
Avatar f tn Neither are a big deal your just have to have antibiotics during labor for the strep. And the blood type issue is called rh negative means your baby b is positive abd your negative so blood types don't mesh.
1697869 tn?1306766843 Okay guys. I'm freaking out because I found out a 4 weeks I was pregnant, then at 5 I got strep throat. Dr. prescribed Amoxicillin and I took it. Now, looking back I'm really really afraid I may have hurt my baby (I'm 9 weeks now) I understand that I had to take it or it the strep could have hurt the baby. Now, to top it all off, I got a yeast infection from the antibiotics and I don't know what to do. I'm mortified at the idea of taking another medicine. HELP!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar f tn Hi there. So, to treat for strep they have to swab your throat. You must have had strep present on the swab which means that really was the issue. And strep can be a little resistant. Augmentin does usually knock it out though. I took antibiotics for a full month around the clock for a tooth issue (yes, 4 times a day and got up at night or it). I was fine during. About two weeks after stopping, all heck broke loose in my GI track. I did get a yeast infection and treated that.
Avatar m tn When I was a child and would get strep throat, my pediatrician would prescribe antibiotics for my mom and dad too as my germs were so strong, LOL, they still are. It did not hurt them any and they did not get my strep. So, I think it is all up to the individual. Immunity usually develops if you take something for a long period. I would ask your doctor if you are concerned about this however. Enjoy your trip.
Avatar n tn ShadowPhoenix, I didn't even think about strep! It's been running rampant in my daughters' schools. That's a very real possibility. SasyLassie, the hospital was a big concern. Also, giving it to my kids. I'm taking the z-pack, so if it works and the kids get sick, at least I've been a test case and we'll know what knocks it out.
Avatar f tn All born with me having been positive for strep b. Born perfectly healthy with no health problems. I was given an IV for antibiotics and all my babies r fine. Don't stress, stressing will cause more damage then your, very treatable, strep b.
Avatar f tn So my test came back positive for the strep b swab , does that mean that i am going to have a c section or a natural birth ? How anyone went thru this before ?
Avatar n tn I did with 2 of my 6 kids. They should give you IV antibiotics a few hours before you have baby (as long as they have time to do so) my babies were both born perfectly healthy!
Avatar m tn t thing strep would cause your tongue to burn though. If you have been on strong antibiotics, especially if it has been a long course, you could have a thrush infection starting. I would recommend that you gargle with a warm salt water solution to kill the thrush yeast. Feel better.
Avatar n tn Consider your drinking water a source. We were on well water and were informed that the constant strep throat infection my kids had could be coming from the water they were drinking. Strep can be passed through water. Ever since we have been on bottled water we have been in the clear.
