Avatar f tn The repeated respiratory tract infections mainly points towards immunodeficiency (selective IgA deficiency in his case), congenital heart disease and genetic disorder like cystic fibrosis. It is mandatory to rule out the cause and should be treated accordingly by conservative or definitive management. Treatment will be in the form of management of infection involving the lower respiratory tract.

Avatar f tn Recurrent respiratory infections, concurrent with recurrent urinary tract infections is a very common scenario because infection in each of these sites, lungs and urinary tract, is very common. For this reason, the occurrence of these two, together, does not mean that they are related in any way, including having a common cause.

Avatar m tn Many viral conditions like EBV (glandular fever) behave in this way with recurrent respiratory infections. Many parasitic infestations and worms increase the eosinophil counts in the blood and thus cause an increased risk of upper respiratory infections. Conditions like tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, asbestosis and silicosis along with pulmonary fibrosis should be ruled out. If there is no fever then chances of allergic reaction, acidity and reflux and high eosinophil count are more.
Avatar m tn I am taking bactrim for a UTI. I also have a sore throat. No scratchiness or raw feeling. It just hurts to swallow. (Like when a piece of potato chip gets stuck going down.) Doctor yesterday took a swab but said bactrim doesn't work for upper respiratory infections. However, she didn't give me an other antibiotic. I don't have fever. But she said the bactrim may be preventing me from having fever. When I looked on line, it said that bactrim is prescribed for upper respiratory.

Avatar m tn Hi, Cough and sputum are signs of either common cold or lower respiratory tract infections. In either case, as you have undergone major surgery it is important to get a chest x-ray and examination by your doctor for confirmation of the cause for this. In certain cases, as patient’s are mostly in lying position, chances are high to get fluid accumulation or infection. If it common cold, symptomatic treatment would be enough.
Avatar f tn metabolic comes after the flushing of the nasal tract which ultimately drains the upper respiratory tract. the flushing of the nasal passages using the neti pot with time changes the flora in your respiratory back to normal, clearing out all the mucous buildup feeding bacterial and fungal invaders. some case may need combination of meds with nasal irrigation along with surgery in cases where polyps or fungal ball develop.

Avatar n tn This can cause ulcers on the gums, tongue, lips, roof of the mouth, throat, and lungs. This is one of the two most dangerous viral upper respiratory infections. It commonly leads to bacterial infections that require antibiotics to cure. Pneumonia is also a somewhat common complication. Most cats will stop eating when suffering this infection due to mouth pain.
Avatar m tn Fever and cough with sputum also indicate an infection of the lower respiratory tract. You need antibiotics to tackle the infection. So, please consult your primary care physician at the earliest. In the meantime you could try warm salt water gargles, steam inhalation and OTC Tylenol (acetaminophen). Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Possible causes that may need to be considered include GI causes such as infections/ inflammation, motility issues, GU infections, inflammations, stress/ anxiety, medication side effect, hormonal/ endocrine issues, causes related to the respiratory tract/ cardiovascular system, autonomic disturbances etc. I would suggest considering an initial evaluation by an internist and depending on the cause(s) diagnosed/ suspected, it can be managed accordingly or specialist(s) care may be sought.

Avatar m tn Hello, Upper respiratory tract infections can lead to inflammation of sinuses which in turn lead to excess production of mucus which on non drainage can lead to pressure on the sinuses and hence headache and a feeling of light headedness. The sinuses are air-filled spaces lined with mucous membranes surrounding the forehead, cheeks and eyes. Are you having any nasal congestion or post nasal drip?If yes, then sinusitis may be the causing pathology.
Avatar n tn My cat has had a sinus problem since earlier in the fall -- lots of sneezing, runny nose, etc. I took him to the vet who prescribed antibiotics. They were effective but about two weeks after completing the antibiotics, the sneezing started again. Since then we have gone throught two additional rounds of antibiotics, the latest was horrid pink stuff (Novolexin) that I could barely get down his throat!

I went to urgent care last week to get treatment for a UTI and was prescribed cipro (500mg x 2/day x 10days). The doctor said my urine was neg. for a UTI but that I could have an issue with my prostate (prostatitis?
Avatar m tn Hi, I battle lot's of infections, mainly sinus/upper respiratory, almost monthly, my wbc is not high but always elevated. Was sent to hematology, but clinic only deals with blood cancers, which I do not have. Antibiotics work, Amoxicillin, Bactrim, etc.... but infections always returns. What physician or specialty clinic, deals with chronic infections ? So, I can discuss with my primary doctor for referral, thanks.
Avatar m tn You are in an areea where there are not formal recommendations. On the other hand, the moxifloxacin is good for both prostate infections, mycoplasma genitalium and other urianry tract infections. When we are at the satge of "trial and "error", this has been helpful in the past. My consern would be that you have prostatitis.
Avatar n tn Lemon and cranberry juice will help with urinary tract infections as a preventative in susceptible individuals but will not cure an active infection. Your dog's urine should really be checked for infection with a urinalysis. Please bring a fresh urine sample to your vet for analysis. You may not even have to bring your dog in for an exam if the urine is positive for a simple urinary tract infection (an infection without crystals). The vet can simply give appropriate antibiotics.
Avatar f tn ve also been worried about antibiotics. I had a really bad cough from a respiratory infection very early in my pregnancy. I was on amoxicillan for a week, but my cough never fully went away. And now it's getting worse again. Just talk to your doctor, let them know you are worried, and see what they say. You do need to get treated, but I know you are scared.
Avatar m tn Based on my experience, blood in the urine was due to urinary tract infection. I felt pain in my vagina when passing urine and drops of blood came out after the urine. My gynecologist gave me antibiotics to treat the infection. If your wife feels the same, better take her to the doctor immediately.
