Avatar m tn Hello, i am now concerned, I was perscribed penicillin for strep throat on monday (the day of my urine test) and have been taking it all week, (i got another urine test on Thursday) they both came out negative for gonorrhea and chlamydia after unprotected vaginal sex a week ago i am now concerned because i have read on here that taking an antibiotic can mask the test and cause false negatives?? is this true?? thanks!
Avatar f tn Any ladies got a positive result for the strep b test? I just came from the doc. I'm 36+2 and I'm positive. Should I be worried?
2132141 tn?1335678074 m on antibiotics. A quick google search said strep B is a bacterial infection normally found in the vagina and/or rectum of about 25% of all healthy, adult women. It was about 5 months since I was with my fiance and the oral sex was very brief, but that sounds like the best explanation for how I got strep B (we didn't go any further than oral sex).
1110747 tn?1295844043 I had my 24 week checkup and I told the OB about the itching/discomfort I get in my vagina area when I go to bed, so she said it can be many things so she did a swab. The test she did in the office came back negative for everything but the lab said I'm positive for B-Strep. I got the call today about this and the nurse told me they normally don’t test for this until 36 weeks. At this moment I am waiting to go to the pharmacy to get my antibiotics.
Avatar f tn Today I found out that I tested positive for strep b and I understand it's common and can also cause bad illness and even death in my baby.. :-(.. But my question is what happens if the baby does happen to catch it? What happens to my baby boy and how do they fix it? And I understand that if my water breaks I need to go to the hospital straight away for antibiotics, but what if I have contractions instead do I still wait until they are 5 to 3 minutes apart?
Avatar f tn I took my whole course of antibiotics and felt fine for a day and then it felt weird again. Also, my throat physically never looked normal. I wish I could add a picture. On each side there is a small oval looking scar or something and my throat looks like cobblestone. And it is red. I have had very slight soreness on and off during these 3 weeks. I should note I do not have tonsils. My lymph nodes on the side of my neck, just under my jawline, is swollen.
Avatar f tn sore troat I mean,,,, sorry for the spelling... lol...
341551 tn?1266980730 My results came in and I tested Positive for Strep B. I was so upset, but my doctor insisted that it wasn't a big deal and 40% of Pregnant women test positive for it and it is easily treated with Antibiotics during labor. But still, I've been doing some research on it and I keep reading that having Antibiotics isn't good during labor and there's still a chance my baby can get it and get meningitis or other horrible things?? I'm so confused!
Avatar f tn they are good bacteria. group b strep happens when u have to much bad bacteria and the thing about antibiotics the reason people have yeast infections etc are because antibiotics kill good and bad bacteria so probiotics are good bacteria so while the antibiotics kill all bacteria probiotics give good bacteria which helps not get yeast infection and they even regulate ur system. i take them when i found out i tested positive for group b strep i did research and alot of moms. with gbs take them.
Avatar f tn It is really up to you, I had a sinus infection and opted to stick it out. Strep is going through my family and I know with my luck I will get it, but I will definitely take antibiotics to try and keep it from spreading even more.
1697869 tn?1306766843 Okay guys. I'm freaking out because I found out a 4 weeks I was pregnant, then at 5 I got strep throat. Dr. prescribed Amoxicillin and I took it. Now, looking back I'm really really afraid I may have hurt my baby (I'm 9 weeks now) I understand that I had to take it or it the strep could have hurt the baby. Now, to top it all off, I got a yeast infection from the antibiotics and I don't know what to do. I'm mortified at the idea of taking another medicine. HELP!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar f tn t respond to the drugs that they usually give you for strep throat. So it is possible that you could have it. That is my professional opinion as a clinical microbiologist The only other thing is are your lymph nodes swollen? Could these be what you feel when you swallow? You may have had the original strep throat and then your lymph nodes swelled and that is hat you feel? That with some residual pain from the sore throat? I don't know how bad your throat feels.
Avatar f tn Has anyone been hooked up to antibiotics for strep b while in labor? You can still walk around n go all natural right?
Avatar m tn When I was a child and would get strep throat, my pediatrician would prescribe antibiotics for my mom and dad too as my germs were so strong, LOL, they still are. It did not hurt them any and they did not get my strep. So, I think it is all up to the individual. Immunity usually develops if you take something for a long period. I would ask your doctor if you are concerned about this however. Enjoy your trip.
1672333 tn?1416694918 On a personal note I had a non Group A streptoccous infection that was usually a type that causes sore throat that would be negative on a strep test because the strep test only checks for group A strep (Streptoccous pyogenes) it was a group C and I woke with it and within hours I had a very high fever, extremely exhausted, and both of my tonsils were solidly covered with pus. I could barely drive a few blocks to get to the doctor. He had to give me two shots of Azithromax and a Zpack.
Avatar f tn I have kaiser so I have an app that sends all my test results to my phone. Just gt my strep b results and I tested positive. I don't have another appointment for two weeks so I was wondering if anyone know what that means? Why it happens? Or what happens now?
Avatar f tn I thought it got better but the strep actually spread to my blood stream and I had to take antibiotics for months.
Avatar n tn Hi everyone - We recommend that you take antibiotics for strep, as untreated strep can result in some serious complications. If you choose not to, please keep an eye on any symptoms and an open line of communication with your doctor.
Avatar m tn t thing strep would cause your tongue to burn though. If you have been on strong antibiotics, especially if it has been a long course, you could have a thrush infection starting. I would recommend that you gargle with a warm salt water solution to kill the thrush yeast. Feel better.
Avatar f tn The urologist felt I was better off without antibiotics. Is it possible for the strep to go away just from flushing it out with plenty of water? Is there a vaginal cream that can clear it up? I feel hit in the vaginal area.
Avatar m tn Monday 9am went to doctor, rapid test for flu - negative. He advised strep or bacterial infection, then proceeded and gave me a shot of antibiotics and advised I lay in tub with warm water to alleviate muscle pains. took nap around noon, woke up at 5pm muscle pains and fever started subsiding. Called doctor to thank him. By Tuesday, was feeling much better with slight sore throat that started Monday, not Sunday. (Fever and Muscle Aches gone). Wednesday was back to normal. Recap.
Avatar f tn Uhm question mommieagain I was under the impression it never guess away bc there is no permanent cure for it. Antibiotics only v temporarily fight it off making it safe for baby to come thru birth canal.
550943 tn?1330727580 i was on antibiotics for a urinary track infection with my first pregnancy. There's nothing to wrry about. the doctor wouldn't give anyhting to you if you, or your baby were at risk. Hope you get better soon.
5265255 tn?1375320805 t worry the iv is fast delivery for antibotics I never got the results for my strep b test because I had to be induced that day. I was 35 weeks with preeclampsia. They put me on antibiotics and my baby was fine.
Avatar n tn Here is what I ended up doing: 2 days on cipro (couldn't sleep, but seemed to work) 5 days on doxycycline (didn't work) 2 days back on cipro (again couldn't sleep, also didn't work) 4 days on bactrim (didn't do much) 10 more days on bactrim + flagyl So basically 3+ weeks of antimicrobials. I have never taken Flomax and nobody has suggested it. I'm not sure what lifestyle changes I could make, other than perhaps having more regular ejaculations.
Avatar n tn He has taken a multitude of oral antibiotics --Amoxil 875 Mg 2x day for 14 days, to straight penicillin, Rifampin 300 Mg 2x day for 10 days, Clindamycin. Nothing seems to rid him of these nodules or lower his ASO titer. Overall crummy feeling most of the time. Headaches, leg aches, joint aches, back ache, neck ache. I am now being told he may have an autoimmune disorder. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I've had a cough and sore throat for about 2 days now but all of a sudden the sore throat became so bad that I lost my voice, I'm having trouble swallowing, low fever (101.1), achy, chills, loss of appetite, runny nose, swollen tonsils, white spots of the tonsils, and grey-ish tongue (tried brushing my tongue for awhile and it doesn't change colors).
Avatar f tn I have strep b. I got the antibiotics both pregnancies and will again with this one. Its no biggie.
