Since the extraction last week, she has been in severe pain not only where the tooth was, but also along her jaw, up the side of her face, in her neck as well as having headaches from the pain. She went back to the free clinic thinking maybe there was still an infection present. The doctor saw no signs and said he thinks it is an exposed nerve. He did give her another course of antibiotics just in case. What can be done about this problem?
I am wondering if perhaps this pain I am feeling is from the antibiotics or could it just be that I have been emotionally strained these past few days. I have been sleeping late too. Or could it just be that I have thyroid cancer?
Usually they give patients antibiotics and pain medications. Some pain and swelling are to be expected, but if you think it's more than expected or you are not on antibiotics, give the dentist a call to report your symptoms.
I had a 2 fillings performed on an upper tooth on about a little over a month ago. Before I went in for the filling, I'd been having terrible tooth pain and had developed an abscess on the gum above that tooth. At the same time, I was experiencing a pressure/pulling sensation down my jaw, around my ear and down my neck. I was first given a round of antibiotics, and the pain, abscess and pressure/pulling sensation all went away.
I had a partial root canal done and just got an infection. I got amoxiclav antibiotics, took two of them and now I'm in a lot of pain and my bottom jaw/cheek is hard as a rock. My dentist appointment is in 2 weeks but I want to know how long for the swelling to go down and how long for the pills to start working? Please help, and hopefully I can get an answer soon. The pain lessened but was still noticeable since beginning the antibiotic (amoxicillin). This morning I woke up with the pain mostly gone from the tooth; however, my jaw is now swollen with what feels like a hard lump and is sensitive to being touched.

As long as the upper jaw gum closed up completely in about 1 week, the lower one was not healed at all so that doctor recommended to take antibiotics. The course of antibiotics did not help a lot and in March 2012 they diagnosed a low jaw bone osteomyelitis. The doctor continued the antibiotic therapy followed by lab tests. In the middle of April 2012 the histological Lab test result showed up the benign tumor.
This morning my whole L lower jaw and lip are swollen and painful to the touch, inside and out. I want to find out what this is, have it treated and get something for the excruciating pain. I can't tell if this is dental or cyst/infection related and therefore don't know who to call, doctor or dentist. Neither are in the office yet. Can you make any suggestions?

The most likely cause for pain along the jaw - if you have ruled out dental pain - is, indeed, Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN). The pain of TN can be one of the most severe pains known. This usually indicates an MS lesion somewhere from the brainstem to along the Trigeminal nerve which is one of the Cranial nerves.
It usually is severe stabbing pains which come with some sort of stimulation.
i went to the ER on Sunday night for severe pain in all teeth in lower right jaw, and aching pain up into ear. i was prescribed 500mg penicillin and Vicodin and told to get to dentist ASAP. i ended up with a terrible chest cold, fever and runny nose beginning the next morning. i delayed calling the dentist figuring no one would do dental work on someone under those conditions. i now have an appointment at the dentist for Thursday19th.
I am a 17 years old girl. four months ago i started experiencing neck pain that wouldnt go away. A g.p prescribed antibiotics for it, then muscle relaxants and then calcium and vitamin supplements but to no avail.
note: ialso have tmj.My tmj only causes me to not be able to open my mouth completely. A jaw specialist recommended that i undergo orthodontic treatment for it. Now i've had braces for almost a year.

December 17 2019 my molar # 31 filling fell. I didn't have any pain. I went to dentist and she did filling and that was it. 1 week later, I started to have pain in the jaw area that extended to the ear. I went back to that dentist. She took x ray and said she can't see anything and she referred me to endodentist. The endodentist also took X-ray and said the filling was close to nerve and needed root canal. I did root canal on 3 December 2020.
I knew it was coming in and then a couple of days ago it started to swell up and really started to hurt and my jaw was sore. So I started some antiobiotics that I had around the house(amoxicilin). Well the swelling went down but my jaw is still sore and I think one of my lymph nodes are swollen. Do you think that I should stay on the antibiotics a little while longer before going into the dentist.
The problem is, now two days after the root canaling, the sweeling has increased, should I be concerned, regarding the antibiotics not be working . As my jaw is swelling up.
say it was abcessed and needed a root canal, the antibiotics will only take the pain and infection away for a while but until the tooth is fixed youll have continuting issues. Ive never heard of numbness like that? sounds like nerve issues? like I said call you dds pronto and tell them what happened and they might send you to a specialist.
