Antibiotics for abcessed tooth

Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics for abcessed tooth

antibiotics

Avatar n tn My partner was having severe pain from an abcessed tooth. However, she has no dental insurance and is unemployed and the free dental clinic was not taking patients. The doctor at the free clinic thought she had 4 abcessed teeth and prescribed antibiotics to help with the infection until she could get to a dentist. She was finally able to get into the sliding scale clinic about a week later. The dentist said that he only saw 1 abcess and removed the tooth.
Avatar n tn Other than the swollen gland (which got better) I have no pain from the tooth. How do I know for certain that this tooth needs all this work? Is is possible for the abcess to heal and the tooth to correct itself? In other words, once a tooth has an abcess are there no other options other than to do a root canal and crown on the tooth? Or can the abcess be treated and the tooth left alone once the abcess is cured?
Avatar n tn my sister has an abcessed tooth in which she has yet to finish a round of antibiotics. I know that if you use antibiotic too much your body can build up a resistance to them and not work properly. She does not have health insurance and right now her face is severly swollen. she has said everytime she goes to the hospital (3x) all they do is give her antibiotics and send her home. She really need some help.
Avatar f tn Just recently I had an absessed tooth, for which I got antibiotics for. One night I bit into a piece of an apple right on the side of my bad tooth, and somthing didnt feel right. My whole lower jaw swelled and my mouth was in so much pain. Needless to say I noticed my lower left side of my lip and jaw/cheek became numb, and has been numb since. The swelling finally went down, but I can still feel like a hard bump in my lower jaw bone.
Avatar n tn I've had a problem with an abcessed lower molar for over a year. I have a fear of dentists so I just kept taking antibiotics and have avoided going to the drs. Last week I had a huge white puss bubble on the side of my gum. I pushed on it and it felt like it popped. Since then I have the worst chills, then sweats,I'm dizzy, nauseas,my neck hurts to where I cant turn my head,i'm weak and I have yet to sleep more then 4 hours a night.
Avatar n tn Your tooth probably was abcessed, and an abcessed tooth is never pulled until antibiotics have resolved the infection. Also, novacaine does no good with an abcess, if absolutely necessary to extract an abcessed tooth, then you must be put to sleep. So, you are correct, it was all pain you were feeling! Sounds like a lousy dentist you had!!!! Pain and odor is usually associated with infection. I would get another dentists opinion just to be on the safe side.
Avatar n tn I have a 9 yr old simese cat that has an abcessed tooth, when we took him to the vet, they wanted $700.00 to put him to sleep and pull his tooth. I have no pet insurance and on a very limited fixed income and can't afford that kind of expense. He has developed a large cyst on the side of his jaw/neck where that tooth is located. He can only eat soft food now, and even at that, he's loosing weight. I can't sit by and let him starve to death because I can't afford to fix his tooth.
Avatar n tn Hello there, Perhaps the tramadol and the amoxile were too strong a pain reliever for your stomach. You say your tooth is abcessed. You need to get it fixed. The last thing you want is an infection or complications. I advise you strongly to get it fixed.
Avatar m tn I had a root canal done about 2 months ago on a badly abcessed tooth (dentist drilled out the tooth to release the pressure and then gave me antibiotics before proceeding with the actual root canal). All was good until a couple of weeks ago - the root canal tooth now goes "numb" (similiar to feeling once the anaesthetic starts to wear off) and I can bite down on it - touching the tooth "hurts". I am also having numbness running along my jaw into my ear.
Avatar n tn I have an abscessed tooth and its in my gums on bottom, been on antibiotics, painkiller for five days, swollen and big lump on jaw. Dentist wont lance it because it still hasn't come up to a head yet. Should I go to ER, or just give it more time?
14987752 tn?1437741703 I had an abcessed tooth removed on Monday July 20. I am taking Amoxicillin 875 - 125. It is now Friday July 24. I can still hardly open my mouth. What should I do to help the process of allowing me to open my mouth and redice swelling? This discussion is related to <a href="/posts/Dental-Health/tooth-abscess/show/1085359">tooth abscess</a>.
Avatar f tn They will prob put u on antibiotics and u will have to have the tooth removed unless u can pay for a rct. Once the cavity reaches the nerve of the tooth then only a rct or pulling it r ur only options :( I'm sorry. I know that tooth pain really sux!!
Avatar n tn m no dentist, but I have had the opprotunity to be a dental assistant for the past 11 yrs. for 2 yrs I worked for a prosthodontist and saw lots of implant patients. The only thing I could think of was that maybe the babytooth she had removed was having a problem and had maybe contaminated the site when the tooth was extracted. Which was maybe just enough to get it agrovated. Then when the implant was placed the socket was contaminated.
Avatar f tn Found out its an abcess and my wisdom tooth is trying to come in but is stuck again the infected tooth. Was given antibiotics and Norco. Kind of worried about the Norco was told its safe because its a low dose.
Avatar f tn I also seem to have an abcessed tooth. I have not yet been to the dentist and my face is swollen & very, very painful. Haven't even been able to eat really. I have been doing salt water and even peroxide swills, and have found two Levaquin pills lying around which I took. I cannot get to the dentist as it is the weekend and I actually have financial issues as well.
Avatar n tn If a tooth is abcessed you need to be on antibiotics for at least a week to clear it up....because infection can spread and nothing will numb an abcessed tooth. You should have NO pain when the nerve has been removed properly. Don't go back to this dentist, find a new one and have your records sent to the new one. I can only imagine your frustration and pain which should never have occurred. Good luck and take care.
Avatar n tn Obviously, I don't know the extent of the abscess either, other than my own limited views of my xrays. Since Penicillin hasn't seemed to get it well under control, they've decided to switch me Clindamycin instead.
Avatar n tn You should start to see improvement by day 4. They will not extract an abcessed tooth and this is why they have you on an antibiotic and a medication to make the abcess start draining. Patience is needed right now, you'll be okay. Take care.
Avatar f tn Red cross. I deal with severe tooth aches every day. & that is amazing. I see dentist Wednesday for tooth extraction.
Avatar m tn You can't, as it is infection causing the swelling. Try calling your GP and tell them your situation and see if they will give you an script for antibiotics. The dentist won't touch it while it's abcessed, and would put you on antibiotics to clear up the infection before doing anything with the tooth. If you have a regular dentist, I would think they would also write the script, since this will be thier first step anyway.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know how long it takes for swollen lymph nodes in the neck to go down after an abcessed tooth was pulled? It has been one week, I still have some discomfort, pain in my neck, etc.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone! Yesterday I had a molar that was abcessed extracted. The dentist sent me home with antibiotics and gauze for bleeding. Today I notice there a bump in the tooth socket, It's about the size and level as the rest of the teeth. Could the clot get that big or is it possibly gauze stuck in there or something else? Thanks!
Avatar n tn The dentist took an x-ray and said the tooth was abcessed and the tooth needed to be pulled. When she was pulling the tooth, I was in excrutiating pain, and she said there was a pus discharge and my gums were turning black and blue. My questions are: Should I have been given antibiotics first, and then come back in a few days to have the tooth pulled, after the initial infection that I complained about had been given time to clear up?
Avatar m tn It is entirely possible for your throat to feel swollen as it probably is! If you have a tooth abcess, the bacteria will cause the lymph nodes in your neck to try and fight the infection. They swell and become very painful. I understand your anxiety about dentists.........so many people feel the way you do and there are dentist out there who deal specifically with people who have dental anxiety.
652079 tn?1224157766 I had an abcessed tooth pulled on Monday. I didnt know the tooth was abcessed and I slept with a heating pad on my face for 2 nights (or tried to sleep). At the dentist office, yes, I got slapped on the hand for the "heating pad" thats a NO NO... to anyone that doesnt know. He pulled the tooth with no problem, said it was the easiest extraction all day. That night, I had throbbing pain, at my check bone. It went away after applying an ice pack.
Avatar n tn The gums swelled up, so I went to the dentist. There was an abcessed tooth, so the Dentist pulled the tooth. The lump on my gums stayed swollen, so the Dentist took two additional x-rays of my mouth 2 and 3 weeks later and said the other teeth were fine and he wasn't sure what to make of it. He wanted me to wait and see if the swelling resided.
Avatar f tn s per day, for 10 days. Took more xrays, discovered tooth #5 badly abcessed, dentist said had been this way for some time. Started RCT on that tooth mid March, more antibiotics, same regiment, finished script headaches returned. Filled another script, headaches went away Went to endo for 2nd opinion, he said that #5 had a hopeless vertical fracture and needed to be extracted. Had tooth extracted April 12th, antibiotics finished 10 days ago, headaches back.
