Avatar n tn However, the hair follicles are not destroyed and hair growth continues after inflammation subsides. Folliculitis may cause hair loss and is caused by a virus, fungus, or yeast. Sometimes a skin biopsy is conducted to confirm the diagnosis. Treatment options include corticosteroids, antifungal medication, isotretinoin, antibiotics like bacitracin and neomycin or a combination therapy using minoxidil and anthralin. Avatar f tn I was admitted to the hospital, and spent 5 days there recovering on a whole slew of antibiotics. I came home on antibiotics and NO HAIR LOSS. I mean, it was like turning off a switch. I went from fistfuls to absolutely nothing. This was just before Thanksgiving. I stayed this way until mid February. I lost NO hair, after losing so much day after day after day. Right around Valentines Day, it came back with a vengeance.
Avatar n tn m 18 years old and for the past year or so I have been noticing the very slight but continual loss of hair on the top of my head. I have been on various antibiotics for acne for about 2 years. Now, this slow loss of hair is becoming somewhat visible to me, whereas before my hair still seemed fairly thick. This does not follow the typical male-pattern baldness. Instead, my hair has thinned evenly over the entire top of my head, and also on the sides of my head like near my ears.

Avatar m tn Excessive shedding continues, still hair on pillows every morning. By May, hair loss becomes visible and concentrated on the temple regions, although there has been diffuse thinning all over top area of head. Not visible loss on the crown, but temple regions has thinned considerably and all the way back to the mid section of scalp. In May, I change hairstyle to mask the hair loss.
Avatar n tn The only way to tell for sure is to have him examined by a veterinarian. Around the ears and eyes is commonly the first place for hair loss to occur in cases of mange, and a dog doesn't have to have been in contact with other dogs to get mange. The mites that cause mange live on all dogs at all times, but sometimes if the dog is ill or old or stressed over something, the mites start to multiply out of control and that's when problems start.

Avatar n tn for blood pressure. I have experienced hair loss for 3 mos. Which, if any, of those meds could cause hair loss?
Avatar m tn While stress is a known culprit for hair loss, the loss of hair can also be due to anemia, male pattern of hair loss (due to your age and hormonal and genetic factors) or due to a scalp condition such as dermatitis or dandruff. Sometimes low testosterone too causes hair loss. Hence, these conditions should be ruled out too. If your thinning of hairs is mainly affecting the top of head and the temple area, then probably you have male pattern of baldness.
Avatar m tn Have you noticed any other symptoms of being hypo? Certainly your family history and your hair loss suggests the possibility. This needs to be followed up with additional testing. TSH is a pituitary hormone that is inadequate as a diagnostic for hypothyroidism. At best it is an indicator to be considered along with other more important indicators which are symptoms, as well as levels of the actual biologically active thyroid hormones, free T3 and free T4.
Avatar f tn I have been experiencing hair loss for a few years. Since Levothyroxin. No chance to stop taking it since I need the replacement after having a full Thyroidectomy. Anyone who has experienced the same? Any possible suggestions?

Avatar m tn Prednisone causes hair loss. This may not be true if it is used to cause an infection that results in hair loss. It most certainly cannot regrow hair if you have thyroid and adrenal malfunctions. I used prednisone and inhaled steroids and for COPD, It not only resulted in hair loss, but CAUSED me to have an adrenal problem. I got off that junk and now rely on natural anti-inflammatories.

Avatar n tn These are the same medication, one generic, one not. Hair loss is not a side effect of this medication. But I think it may be a clue to what may be causing your depression. See an Endocrinologist and have your thyroid checked (don't have it done by your GP). If your thyroid is not working properly it not only causes hair loss but depression! I wish you all the best and take care.
1464587 tn?1307491605 What meds are you on? Also, someone commented here recently (ewford?) about some types of infections that sometimes accompany Lyme (mycoplasma?) can cause termporary hair loss. You might try to search this forum for 'hair loss' if no one pops up with an answer. Sorry not to be more helpful.
