I have severe alleregies to antibiotics. After taking one Bactrim I had a fever 102, a rash, and severe bone pain, especially in my joints. My knees and neck hurt the most. I only took 2 more bactrim (3 altoghter) then I stopped. I went back to the doctor today (Friday). He wrote me out a different prescription for antibiotics and didn't have to lance the place, b/c it is healing. I am still having bad pains in my hands, feet, hips, ribs, upper back, and especailly my knees and neck.
Since your symptoms persist in spite of treatment with antibiotics, I do not see pursuing treatment with further antibiotics without finding urine or semen that is infected. A second opinion from a urologist with a particular interest in chronic pelvic pain syndrome would be my recommendation. As well as two fluconazole tablets to take after I had completed the antibiotic treatment in case of potential yeast overgrowth while on the antibiotics. But…the Bactrim seems to have worked based on the much lower white blood cell count in my urine and significantly lessened symptoms. And he said if it was an STD, the Bactrim wouldn’t have done anything.
I guess I am just looking for some guidance.

The pro air inhaler made my mouth really dry and I believe it combined with the antibiotics gave me oral thrush. I’ve been prescribed bactrim before and the previous time last year when I had swollen testicles it relieved the pain. At that time I didn’t have an STD at all and was done with the pain in two weeks. I am almost done with my bactrim prescription and I have some testicle pain but I did masturbate a couple days ago prior to that I had none.
could the Bactrim be causing me to feel so tired (no rash or jaundice or anything listed in the serious side effects portion of the pamphlet that came with the Bactrim)? Also, after 5 days of Bactrim should symptoms of a prostate infection be improving?
I am hesitant to call my Dr. about my possible reaction to the Bactrim because I don't want to become labeled a "difficult patient". Any advice you could offer would be great.
A few months ago, before getting my lyme diagnosis, I had a severe herx reaction to oral Bactrim. I took it twice and an hour after taking it I started having stroke like symptoms. My heart started racing, II got a strange purple rash, I had difficulty walking and couldn't remember what year it was. Now I know that this was actually a herx reaction, but it stumped the ER doctors at the time.
Diagnosed with cellulitis. I took bactrim 5 1/2 days and then had allergic reaction - burning, needle like, numbing feelings, swelling. Also a few chills. I was told to take benadryl every 4-6hrs, pepcid twice a day. Saw dr. the next day. Was given clindamycin 150mg 4x day and took that for 2 1/2 days and was told to stop because I continued with bad reactions. I am afraid that the bacteria was not killed and will return. What do you all think?
I was diagnosed with a prostate infection and im taking Bactrim for it, but I think its more urethritis and I know they prescribe azithromycin for that...
hi since may of this year, i have been on the following, keflex twice(70 pills total), cipro twice (40 pills total), azthromycin twice (8 pills total), doxycycline (40 pills total), bactrim(30 pills) and 3 rocephin shots). would that be why for the past few months i have had yeast/fungal issues, they come and go in my groin and under stomach and arm area, and little yeast bumps on body?
I had celluitis a few weeks back. Was very allergic to the antibiotics. Tried another and still having reactions so they had me stop all antibiotics. The original area is no longer swollen, red or tender. If the drugs didn't kill it can it come back in a different area or just in the same spot.

Instead of treating the bacteria they give him one large dose of Bactrim antibiotics and he vomited out after couple of hrs and had severe allergic reaction from it.

I have MRSA (found through colonization of urine due to UTI). I have had chronic UTI's for years now and my dr just treats them with antibiotics everytime and does an ultrasound to make sure nothing serious going on in there like cancer or kidney disease. I do not have a skin infection....I am experiencing UTI symptoms, fatigue, my whole body is very sore and achy especially my neck and shoulders and lower back. Have been through 2 weeks of Bactrim DS and three days after I finished meds..
I am taking bactrim for a UTI. I also have a sore throat. No scratchiness or raw feeling. It just hurts to swallow. (Like when a piece of potato chip gets stuck going down.) Doctor yesterday took a swab but said bactrim doesn't work for upper respiratory infections. However, she didn't give me an other antibiotic. I don't have fever. But she said the bactrim may be preventing me from having fever. When I looked on line, it said that bactrim is prescribed for upper respiratory.
I have tried single dose azithromycin and doxycycline 2x/day for 24 days with no improvement. My doctor recently prescribed me bactrim. I suspect that this may be caused by persistent ureaplasma and/or mycoplasma. Will the Bactrim treat this? If no should I test for ureaplasma/mycoplasma? What antibiotic should I take?
I have a question about antibiotics. Since 2001, I have what I thought was an allergy to Cipro. Took it for an upper respitory infection for 3 days and had terrible problems. The Dr then gave me Levaquin, took for 7 days, with the same side effects. Just this past winter, I had a UTI that wouldn't go away and was treated with Biaxin and another abx (I can't remember which one, I have to look...maybe Ceftin) and had a bad reaction to both of them.
In my vaginal area inside my urethra, I recently discovered that I have a UTI and was prescribed the drug Bactrim. I am suppose to take it twice a day for 3 days. Anyway, I have a history of being allergic to antibiotics and getting the "rare" side effects. I was reading the side effects of Bactrim and I am horrified and super worried! i had gone through this years ago and was told it was a side effect of the antibiotics and that i had a male yeast infection. i also felt very itchy from the bactrim on my hands feet and genitals. i returned to the doctor telling him of the past and present incident and he told me he thought i had herpies even though iv read that antibiotics would not cause herpies to appear. i have now missed a week of work and am not any better and can not work with this painful condition. please help.
Hi, antibiotics have no effect on virues including herpes so would no interfer with any test results.
I took approximatley 3 different courses of Bactrim over that time period. Every time I took Bactrim, I had the same allergy, inflammation on the head of the penis. I finally put it together that this allergy occurred when I took Bactrim. Needless to say, whenever I am asked be medical personnel if I am allergic to any meds, Bactrim goes on the list.
