Avatar n tn If your report says that your bilirubin is high, then you probably have jaundice (jaundice is the accumulation of bilirubin under the skin) and some type of liver disease that needs further testing and diagnosis. My two cents. Take care and God bless.
Avatar f tn His blood culture report showed the presence of a resistant bacteria high dosage of injectible antibiotics were given, but the fever persisted. Then a bile culture was done and that too showed the presence of another bacteria... another round of extremely heavy antibiotics were given. As of now the fever is not there but he is extremely weak and is barely eating. He says he is overfull. Before his bile culture he also had mild ascites, fluid in his abdominal cavity which was tapped.

Avatar n tn Was the antibiotic Bactrim by chance? A few antibiotics are quite horrible on the liver and, if it was already stressed from something else, it may have become inflamed and swollen (hepatitis) or may have briefly started to fail. Have you been checked for chronic Hepatitis C? It can be symptomless yet create all kinds of problems like thyroid problems, hypoglycemia, diabetes, and kidney problems. It can also affect memory and energy levels, as well as GI problems.
Avatar f tn Husband has COPD and liver disease - it's quite advanced and, as he didn't heed the doctors and only cut down on drinking, he is not in line for transplant.
Avatar f tn I dont think that having c.diff will effect your Hep C, as in: making it worse, but when you go to your Doctor, and he prescribes a medicine for you, always remind him that you have Hep C,and ask if the med is "liver friendly". Some antibiotics are more liver friendly than others, and other categories of medicines that goes for also. Never assume the Doctor will remember everything about us, they see many patients per day, and better safe then sorry.

Avatar f tn from the bite. So Monday went to GP and he put me on antibiotics for 7 days as a precaution. I have not been tested for Lymes yet because he said you need to wait a couple of weeks before the blood test. Now my question is.....If I were to have Lymes Disease would this prevent treatment for Hep C? I will be seeing my liver specialist this Friday and was hoping to get into treatment ASAP if it was appropriate timing. I hope everyone has a great day!

Avatar m tn The liver conditions are hemochromatosis, methotrexate- or amiodarone-induced hepatic injury, chronic hepatitis C virus infection, post-jejuno-ileal bypass and nonalcoholic and alcoholic fatty liver disease. Other conditions like celiac disease, Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, Adrenal insufficiency and certain antibiotics use can increase the level marginally. You need to consult gastroenterologist for assessment of SGPT levels. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn Look for lines within the label info that refer to liver or hepatic. If there is any knowledge that a drug can harm the liver it will be on the label. You can easily come across a line on some drug labels that warns about treating patients with "hepatic impairment" (means liver damage). That warning usually just refers to folks with liver damage requiring a lower dose for effective treatment and should not be of concern.
Avatar m tn Early symptoms of liver damage include yellowed eyes and skin (jaundice), fatigue, and dark urine. If you decide to take kava, despite warnings to the contrary, be sure to get frequent liver function tests." I hope there are safe ways to take it (modified?) and that's what you take.

Avatar n tn Offlate (period of 1 month) I have a feeling that my stomach is always full/ bloated up just after eating a very brief Indian meal (roti-1, rice- a small bowl, lentil, chicken curry), and often I dont get any urge for eating another meal in due course. About 4 weeks earlier I had a dysentery and was under antibiotics care (course ended 3 weeks earlier). The problem surfaced after that majorly, but was experiencing the same even before the disease.
Avatar n tn I have read that both the thckening of the cords and red palms (Palmar Erythema) have to do liver disease and cirrhosis. Why not Google Liver disease and red palms. I would have embedded it here but I'm not sure how you do that. Best...
Avatar n tn They should also be looking for Celiac's (wheat allergy) and heart disease and other liver disease like liver cancer. I had 7 other tests done for cause of high enzymes when I was diagnosed with hepatitis, including iron to be sure liver was not storing it.
11732076 tn?1420699095 Your cat needs to see a vet asap! Your cat needs antibiotics to recover. You also need to do everything you can to make sure she eats something. You don't want to go there with liver disease, it can be deadly. Try to get some baby food(turkey, ham, chicken), chicken broth, and human tuna. Those are my go-to's when I've had sick kitties.
Avatar n tn Plasma levels of aspartate and alanine aminotransferases (AST [SGOT] and ALT [SGPT]) are routinely measured to assess liver function. Normally SGPT level is below 40 IU/L. SGPT and SGOT is marker of liver diseases or liver conditions. The liver conditions are hemochromatosis, methotrexate- or amiodarone-induced hepatic injury, chronic hepatitis C virus infection, post-jejuno-ileal bypass and nonalcoholic and alcoholic fatty liver disease.
3165168 tn?1343857471 Both ALP and GGT are elevated in disease of the bile ducts and in some liver diseases, but only ALP will be elevated in bone disease. If the GGT level is normal in a person with a high ALP, the cause is most likely bone disease. The GGT test is sometimes used to help detect liver disease and bile duct obstructions. It is usually ordered in conjunction with or as follow up to other liver tests such as ALT, AST, ALP, and bilirubin.
