WOW! You sure are a great doggy parent in that your pup has lived to the ripe old age of 15. So far, all 3 of the dogs I've lost never quite made it to 14, so my hat's off to you. :-) With the previous hip injury, it's pretty obvious that the problem is arthritis that has finally reached the crippling point. Glucosamine can only do so much. Dogs are a whole lot more stoic about pain than humans are, and I can about bet you with 100% certainly that your dog IS hurting.

I am 60 and noticing my teeth are more transparent. There are products that advertise they will restore lost dentin. Anybody tried them?

She has started soiling her bed at night and he is cleaning up stool 3 - 4 times daily. Vet has been little help. Is this a natural part of her aging? Are there ways to improve this? She does not seem to realize she is "doing it wrong" by going inside versus outside, although she was fully housebroken until several months ago. He is so very torn because she seems to be a happy dog, but he does no know if this is a signal he should put her down. Any advice?

I'm reading about so many dogs that get kidney failure. It almost seems like an epidemic!, and it's such a devastating thing to happen. Does anyone know if it possible to prevent it? I do know that my vets have recommended virgin coconut oil due to its anti-viral and anti- protazoan properties for my dogs with coccidia and other stomach ailments, knocks it right out. It also regulates the thyroid, I've spoken to a rescue center about this and she has gotten several dogs off of thyroid meds with this successfully. It won't hurt you (unless you have a coconut allergy), so why the hell not try it.

If your dog has severe arthritis, you really need to get a prescription anti-inflammatory like rimadyl or deramaxx. I had two dogs who took those medications for years with absolutely no trouble. The deramaxx is more expensive, but it also worked when the rimadyl was no longer effective. Unless your dog is extremely crippled, mild exercise like short walks or swimming can help keep him going longer with fewer symptoms. Strong muscles can take some pressure off the bones and joints.
