Avatar n tn Don't know what 7stone is, but yes I agree with angelica. If you are below that, yes you can get some serious problems from being underweight -- malnourishment, which can cause anemia, vitamin deficiencies, which can affect your heart and your reproductive organs. If you have a problem with anorexia you can die from complications because left untreated it will affect your internal organs.
Avatar f tn So I'm a 16 year old girl, about 5'5' and 110lbs. I'm on a calorie restricting diet and exercising a lot to lose weight. My family doesn't know and I can't talk to them about it due to circumstances i cannot discuss. My one friend who knows about this tells me I'm on the verge of anorexia and people at school are talking about me saying how skinny I'm getting. When people originally told me this I took it as a compliment, now I find it embarrassing.
Avatar f tn Some people need to^ I was very underweight and struggling with anorexia pre-pregnancy so I needed the extra weight for myself and then the pregnancy weight as well. Everyone has their reasonings and some people are actually suggested to by doctors.

Avatar f tn Don't worry, weight gain can be a sign that you are recovering! I gained 15 lbs in the beginning of my recovery from bulimia and then as I started eating meals and snacks regularly (that I figured out with my nutritionists help) and stopped using bulimic symptoms my weight balanced out to my body's needs.
1347708 tn?1276603191 I have gone from 258lbs to 106lbs in 18 months. I am now up again 3 pounds and scared stiff of the weight gain. Can someone please help me with ways to maintain my weight, i am terrified of gaining, but I do recognise I have problems. I am not asking for ways to lose more, just staying the same. Anyone?
Avatar m tn There are many causes of inability to gain weight like worms in stool, depression, anorexia nervosa, AIDS, cancers especially colon cancers, drug abuse, infections and loss of appetite. Loss of appetite can again be due to certain medications, drug abuse, depression, AIDS, acute and chronic infections, cancers and hypothyroidism. Either you do not eat well or there is increased metabolism as in hyperthyroid states, HIV, cancer etc.
Avatar f tn If you live in a developed nation, it's very unlikely with modernized medicine. I was underweight with my first. You need to talk with a doctor and find out how much weight they want you to gain, then try to meet the goal. This is for the best outcome for both baby and you. Remember baby needs you to eat. If you have a medical reason why weight gain is hard, it's even more important for you to see a doctor asap.
Avatar n tn Really depends on individual, from my experience after TT, hormone imbalance never affect my weight, my weight always stayed consistent. But for many others, weight can be an issue, some gaining to much, while others experience rapid weight loss. I know for a fact hormone imbalance can cause weight issues, but not sure the other way around.
Avatar f tn You could have gastric problems, hyperthyroidism and other medical conditions that make it nearly impossible to gain weight, especially if you are TRYING to eat a lot and failing to gain weight.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm in treatment for anorexia and trying Seroquel XR 50mg to help with mood and anxiety. Really scared of the weight gain I've researched associated with it and have a strong history of hypothyroidism and diabetes in the family. Can anyone help?
773368 tn?1235322140 I've had anorexia for about 2 years now. I've been in and out of hospitals. This past year I've had the opportunity to recover by myself, or else I'd be going right back to the hospital. I was maintaining a "danger zone" weight for 6 months. My doctor was finally fed up and told me if I didn't gain any weight, then she'll have no choice but to put me back into a hospital. I was like, **** THAT.
Avatar f tn People who suffer from anorexia nervosa end up having such a vicious cycle of weight gain and weight loss weight gain and weight loss. This is called the binge fasting dangerous dieting (I read it in the book)...from what I notice about my eating disorder is that my eating disorder will make me binge at a certain point so that eventually I won't ever eat again and I'll be sooooo pissed off at food that I'll end up starving myself again. Trust me...
5221069 tn?1366618397 You have made a lot of assumptions here, Billie37. I don't have weight issues any longer, I got myself healthy so that I could have children. Also, not everyone just get pregnant once they sort out their weight issues - sometimes premature ovarian failure can occur with a long term eating disorder, in which case, it doesn't matter how healthy you become or how much weight you gain, you won't ovulate for the rest of your life. I said i DID have anorexia and that I was healthy today.
1493846 tn?1288667701 I am not afraid of gaining weight as is the case with anorexia but rather I would like to gain weight and fear for my health if I cannot fix what ever is going on with my body. My symptoms (I have also been diagnosed with a galaxy of different disorders such as aspbergers and bipolar depression) include: -Loss of appetite -Depression -Anxiety -Psychosis (referred to the questioning of reality) -Circulation issues (cold hands, feet, etc.
Avatar m tn topamax is not an atypical antipsychotic rather an off-label anticonvulsant (antiepilepsy) drug to stabilize BP. Strange one of the side effects is anorexia (loss of appetite). The only drug i know which doesn't cause weight gain is lamotrigine. But aside from it all the AC's, lithium, AP's even AD's cause weight gain. In short all BP drugs increase weight. That's a price we pay. I recall once Oprah had a program for BP and all the guests were rather heavy weight persons.
Avatar n tn Abnormal LFT is often found associated with this disorder. Some gain in weight will restore these enzyme levels. They are a sign f the distress your body is under. Get an upper abdomen ultrasound done to rule out gall stones. This could also be causing the pain. Also the ultrasound will be able to catch fatty liver or liver enlargement. Many deficiencies like Vitamin B12 and Vit D too could have occurred. Get a chest X-ray done to rule out any chest pathology.

Avatar f tn About a month ago I had an EKG done saying that my heart rate was a little low, I'm 18 5'10 and 116lbs. I'm underweight but currently on a weight gain diet, and have just recently made major changes to my eating habits. Until yesterday I've felt fine, but started having chest pains and breathing seems a little more difficult than usual. It's gone off and on since yesterday. Should I be concerned? Could this also be from eating a lot?
Avatar f tn Self evaluation is unduly influenced by body shape and weight. The disturbance does not occur exclusively during episodes of anorexia nervosa. Type Purging type: During the current episode of bulimia nervosa, the person has regularly engaged in self-induced vomiting or the misuse of laxatives, diuretics, or enemas.
638373 tn?1249407969 t have the wisdom to answer the question you ask but I do know that many medicines cause weight gain. I am taking one that has cause me to gain weight too so I know how frustrating it is. But I would never go back to the hell I was in before I started my antidrpressant, Effexor. It's not worth it. I'd rather be a little more heavy and have peace of mind than to be thin and look great but be miserable.
