anorexia

Avatar m tn Hello. I'm new and terrified for a friend who says she's been diagnosed with Lyme disease. At first, I had no reason to believe otherwise. However, I'm not sure now. She has lost an extreme amount of weight. A couple of years ago when this all began, she was losing weight quickly and couldn't eat anything unless it was pureed. Without going into all the details, she presented all the signs of anorexia and still does.
179856 tn?1333547362 severe anemia, irregular heartbeat, brain aneurism, pancreatitis (pancreas failure), jaundice (yellowing of the skin) due to liver failure (fatal), kidney failure (fatal), massive stroke (fatal), massive heart attack (fatal), and suicide." Very sad to hear if this is true.
Avatar f tn Well first off congrats for your recovery! To answer your question, from personal experience when you starve yourself for a very long time, these symptoms you might be experiencing are common since your body is trying to compensate, meaning that it is now lowering your bmr because it thinks you are going to go through another shortage of fuel. Depending on how long and how severely you starved your body was starved, the symptoms can be more or less severe.

Avatar f tn Yes you can have stomach pain along with many other symptoms. Anorexia and Anorexia Nervosa are actually two different things.. Anorexia is simply not eating, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't WANT to eat, just a lack of eating for whatever reason. Anorexia Nervosa (what people are usually talking about when they use the term Anorexia) is when you don't eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight.
Avatar n tn I'm a 27-year-old female and I "recovered" from severe anorexia after in-patient treatment in 2005. I'm 5'3" tall and weighed in the low 70s before treatment. After treatment, I was eating about 1850 calories a day and weighed just under 100 pounds (still low, I know). I continued eating about that much and exercised a bit more (but not much), and by spring 2006, my weight had dropped for some unknown reason to about 83 pounds. I was secretly pleased but disturbed.
Avatar n tn When you say that she displays many symptoms of anorexia (in spite of eating three meals/day), what do you mean? What are the symptoms you are noticing?
1428559 tn?1283094093 I have severe anxiety disorder. I am on medication for it. I think there's a chance I might be pregnant. I'm wondering if they will have to take me off my meds if I AM pregnant or if they will just prescribe a lower dosage or something else altogther? Also, does anyone else have anxiety/panic disorder and is pregnant? Did you get taken off your meds or were they switched? Is your anxiety worse now that you're pregnant? I'm just really scared about this.
Avatar m tn Hi about three or so years ago I went through a long period of anorexia nervosa, I was checking labels, eating barely any fat foods, always feeling terrible if i aint something unhealthy, and on top of that running 10 miles and working out every day because I thought i was fat. Once then period ended, I immediately began to binge eat at every meal, and would get incredibly bloated and distended (pregnant).
Avatar n tn Yes there are many forms of eating disorders ranching from relatively light to severe. I thinkit would be best to seek help now, these things can get worse and the sooner you deal with it the better in the sense that you can prevent worse.
1310561 tn?1285863461 Are you crazy? You are obviously not smart for your age. Anorexia can cause some severe damage on your body. If you don't give your body the nutrients it needs long time effects will come. Then you'll just look really nasty and skinny, and that is not attractive for anyone. So if thats what your going for, to look good, you're just making yourself look worse. Try a diet or exercising don't put your body through that!!
Avatar n tn Hi. Would your friend consider joining this forum? Many of us here have suffered from anorexia, severe depression, suicidal attempts and cutting; it's all a part of self hatred. Perhaps if she joined the forum, someone may help her. Ya think she would?
Avatar f tn It sounds like you have a very severe eating disorder. The symptoms that you are describing are normal for someone who has an eating disorder. You have suffered from this for a long time. Unfortunetly your body is repsonding to this. It can be fixed though. You need to get some help. Rehab would be great if you are able to, if not please look into anorexia and bulimic meetings in your city. When your body does not have enough fat on it, this will cause you not to have your period.
Avatar n tn I'm recently in recovery from 11yrs of anorexia. I have severe osteoporosis as a result. I am 22 years old. I was put on birth control for the estrogen to help replenish my bones, and return my period. (I do not menstruate without the pill) I have doubts of my being able to actually carry a child in the future, but was considering a surrogate mother. Is there anyway to tell if I'm even producing eggs anymore? Is a surrogate, with my egg and husband's sperm possible?
639751 tn?1223570892 Anorexia is a disease with trauma, severe anxiety, body dysmorphic disorder, extreme fear, self loathing, and irrational behaviors. When you have anorexia, you are both terrifyed of, and obsessed with food. I used to cook so much for my boyfriend, his friends, my family, etc. I would look online at recipes. If I was hungry, I would avoid any place with food. Anorexia made me miss my 8th grade year, and much of Highschool.
Avatar f tn Yes, that is what it is. You are showing anorexic symptoms and it will only get worse. Talk to a counselor at school, your doctor, or another trusted adult and have them refer you to a therapist experienced with eating disorders. Your ED is related to how you feel about yourself and you need help working through both so you can go on to live a good life. Please do it soon.
918035 tn?1274644533 From what you have written in your post, I think you are still experiencing some symptoms of Anorexia. The best thing to do with this disorder is to consult a psychologist that could make counseling with you so that doctors may find the appropriate treatment to your illness.
Avatar f tn i suffered from anorexia an still have blips from time to time is this the cause of my PCOS? have i caused my infertility???
918035 tn?1274644533 You have many symptoms of anorexia. Anorexia is not about the food, it's about underlying issues that causes a person to go away from food. I will advise you to speak to an adult. Hopefully, you could talk to your mom or dad. You need to get some professional help and support. You need to see a medical doctor just to check on your overall medical condition and growth.
Avatar f tn Dear Meg34, You can go home. Colleges honor Anorexia as a medical withdrawal. With your current symptoms, you need support. You probably need an eating disorder treatment program: outpatient day treatment, residential treatment or possibly inpatient treatment. Go to your campus’ health center for your physical symptoms. Avatar f tn tingling sensation in the medial portion of my right arm all the way down to my pinky, ring, and middle finger. Went to ER with severe chest pain over my heart, dyspnea, confusion, and a BP of 163/118 @ 128 bpm. EKG found nothing. The tingling in my arm turned to numbness. My GP doubled my BP meds and Rx donperidone suspecting an ulcer.
Avatar f tn Anyone with a resting heart rate over 100 should be checked by a doctor, if just over 100, say even 120, I'd say in most cases it can be done on a non-emergency scheduled basis - depending on other symptoms. In your case and in the absence of any specific knowledge about anorexia I can't make a connection, but I suspect anorexia puts stress on one's body and that could be at least part of the driver for the above normal HR.
Avatar f tn I was wondering about the medical and social differences between patients with anorexia and patients with orthorexia, or if generally they are felt to be the same disease?
Avatar f tn Hello dear, Nutritional neuropathy is common in people who are anorexic.Nutritional deficiencies causes nerve symptoms, tingling and burning. You should consult a neurologist and go for a evaluation and get the diagnosis confirmed.
Avatar n tn I donot know anything about anorexia but I do know about OCD. I also know Lexapro works well for me. Our body is made up of vitams and minerals along with all else. The brain has many chemicals. Loss of certain chemicals can be replaced by mood stabilizers or SSRI's which are used to replace serotonin. I am not a doctor but my OCD symptoms have lessened, almost nonexsistent by the use of antiphyscotic drugs to correct the chemical imbalance I have.
7429086 tn?1390769769 But are you sure you are at that point? Even severe anorexia, bipolar and upcoming menopause together are not beyond the help of a good therapist (and of HRT). If your therapist has not been helpful, find another one. There is no rule that you have to stick with the same one. And talk to your doctor about HRT; it will help ease your mind a lot.
