anorexia

554703 tn?1227497870 I never had an eating disorder per say, but years ago during a hard time with my Ex-husband, I didn't eat much and when I did, I only ate things like rice and ham. I lost 39 pounds in 5 weeks and woke up one morning with my heart beating all over the place and was rushed to the ER. Long story short, I was told I was close to joining Karen Carpenter. Karen died from "heartbeat irregularities brought on by chemical (electrolyte) imbalances associated with anorexia nervosa.
Avatar f tn I am a 35 year old woman. I have dealt with "skipped heartbeats" occasionally since I was about 20. But the last week has been HORRIBLE! It's so bad at night that I can't sleep, convinced I'm gonna die. I also have major shortness of breath. Went to the doctor yesterday and mentioned I've been taking a lot of potassium lately "for my health" she said I was killing myself! Apparently potassium can increase dis/arrhythmia if you're already prone to them.
Avatar n tn The EKG findings could be from an electrolyte or mineral imbalance (which is very common with eating disorders) You really need to see someone about your bulimia as it can be very hard and dangerous on your body, also I am sure you use things like laxatives as well which over time can cause changes to your GI tract.
Avatar f tn Yes you can have stomach pain along with many other symptoms. Anorexia and Anorexia Nervosa are actually two different things.. Anorexia is simply not eating, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't WANT to eat, just a lack of eating for whatever reason. Anorexia Nervosa (what people are usually talking about when they use the term Anorexia) is when you don't eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight.
Avatar f tn m asking is that do any of you think that these symptoms could be caused by extreme hormone imbalance? No one has ever tested my hormones before. I find it weird that they all started almost a month to the day I quit birth control. Also, my period was never regular when I was younger, I matured late and would sometimes go 6 months without getting my period. I was also anorexic during high school which didn't help. But I am no longer and eat very healthy.
Avatar f tn i suffered from anorexia an still have blips from time to time is this the cause of my PCOS? have i caused my infertility???
1399363 tn?1462342610 I read about mineral defiency, electrolyte imbalance, hormonal imbalance have something to do with it. Because a lot of people said they experienced that and it has helped them. But how do i know if i have this imbalance situation going on? Which one is high and which one is low and how much should i take? I cant just take all of them (calcium, magnesium, potassium, vit b) because if i ended up getting it too high/imbalance then it will make it worse.

Avatar n tn Hello, Causes of post menopausal bleeding could be ovarian cysts, endometriosis, diseases of pituitary gland, hormonal imbalance of estrogen and progesterone, thyroid hormone imbalance, cervicitis and cervical cancer. Your doctor may consider tests like blood sugar levels, thyroid function test, prolactin, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSA), estrogen, and testosterone. Imaging studies, such as ultrasound, X-ray, and CT scan or MRI brain may also be recommended in certain individuals.
179856 tn?1333547362 t know anything about Portia. I had no idea she suffered from anorexia nervosa. I assumed she had anorexia - eating disorder from any cause - and that is why I assumed the anorexia resulted from her cirrhosis. Now, that I have read the gossip/Oprah stuff I lean more towards Willy's opinion.
Avatar n tn I donot know anything about anorexia but I do know about OCD. I also know Lexapro works well for me. Our body is made up of vitams and minerals along with all else. The brain has many chemicals. Loss of certain chemicals can be replaced by mood stabilizers or SSRI's which are used to replace serotonin. I am not a doctor but my OCD symptoms have lessened, almost nonexsistent by the use of antiphyscotic drugs to correct the chemical imbalance I have.

Avatar n tn The electrolyte imbalance would need to be in close proximity chronologically to the palpitations. I'm no doctor but I find it unlikely that there is a tie between a past history of bulimia and a current bout with arrhythmia. More likely is you are just getting older, making you more likely to have the various benign arrhythmia that are available. To give you an analogy, bulimia might be similar to withholding gasoline from your car.
704329 tn?1518523098 Dysautonomia, hypotension, hypoglycemia, concussion, vascular compression, renal disease, hormonal imbalance, electrolyte imbalance; and many other conditions can cause those symptoms. If they are recurring or persistent symptoms you need to be evaluated by a doctor.
Avatar f tn The symptoms could be due to many causes like low blood pressure, low blood sugar, heart causes, electrolyte imbalance, liver and kidney dysfunction, stress, panic disorder, or even due to hormonal imbalance of menopause. You need to immediately consult a doctor who can examine you and run tests to rule out these causes one by one. You could also be having a mini-stroke. If you cannot otherwise get a doctor, I suggest you rush to an ER. Eat something and drink fluids and see if it helps.
Avatar m tn Not directly, but yes, if high cholesterol is also associated with abnormal liver function, hepatitis or fatty liver. Nausea can also be due to acidity, gastric reflux, electrolyte imbalance and food intolerance. If symptoms persist consult your PCP. Take care!

Avatar m tn Flip T is an expression of an inverted T wave and can indicate coronary ischemia (occluded vessel) but including electrolyte imbalance, heart rate, blood pressure, CNS (central nervous system), kidney problems, etc. The flipped T wave is evidence of the above conditions but requires corroberation with symptoms and signs and other tests. Hope this helps, and if you have any further questions or comments, you are invited to respond. Take care, and thanks for your question.
Avatar n tn Leg spasm can be attributed to a variety of conditions including electrolyte imbalance ( mentioned above) including dehydration, musculoskeletal and neurological conditions, It is best that you have him see his doctor for proper evalaution. Direct clinical examination and complete neurological examiantion are important. Take care and hope to hear from you soon.
Avatar m tn Sometimes muscle spasms and cramps are cause by an electrolyte imbalance (such as a low magnesium, potassium, or sodium level). Dehydration can also cause muscle cramping, etc. If you don't think that you are dehydrated then I suggest you see your primary care doctor and have some blood work done and a physical to see if you have an electrolyte imbalance. I would start with this and see if you can find a cause with your primary care physician. Hope this helps. Good luck.
