Avatar f tn Yes you can have stomach pain along with many other symptoms. Anorexia and Anorexia Nervosa are actually two different things.. Anorexia is simply not eating, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't WANT to eat, just a lack of eating for whatever reason. Anorexia Nervosa (what people are usually talking about when they use the term Anorexia) is when you don't eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight.
Avatar f tn However, in my 28 year of clinical experience, I understand it as a subset of Anorexia Nervosa. This is my professional opinion. The underlying dynamics are quite similar to what we have seen in anorexia for years. It's only in the recent years as our society has focused on pure, organic, and raw foods has this new obessive compulsive form of restriction emerged and is has now been coined orthorexia.

I assumed she had anorexia - eating disorder from any cause - and that is why I assumed the anorexia resulted from her cirrhosis. Now, that I have read the gossip/Oprah stuff I lean more towards Willy's opinion.

554703 tn?1227497870 I never had an eating disorder per say, but years ago during a hard time with my Ex-husband, I didn't eat much and when I did, I only ate things like rice and ham. I lost 39 pounds in 5 weeks and woke up one morning with my heart beating all over the place and was rushed to the ER. Long story short, I was told I was close to joining Karen Carpenter. Karen died from "heartbeat irregularities brought on by chemical (electrolyte) imbalances associated with anorexia nervosa.
Avatar m tn Is she scared to gain weight? Is she obsessive about her body? If so, these are signs of anorexia nervosa. Sometimes when someone doesn't eat for a while the stomach gets smaller and a person can feel full faster. This can happen even for a person who does not show signs of or have an eating disorder. Is the reason she hasn't been eating much lately because she feels sick, or does she feel sick because she hasn't been eating much lately?
Avatar f tn Dear littleem, Do not blame yourself for your PCOS. Research shows that females diagnosed with anorexia nervosa had their polycystic ovary disease symptoms prior to weight loss. Their body mass index was higher when their menses stopped. In addition, their LH and estrogen levels were higher than those adolescents with anorexia only. Avatar f tn People who suffer from anorexia nervosa end up having such a vicious cycle of weight gain and weight loss weight gain and weight loss. This is called the binge fasting dangerous dieting (I read it in the book)...from what I notice about my eating disorder is that my eating disorder will make me binge at a certain point so that eventually I won't ever eat again and I'll be sooooo pissed off at food that I'll end up starving myself again. Trust me...

Avatar f tn If you have eating behavior not clearly defined as anorexia or bulimia, its called Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified or EDNOS. I want to tell you that you are a very strong person to recognize this and that you want to change it. That is the first step. I'm not a professional, but I think you would benefit from talking to someone who can help you understand your habits and feelings of the loss of control.
Avatar n tn There are many other causes like worms in stool, depression, anorexia nervosa, AIDS, cancers especially colon cancers, drug abuse, infections and loss of appetite. Avatar f tn I am 14 years old, and I am developing anorexia nervosa. DO NOT starve yourself, it can lead to anorexia which I can tell you will take over your life. I understand the pressure to be pretty/perfect/thin. It is a hard thing to deal with psychologically. Try to eat health, but make sure that you are getting a health amount of calories- again, don't starve yourself. Try to exercise 20 minutes a day, and as time goes by ramp up the number of minutes you spend on moderate physical activity.
Avatar m tn Hi about three or so years ago I went through a long period of anorexia nervosa, I was checking labels, eating barely any fat foods, always feeling terrible if i aint something unhealthy, and on top of that running 10 miles and working out every day because I thought i was fat. Once then period ended, I immediately began to binge eat at every meal, and would get incredibly bloated and distended (pregnant).
