Common Questions and Answers about Anorexia causes and consequences

anorexia

Avatar f tn It is common to encounter the emotional, psychological, and medical consequences of this disorder even after a long period of stabilization. The toll anorexia takes on one’s body can be immense. It is an integral part of recovery to stay closely connected to your physician and have regular check ups. It would also be important to inform your doctor of your previous history with anorexia as this may alter his/her evaluation and/or recommendations.
1310561 tn?1285863461 Anorexia is an eating disorder and is very hard on you body. While you are young now and it might not seem important, anorexia will cause issues as you get older, such as trouble with your periods, difficulty/inability to have children, as well as others.
Avatar f tn The doctusaid anorexia isn’t the cause as the problem is only in one small area of the brain. She said sometimes epilepsy happens and there is no known cause. My anorexia was awful, took over my whole life then it developed in bulimia and gradually I stopped. I still have cycles where I find myself slipping into staving myself, it’s a life long battle.
Avatar m tn know what to do about him, because he has like, no muscle mass left on him! He says he is experiencing aches and pains all over, and he is blind in hsi left eye, and has had surgery to move the muscle so that his eye looks the right way, because it crossed inward before. But I have heard this happens to other people as well. It is dizziness/vision blacking out, and last time the searing pain brought him to his knees. And he said last time that the pain was in his right eye.
Avatar f tn Yes you can have stomach pain along with many other symptoms. Anorexia and Anorexia Nervosa are actually two different things.. Anorexia is simply not eating, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't WANT to eat, just a lack of eating for whatever reason. Anorexia Nervosa (what people are usually talking about when they use the term Anorexia) is when you don't eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight.
Avatar n tn It is difficult to comment without examination. Possible causes have been enumerated for you. You can discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn actually OSFED (otherwise specified feeding and eating disorder) is only a temporary diagnosis. how you feel about your body is what gives you the disorder, the behaviors the define which kind. there are two types of anorexia, restrictive and binging/purging (which doesn't always include binging). it sounds like you have anorexia nervosa b/p, but i am not a doctor and you should really see one so you can get better.
Avatar f tn I'm 17, somewhere around 115 pounds maybe (my scale at home is broken and that's just what I weighed when I went to the doctor three months ago) and I've been restricting for 2 1/2 years. The past several months, I've been able to restrict and fast more and have probably lost more weight, but I'm still not thin enough to fit the weight criteria for anorexia nervosa or even be considered underweight.
179856 tn?1333547362 I was just reading about Portia DeRossi's anorexia and it says when she was down to 82 pounds she "was told she was suffering from a handful of serious conditions: osteoporosis, organ failure, cirrhosis of the liver and the auto-immune disease lupus." how would anorexia cause cirrhosis does anybody know? I'm just curious because I never heard of that before and was wondering how it was related.
789910 tn?1236878388 I have sufferd from anorexia from age 16 im now 27 and my wight is 74 lbs and i developped a severe crack addiction three years ago and im woundering what i should watch out for and what comlications the two illness may have?
Avatar f tn Hello dear, Nutritional neuropathy is common in people who are anorexic.Nutritional deficiencies causes nerve symptoms, tingling and burning. You should consult a neurologist and go for a evaluation and get the diagnosis confirmed.
Avatar f tn I've lived with anorexia for multiple years now, and recently I have also been having more frequent patterns of bulimia. I have finally realized that I don't want to live my life this way, as it has affected more than my physical health. My parents do not know, and we don't have the money for any formal treatment. So I'm wondering, what can I do to help get on the "road to recovery"?

1938479 tn?1325705620 I found a BMI calculator that might help more. Keep in mind that if girls in your school and on your social media pages are promoting being thin and acting like anorexia is the "in" thing and are pressuring you that this is a horrible idea and will have profound consequences on their lives as well as anyone they manage to influence. Anorexia is a mental illness. Being thin as a stick is not healthy.
Avatar f tn Get a liver function, kidney function test, test for hypothyroidism and diabetes. These will rule out the general causes for loss of appetite. It could be that you are depressed or anxious. Energy drinks etc also if consumed decrease the appetite. For gastric function, try OTC omeprazole with antacids. Keep a diet chart and note your food intake in that. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn If there is more hair loss than this, the first cause we look at is diet. It has been long known that anorexia causes hair loss. Your 400 calories on alternate days is flirting with an anorexia-like diet and is most likely stressing your body. Rather than cut your long locks, look to have a balanced diet each and every day. Good luck.
Avatar m tn As I am sure you are aware, anorexia and bulimia starve the heart, and the consequences are grave.
Avatar m tn But certain infections like tuberculosis can cause an evening rise of temperature and increased sweating. This also causes a loss of appetite; as such this is accompanied by weight loss. So, record your temperatures, on a two hourly basis to detect an evening rise of temperature. Please check with your doctor to rule out this condition. Regards.
Avatar f tn Oh and as far as consequences, well they should be happy they still have us.
Avatar n tn I have noticed within the past 3-4 days that when I am on the Ellipitcal Trainer, my toes, finger tips and lips go numb and my lips turn purple. I have read about Reynauds and did not know if this is what I had or not. The symptoms seem to go away when I take a hot shower, but my lips stay slightly numb throughout the rest of the day. What do you think?
Avatar n tn I feel really defeated because I have been trying to add more protein, calories, and carbs to my diet, but with little results. I look like I have Anorexia, TB, or HIV when I don't!! What should I do? Do you even know? They say it's from rapid weight loss and malnutrition, but what should I do??
5221069 tn?1366618397 You have made a lot of assumptions here, Billie37. I don't have weight issues any longer, I got myself healthy so that I could have children. Also, not everyone just get pregnant once they sort out their weight issues - sometimes premature ovarian failure can occur with a long term eating disorder, in which case, it doesn't matter how healthy you become or how much weight you gain, you won't ovulate for the rest of your life. I said i DID have anorexia and that I was healthy today.
Avatar n tn Unintentional and unexplained weight loss is definitely not good. There are many causes like worms in stool, depression, anorexia nervosa, AIDS, cancers especially colon cancers, drug abuse, infections and loss of appetite. Loss of appetite can again be due to certain medications, drug abuse, depression, AIDS, acute and chronic infections, cancers and hypothyroidism. Either your mother does not eat well or there is increased metabolism as in hyperthyroid states, HIV, cancer etc.
19635756 tn?1481417702 My left side of my face was tingling and my hands felt weak and like there were pins and needles in them. I thought it was just a bad reaction to something but it continues throughout today. I have had a pounding headache and dizzy spells all day. My hands still are shaking and tingling. When I lay down I twitch. I studder some of my qords now. I ate today and I started to sweat, my heart started to hurt and I felt like I was going to faint again. I felt cold ever since last night.
Avatar n tn ve been having trouble eating too, mostly bc of meds - in the past i have had issues with anorexia and bulimia tho. now i literally force myself to eat at least three meals a day, although i usually find it easier to eat smaller meals, like 200-300 calories, five or six times a day. set a reminder on your phone if you have to. even if you don't finish the whole portion try to eat a little.
