Avatar f tn t happen over night and doing it right will keep it off longer... With anorexia the second you start to eat your body holds in everything including the fat because it knows you will starve it again. Also when you stop eating your body will start to eat itself (including your muscles). You can do this hun... keep it up and persevere.
179856 tn?1333547362 I was just reading about Portia DeRossi's anorexia and it says when she was down to 82 pounds she "was told she was suffering from a handful of serious conditions: osteoporosis, organ failure, cirrhosis of the liver and the auto-immune disease lupus." how would anorexia cause cirrhosis does anybody know? I'm just curious because I never heard of that before and was wondering how it was related.
Avatar f tn Proper nutrition is the goal in treating Anorexia. Food is medicine. To learn more about anorexia and treatment options, visit the bella vita website.
Avatar n tn I'm a 27-year-old female and I "recovered" from severe anorexia after in-patient treatment in 2005. I'm 5'3" tall and weighed in the low 70s before treatment. After treatment, I was eating about 1850 calories a day and weighed just under 100 pounds (still low, I know). I continued eating about that much and exercised a bit more (but not much), and by spring 2006, my weight had dropped for some unknown reason to about 83 pounds. I was secretly pleased but disturbed.
Avatar m tn know what to do about him, because he has like, no muscle mass left on him! He says he is experiencing aches and pains all over, and he is blind in hsi left eye, and has had surgery to move the muscle so that his eye looks the right way, because it crossed inward before. But I have heard this happens to other people as well. It is dizziness/vision blacking out, and last time the searing pain brought him to his knees. And he said last time that the pain was in his right eye.
Avatar f tn I've lived with anorexia for multiple years now, and recently I have also been having more frequent patterns of bulimia. I have finally realized that I don't want to live my life this way, as it has affected more than my physical health. My parents do not know, and we don't have the money for any formal treatment. So I'm wondering, what can I do to help get on the "road to recovery"?

Avatar f tn It is common to encounter the emotional, psychological, and medical consequences of this disorder even after a long period of stabilization. The toll anorexia takes on one’s body can be immense. It is an integral part of recovery to stay closely connected to your physician and have regular check ups. It would also be important to inform your doctor of your previous history with anorexia as this may alter his/her evaluation and/or recommendations.
Avatar n tn At age 22, you almost certainly still have hundreds of thousands of eggs in your ovaries - they just are not being released. In general, regular monthly ovulation requires that a critical % of a woman's body weight be fat - approx 20%. Thus, once you reach full recovery, you will hopefully start having regular periods again when not on the pill.
Avatar m tn i have tried many a diet to see what works and what doesnt, I have been through the psychiatrist and I am in a great mental state-- but because of my severe BLOATING and distention immediately after EVERY meal that lasts four hours and is so uncomfortable (but no pain) I still have bad days and it just takes all the life/ energy out of me.
Avatar f tn (Most of these can occur before or after the onset of the eating disorder.

Avatar f tn I'm having a very tough time at college. I have been trying to recover from Anorexia for over a year. I was doing well at home. I was making my own foods and increasing my calories. I moved away for college and I want to go home. I'm doing much worse than before. I cannot make my own food since I live in a dorm and I always feel tired because I can't sleep right, my bones and joints ache, I get dizzy, urinate frequently, and feel very full after I eat anything.

Avatar f tn d pretty much missed two already. I got scared and checked online. Immediately, the red light of ANOREXIA NERVOSA began flashing everywhere. I panicked. It took me almost no time to tell myself to stop exercising and add some weight. I've improved my diet, eat a lot, attempt to squeeze as much fat into my diet as possible. My BMI is not too bad: 17.5-17.7 right now. This "recovery" has been going on for a week. What really scares me is not getting my period back.

869670 tn?1239964618 You are right, you think if only I get to this weight everything will be good. But then you reach it and it's not good and the obsession just gets stronger. It is an enormous realization for you that you were happy at your "heaviest", because it isn't about the weight at all. It's about feeling okay with who you are and the life you live. You are very lucky because you are young and you haven't been doing this for long. That makes it easier to recover.
Avatar f tn first of all your periods stop because you are starving your body, and messing up all your hormone levels and plus you have no body fat. i have had an ed for almost 12 years and i didnt get my period i think till i was 18 it is not healthy to do. i have tremendous amounts of knowledge of this disease and if you ever need someone to talk to please just leave a message for me.
Avatar n tn t really offer any medical advice, but I am several years recovered from anorexia/bulimia and I can offer what I learned from my experience through it and what I learned from the med/psych team who helped me: First of all, congratulations on making a step towards health. It is so terrifying and frustrating, but the only thing that will help the pain go away is to continue on the healthy road--not to go back. The first weeks and even months of recovery, your body and mind will freak out.
Avatar f tn html However, anorexia is a very serious condition! And with it, nothing may taste good to her. This is something that you really need professional help to deal with, and the sooner the better. I worry about the fact that she doesn't want her sisters to know about her. She should not be ashamed about what is going on. And it really is preventing her from getting better! This is a serious condition and even life threatening condition.
