976897 tn?1379167602 It has been estimated that around 20% of the public have Mental Illness, 16% have Heart disease and 16% cancer. They have at last seen the link and believe that taking Mental Illness seriously and treating professionally will severely decrease such illnesses as Heart disease and Cancer. Personally I think they are three decades too late in realising this, but at least they have now woken up.
Avatar f tn I have depression, PTSD and severe anxiety. In the past - eating disorder and OCD. Currently, I am 22 F and I quit my medication about 2 months ago, because I have been on it a year or more and it made me tired and not quite myself. I originally switched from prozac because oddly I had hallucinations and I mean visual and hearing. It was so frightening for me I might never forget it.
696997 tn?1232315913 It is more a lifestyle induced mental illness that something else you are born with and cannot cure. Anxiety is curable it requires a change in your lifestyle, a different way to approach things, a radical mind shift and most important of all control of your mind. You can learn to control your mind by introducing yourself to meditation, getting knowledge about the mind itself or the brain and how it works, physical activity and healthy diet.
Avatar n tn She took him on a tour of the fire department (pre arranged) and a few of the firefighters talked to him and were rather, well, hard on him. Not over the top, but enough to scare him. He never did it again. Point is, there could be a lot of reasons this happened. It may be a sign of a bigger issue, or just plain old kids being kids not understanding the potential consequences of their actions.
Avatar n tn If the body is deprived of nutrients, it will affect the person emotionally and physically. My cousin has an eating disorder and she kept quiting employment and getting new employment and was crying a lot at work. It was not the job, it was the starving of her body causing her to cry at work. She wasn't able to handle any problems that came up. When children do not eat for awhile, they cry because they are hungry.
Avatar m tn know what to do about him, because he has like, no muscle mass left on him! He says he is experiencing aches and pains all over, and he is blind in hsi left eye, and has had surgery to move the muscle so that his eye looks the right way, because it crossed inward before. But I have heard this happens to other people as well. It is dizziness/vision blacking out, and last time the searing pain brought him to his knees. And he said last time that the pain was in his right eye.
Avatar m tn Hey I've had anorexia for more of my life than not, and have spoken to many people who also have it. I'll ask you this- before you lost weight, were you depressed, abused, or have any mental illnesses (personality disorders etc)? Because what anorexia s essentially is a coping mechanism. People who suffer with mental illness or who've had lots of trauma use it as a way to feel better or numb it out or even so they're "good at at least something", stuff like that.
Avatar m tn //www.webmd.com/mental-health/eating-disorders/anorexia-nervosa/mental-health-anorexia-nervosa#1. Diagnosis of eating disorders requires you to step outside of it and ask for help. The best place to start may be to have a physical and express your eating practices and concerns over your weight at that time. If your physician agrees you have an unhealth relationship with food, they may suggest the next step for help.
Avatar f tn This is in order to reduce the anorexic thoughts and get your thinking back to normal as anorexia is a mental illness. So best of luck to you, i hope they can come back and that you can continue to gain weight and become a healthy bmi again. Just remember to think positive, it is scary and hard at first but it really pays off! You will be so much happier!
Avatar f tn Yep - you don't talk about it. When you do, even though, by law under Disablilities Act, you are still going to scare those uneducated people about the illness. I agree also, that if we had cancer, it would be - not easier - but employers are more understanding. When we have days that are hard because we have been up for 3 days, it's not easily understandable.
Avatar n tn Anway in the end andy was sctioned to a mental ward for 3months for his own saftey while he was in hospital he was dignosed with sciphtzophere and was put on anti phsycotics madications and he was good again and the silly man still continued to smoke his weed/cannabis aswell. But he was better once the docs got him on these tablets.it was the cannabis that had caused psychiatric problems with him anyway.
Avatar f tn Strange question but I seem to be so willful or forceful regarding my health and recovery and I was wondering if people experience mental illness as a positive thing (outside personal growth and development). Do many people sit back and accept diagnosis and treatment and life graciously? (We probably wouldn't be depressed if we did would we??) If people are familiar with the Katy Did books this also kind of follows along those lines of Katy making us.
Avatar f tn I guess what I want to know is, what are some things I can do to help with his illness and if my baby could possibly develop mental illness for the simple fact that the father has mental illness. Also, is someone with a serious illness like that suitable to raise a child. I love him so much, but my baby comes first.
1938479 tn?1325705620 thing and are pressuring you that this is a horrible idea and will have profound consequences on their lives as well as anyone they manage to influence. Anorexia is a mental illness. Being thin as a stick is not healthy. Eating healthy and getting just the right balance in exercise and rest is so much better for you. It's alright to just try to be healthy, though.
Avatar m tn This is a very temporary illness and you wont become anorexic from it. In many illness the body reserves its energy for healing and not processing food. Drink some good broths and juices. People can go a long time without solid food and suffer no harm.

Avatar n tn I would approach her and tell her that you think she has an eating disorder. Tell her that what she is doing is not healthy and can kill her. (More people die from anorexia than all other mental illnesses combined) Tell her that you would like her to get help, but it has to be her decision. Tell her that you are there for her if she needs to talk about what's going on, but that you can't and won't police her.
Avatar f tn Yes you can have stomach pain along with many other symptoms. Anorexia and Anorexia Nervosa are actually two different things.. Anorexia is simply not eating, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't WANT to eat, just a lack of eating for whatever reason. Anorexia Nervosa (what people are usually talking about when they use the term Anorexia) is when you don't eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight.
