Anorexia and low heart rate

Common Questions and Answers about Anorexia and low heart rate

anorexia

Avatar m tn As you probably know, this eating disorder can have severe effects on the heart. One of the most common--which you have--is an extremely low heart rate. Other very serious problems include a change in electrolytes, the ions that control the rate at which the cardiac cells fire. That's dangerous, as you can read here: http://www.cardiacmatters.co.uk/how-anorexia-affects-heart.html You do belong under the watchful care of a cardiologist at this point, to prolong your life.
Avatar f tn (I have a blood pressure machine that my doctor recommended that I get to monitor my heart rate) and I get very dizzy and my vision goes black. My blood pressure also drops. According to my doctor, my heart rate should be in the mid-50s to the low 60s and during my physical it was in the high 60s. That's when she told me to check my heart rate often. Thank you for your reply.
Avatar f tn When you start eating more, your body is forced to wake up and start digesting, and the shock to your system causes an increase in heart rate that may manifest itself over a long period of time. Luckily, our bodies and our hearts are tough, and are able to adjust. It will take time, but I'll bet that after you're fully recovered, your heart rate will slow and your health will be better than ever. Keep eating, and believe in the power of your body to be healthy once more.
Avatar f tn Yes you can have stomach pain along with many other symptoms. Anorexia and Anorexia Nervosa are actually two different things.. Anorexia is simply not eating, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't WANT to eat, just a lack of eating for whatever reason. Anorexia Nervosa (what people are usually talking about when they use the term Anorexia) is when you don't eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight.
Avatar f tn I would make sure you are eating enough, getting lots and lots of water, as well add the sodium and supplements like he suggested. Low bp from the fast heart rate may be what is contributing to the black outs. Water and sodium may help alleviate this.
Avatar f tn About a month ago I had an EKG done saying that my heart rate was a little low, I'm 18 5'10 and 116lbs. I'm underweight but currently on a weight gain diet, and have just recently made major changes to my eating habits. Until yesterday I've felt fine, but started having chest pains and breathing seems a little more difficult than usual. It's gone off and on since yesterday. Should I be concerned? Could this also be from eating a lot?
Avatar f tn Omg me too! I weigh 143lbs but it's all round my face and stomach which looks stupid with my normal legs! I'm going to use this app, eat "clean" and exercise EVERDAY low intensity to fat burn I think heart rate at 129 and then do a half hour toning sesh, haha optimistic! I hope I stick to it I am the worst at sticking to things!!!
Avatar f tn Some of your symptoms can be explained by low Vit. D which in turn it is also explained by low PTH. Have your doctors already corrected those deficiencies? Have you got any reason for the low PTH and GH? I assume your thyroids and sexual hormones are O.K. and you have not suffered anorexia.
Avatar n tn I am 29 yrs old and have suffered from bulimia for yrs now and it has gotten severe over the last few yrs. I now have constant rapid heart rate and a few days ago my dr. sent me for an ekg the findings showed rapid heart beat and an enlarged upper chamber and have been referred to a cardiologist. neither dr. knows of my bulimia. what is going on with my heart? What should I expect to happen and am i at risk of surgery or death?
Avatar f tn Dear Scared, Anorexia nervosa causes a number of abnormal findings around the body, and that includes within the heart. The heart muscle can thin and be starved, which can decrease its function. As well, the body's electrolytes can be abnormal, which can alter the electrical conduction properties of the heart.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if stress can give you and excellerated heart rate, tingly/cold in arm and leg and make you have high blood pressure?

179856 tn?1333547362 I was just reading about Portia DeRossi's anorexia and it says when she was down to 82 pounds she "was told she was suffering from a handful of serious conditions: osteoporosis, organ failure, cirrhosis of the liver and the auto-immune disease lupus." how would anorexia cause cirrhosis does anybody know? I'm just curious because I never heard of that before and was wondering how it was related.
554703 tn?1227497870 t eat much and when I did, I only ate things like rice and ham. I lost 39 pounds in 5 weeks and woke up one morning with my heart beating all over the place and was rushed to the ER. Long story short, I was told I was close to joining Karen Carpenter. Karen died from "heartbeat irregularities brought on by chemical (electrolyte) imbalances associated with anorexia nervosa." I never did that again.
Avatar f tn I have always been high energy and lately I am just tired and crappy. I also did a stress test dr. says I did real well and have a strong heart. Heart rate during the day. 89 to 100 bpm. why am I so tired and crabby. I have never been like this. Age 53. Both my parents had heart problems and 3 family members also. They say My mom died of heart attack in her sleep. I hate feeling like this.
Avatar f tn They had a very hard time finding the little one and when they did he/she only was measuring 5 1/2 weeks (at that point I was 7 weeks 1 day) and the heart rate was only 70. The Dr. said this was low, but that it could shoot up in a weeks time. They suggested another u/s a week later. Does anyone have any experience with this? The waiting is horrible!
1355431 tn?1369975306 ) I went to have a scan today and the hubby and I got to see the babys heart beat for the first time. I am 6 weeks and 3 days according to the ultrasound and the heart rate was at 105. I thought this sounded a bit low , but the ultra sound tech told me she is not allowed to comment. I won't see my ob for another week and Im really worried. Is this heart rate ok ?
Avatar f tn How low and how long can a hearts pulse go before damage occurs? For four weeks my friend has had below 40 all the time. Now it is 33. At 63 I am worried.

Avatar m tn its because of sideeffect of xanax you taken previously. pulse rate will slowly improve after some weeks. anyway never take such anxiety medicines, most of them can make pulse go slow. also this happens when take blood pressure pills when pressure is already normal or low.
Avatar m tn Her Cardiologist performed the standard 24 hour EKG which showed her heart rate dropping to 10-15 BPM and at times stopping entirely for 5 second intervals during a two hour period while sleeping.
Avatar f tn t feel weak with such a low heart rate as I had before. He told me that my body gets accustomed to the lower heart rate, and therefore I wouldn't feel weak. My question?: Is that true?
Avatar f tn Heard a story about a woman who passed out and her heart rate was so low that she was pronounced dead and brought to the morgue, where she soon woke up like nothing had every happened, and this had happened to her a couple times in the past so it wasn't random. Was just wondering if this was an actual disease or syndrome of some kind and what the name of it was.
