anorexia

179856 tn?1333547362 Wow I really had no idea you could have liver failure and kidney failure and all that........I never really thought about it and now it makes more sense why karen Carpenter died from it.
Avatar m tn I am anorexic and I weigh 40 kegs and I’m concerned I have heart failure - I have been having shortness of breath when lying down and things like that. However I’ve been to the hospital and had a chest X-ray an ecg and the doctor said my lungs are clear so I’m not sure what this is. Please help ? Thanks.
Avatar f tn liver failure; kidney failure (extremely common, and often sets in early on during starvation), heart failure; heart attack; anal prolapse; muscle deterioration; ulcers; decreased or absent bowel function; loss of menstruation leading to: ovarian cysts, increased risk of ovarian or cervical cancer, hormonal imbalances, infertility, etc.
554703 tn?1227497870 t eat much and when I did, I only ate things like rice and ham. I lost 39 pounds in 5 weeks and woke up one morning with my heart beating all over the place and was rushed to the ER. Long story short, I was told I was close to joining Karen Carpenter. Karen died from "heartbeat irregularities brought on by chemical (electrolyte) imbalances associated with anorexia nervosa." I never did that again.
Avatar n tn sent me for an ekg the findings showed rapid heart beat and an enlarged upper chamber and have been referred to a cardiologist. neither dr. knows of my bulimia. what is going on with my heart? What should I expect to happen and am i at risk of surgery or death?
Avatar n tn Even more recently I have started experiencing a feeling like my heart is fluttering in my chest, accompanied by difficulty getting a deep enough breath and then followed by a feeling like my heart is racing. Im concerned that because of my eating disorder I could potentially be near to having a heart attack. Is this something I should be worried about? Or am i just overreacting?
Avatar f tn Then I started restricting a little more again, and this past week they came back bad, my heart rate is really fast and the pain is sharp. I went to the ER yesterday and everything was normal except for a fast heart rate. But I'm afraid because they say your labs can be perfectly normal and your heart can still give out at any time! They prescribed me a beta blocker, which I'm supposed to get today. What should I do, I don't want to die!!
5221069 tn?1366618397 You have made a lot of assumptions here, Billie37. I don't have weight issues any longer, I got myself healthy so that I could have children. Also, not everyone just get pregnant once they sort out their weight issues - sometimes premature ovarian failure can occur with a long term eating disorder, in which case, it doesn't matter how healthy you become or how much weight you gain, you won't ovulate for the rest of your life. I said i DID have anorexia and that I was healthy today.
785277 tn?1244324809 I can only speak for myself. I had beautiful teeth when I was a teenager. Now from my twenties on....43, Infections!!!!I have had all my teeth root canaled, bonded, pulled, bridged, and now finally all pulled and I'm working on implants. Its not worth all the pain and suffering, I will tell you that right now. I have spent over 35,000 on my teeth over the years. Infections in the mouth can lead to death...the infection can go straight to your heart or brain.
Avatar f tn , then go tell your doctor you have anorexia nervosa and he will hospitalize you before you go into organ failure. Maybe they can help you.
Avatar f tn I agree with her, do see an Electro-Physicist. I had my heart burned to eliminate A-Fib, but if you have a history of anorexia that will complicate the issue. anorexia can remove from vital trace elements in you body, but it can also cause serious tooth problems as well as vocal chord damage. I'll just add that my heart condition requires I monitor magnesium, sodium, potassium and other trace elements in my body every two weeks. I trust you are getting regular blood tests.
996946 tn?1503249112 Some of these include abdominal bleeding, abdominal cancer, an inflammation of the lining of the abdomen, a ruptured bladder, liver damage, low levels of protein in the blood (or hypoproteinemia), and right-sided congestive heart failure, in which the heart cannot pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs. A medical condition known as nephritic syndrome -- where the dog has protein in its urine and high cholesterol in its blood -- may also be responsible for fluid buildup in the abdomen.
Avatar f tn Proper nutrition is the goal in treating Anorexia. Food is medicine. To learn more about anorexia and treatment options, visit the bella vita website.
Avatar n tn My bet is that this is not because of premature menopause, since the chances of premature ovarian failure in a 30 year old are only 1/1000 overall, and premature ovarian failure accounts for only 10% of situations when women do not have periods. With your history of anorexia, you may still have a low percent body fat and when that occurs (and even when not) the anorexia may have suppressed the signals from your hypothalamus (the part of the brain that controls ovulation).
Avatar f tn Low blood pressure, normal ECG, normal chest x-ray... yet oh my heck, I'm terrified. You see, I had anorexia nervosa when I was eleven and I currently have an underactive thyroid... which causes heart failure, funnily enough. I've just been scaring myself all weekend. I've been feeling weak, fluttery and unwell since Friday... short of breath... heart palps... I'm a vegan, and my Dad thinks I'm ruining my health and I thought, maybe he was right.
Avatar f tn i am an anorexic 5'4" 97lbs. on border of heart aryhtmias (ekg result) and every so often (1-2x wk) for a very short period of time feel pins and needles in both of my feet - not toes, but towards center of foot. Is this cause of concern?
Avatar m tn I'm sure you are very worried. Let me try to help.............a bit. First of all - I have experienced Pulmonary Edema on 2 serious occasions in '08. Both - life threatening..........the second - so life threatening that I experienced Respiratory Failure at my local hospital and had to be airlifted to the central hospital here in Maine. I was put in a coma and was not expected to live. I am a 58 y.o. male with an Ejection Fraction of 10-15% since '03.
Avatar m tn I got an Ekg and an Ecg both came out normal but I heard those test arent conclusive to a clogged heart?
Avatar n tn She should see a cardiologist for the fluid in her lungs and a diuretic medication can help that condition. I had lung edema from heart failure and it is not very pleasant experience...feels like I was breathing through a cloth and not getting enough air and coughing was just as bad. Yes, there can be a full recovery depending on the underlying cause. There is effective therapy for heart patients so don't give up.
Avatar m tn why this odd disassociation between heart failure and NSVT when there ought to be a corelation? Also, which is more unsafe- heart failure symptoms without NSVT or NSVT without heart failure symptoms?
Avatar m tn My Patty was diagnosed with Heart Failure 10 days ago, he had been doing pretty good, not liking taking his meds but now he is NOT wanting to eat and when we make it liquid and squirt it down his throat, it has started coming back up. He has no problem drinking and peeing. He is a month over 15 years old and my precious baby. Any ideas out there, he goes back to his dr in 2 days but I am about sick, his mom died of kidney failure and I hate to think this is happening to him.
Avatar f tn My parents are planning my funeral just in case it hurts me to even talk about it and there asking me how I want my funeral. I dont care I just dont want to die. All family and friends have been here with me, but I just want evreyone to go home and leave me alone I do not want to talk about death. All they do is sit around me and cry I dont want them to feel sorry for me because that just makes me even more upset.
Avatar f tn Palpitations are like headaches. By themselves they mean nothing. In rare instances a headache could be a brain tumor. A palpitation could mean anything. Sometimes it's something serious. If it is a rare occurance it probably is nothing. If it happens a lot, it is probably something, but the overwhelming odds are that something is far, far, far less sinister a medical condition than heart failure.
