My advice to you is to get a wide variety of moderate exercise and eat plenty of lean meats, low fat/no fat dairy, fruits, veggies, fiber, etc in sensible portions. I know it's important to look good and when we look good, we have a lot more self confidence, but being "skinny" is not equivalent to looking good.
179856 tn?1333547362 I was just reading about Portia DeRossi's anorexia and it says when she was down to 82 pounds she "was told she was suffering from a handful of serious conditions: osteoporosis, organ failure, cirrhosis of the liver and the auto-immune disease lupus." how would anorexia cause cirrhosis does anybody know? I'm just curious because I never heard of that before and was wondering how it was related.
Avatar m tn So, in my late teens to mid-20s, I battled anorexia and was hospitalized many times. I consider myself a recovered anorexic, but one can never truly recover. I still battle daily, but have been able to maintain a healthy weight. After trying for sometime, I am finally pregnant. I was worried I would never be able to conceive due to all the damage i did to my body. How do I stay strong? I need to be strong during the pregnancy and after to model good eating for my child.
5613711 tn?1370974671 Im 20 years old and developed anorexia at the age of 13, I never recieved any treatment but seemed to get better. I tend to go in and out of anorexia but dont realise it until friends notice my weight loss. I have always had problems with food and I have some kind of fear of eating some foods, the smell of food in general and the look of food, basically i hate eating but I do eat. I have been exercising a lot for the past 12 months I have lost over 1.
Avatar f tn No I don't know the lab results. Since she's 19 yrs old, she's considered an adult and parents have no right to know anything about your child due to privacy acts. The Dr. definately said the tests showed Hypothyroidism with her even though she's so skinny (due to past anorexia and now exercise obsession wt loss).

I have always had problems with food and I have some kind of fear of eating some foods, the smell of food in general and the look of food, basically i hate eating but I do eat. I have been exercising a lot for the past 12 months I have lost over 1.5 stone in weight but im a health weight for my height. but people say i exercise too much.
Avatar m tn I got married and wanted to have a child and my doctor said my thin weight was making it more difficult. I was able to say okay and eat more normally, slow down exercise and put weight on. So, the anorexia wasn't controlling me at that point. BUT, that would be something that some couldn't just do. So, not sure where you fall in this but would love to hear from you and how you are doing!
Avatar f tn I've been diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa, feel depressed a lot of the time and cut regularly. I go for therapy with the NHS but I still feel terrible. Does anyone know how I can start to feel better?
Avatar f tn Proper nutrition is the goal in treating Anorexia. Food is medicine. To learn more about anorexia and treatment options, visit the bella vita website.
Avatar f tn So I'm a 16 year old girl, about 5'5' and 110lbs. I'm on a calorie restricting diet and exercising a lot to lose weight. My family doesn't know and I can't talk to them about it due to circumstances i cannot discuss. My one friend who knows about this tells me I'm on the verge of anorexia and people at school are talking about me saying how skinny I'm getting. When people originally told me this I took it as a compliment, now I find it embarrassing.
Avatar f tn Omg me too! I weigh 143lbs but it's all round my face and stomach which looks stupid with my normal legs! I'm going to use this app, eat "clean" and exercise EVERDAY low intensity to fat burn I think heart rate at 129 and then do a half hour toning sesh, haha optimistic! I hope I stick to it I am the worst at sticking to things!!!
Avatar m tn I also think she would benefit from more protein with all the strain she puts on her body through every day exercise. For someone doing this much and of this weight what would be a good carb - protein daily goal?

Avatar f tn Yes you can have stomach pain along with many other symptoms. Anorexia and Anorexia Nervosa are actually two different things.. Anorexia is simply not eating, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't WANT to eat, just a lack of eating for whatever reason. Anorexia Nervosa (what people are usually talking about when they use the term Anorexia) is when you don't eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight.
Avatar m tn Hey I've had anorexia for more of my life than not, and have spoken to many people who also have it. I'll ask you this- before you lost weight, were you depressed, abused, or have any mental illnesses (personality disorders etc)? Because what anorexia s essentially is a coping mechanism. People who suffer with mental illness or who've had lots of trauma use it as a way to feel better or numb it out or even so they're "good at at least something", stuff like that.
Avatar n tn Hello there, I have been battling various forms of Anorexia/Bulimia since my mid teens and now I am 26 years old. I am about 5'2 and weight around 78lbs. I am in the care of a physician and a therapist, yet I still feel a little lost on how to get started on my recovery, with what to eat, how much, etc. I think this is because I haven't eaten normally in so long my body doesn't know how to tell me what it really needs or when its had enough or not enough.
Avatar n tn Right now she is at a healthy body weight but she would still like to lose some pounds. the thing is she has been trying to lose them normally through exercise and diet but since her metabolism is so shot from her bad anorexia its extremely difficult for her and that only makes it worse. i really don't like seeing her this upset. any advice?
Avatar f tn d pretty much missed two already. I got scared and checked online. Immediately, the red light of ANOREXIA NERVOSA began flashing everywhere. I panicked. It took me almost no time to tell myself to stop exercising and add some weight. I've improved my diet, eat a lot, attempt to squeeze as much fat into my diet as possible. My BMI is not too bad: 17.5-17.7 right now. This "recovery" has been going on for a week. What really scares me is not getting my period back.
Avatar f tn I am currently medically stable but have been struggling for three years with hypothyroid symptoms( constant fatigue, brain fog, cold hands, slow motor skill, anxiety and depression worse, and a couple other symptoms) despite my bmi being normal, and proper nutrition. I am currently on thyroid meds but the only result is that my tsh is very low. Other wise I am still feeling the same and some symptoms are worse.
