Common Questions and Answers about Anorexia and diabetes

anorexia

Avatar f tn Hi, I'm in treatment for anorexia and trying Seroquel XR 50mg to help with mood and anxiety. Really scared of the weight gain I've researched associated with it and have a strong history of hypothyroidism and diabetes in the family. Can anyone help?
179856 tn?1333547362 I was just reading about Portia DeRossi's anorexia and it says when she was down to 82 pounds she "was told she was suffering from a handful of serious conditions: osteoporosis, organ failure, cirrhosis of the liver and the auto-immune disease lupus." how would anorexia cause cirrhosis does anybody know? I'm just curious because I never heard of that before and was wondering how it was related.
Avatar f tn Get a liver function, kidney function test, test for hypothyroidism and diabetes. These will rule out the general causes for loss of appetite. It could be that you are depressed or anxious. Energy drinks etc also if consumed decrease the appetite. For gastric function, try OTC omeprazole with antacids. Keep a diet chart and note your food intake in that. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Avatar n tn I feel really defeated because I have been trying to add more protein, calories, and carbs to my diet, but with little results. I look like I have Anorexia, TB, or HIV when I don't!! What should I do? Do you even know? They say it's from rapid weight loss and malnutrition, but what should I do??
Avatar n tn Loss of appetite can again be due to certain medications, drug abuse, depression, AIDS, acute and chronic infections, cancers and hypothyroidism. Either your mother does not eat well or there is increased metabolism as in hyperthyroid states, HIV, cancer etc. Poor absorption as in irritable bowel syndromes and malabsorption syndromes too is possible. Malabsorption syndromes are seen in intestinal tuberculosis, HIV, tropical sprue, parasites in stool and Whipple’s Disease.
Avatar f tn Yes you can have stomach pain along with many other symptoms. Anorexia and Anorexia Nervosa are actually two different things.. Anorexia is simply not eating, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't WANT to eat, just a lack of eating for whatever reason. Anorexia Nervosa (what people are usually talking about when they use the term Anorexia) is when you don't eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight.
Avatar f tn Perhaps testing for endocrine disorders, especially Hypoadrenocorticism, Hyperadrenocortism, and Diabetes Insipidus would help. Whatever the cause it is essential that your dog drink and eat. Unlike cats, dogs can fast temporarily without problems, but they must drink. She should be hospitalized and given IV fluid therapy if she is not drinking. If she continues not to eat she should be given an appetite stimulant, such as Mirtazipine.
Avatar f tn 1 Hypothyroidism,2 diabetes mellitus,3 hepatic diseases, anorexia nervosa, and renal diseases may be associated with carotenemia unassociated with the ingestion of carotene.4 Carotenemia may also be associated with the ingestion of carotene-rich nutritional supplements. I turned my son's nose orange when he was a baby because I was feeding him too many carrots. Carrot Juice also has alot of sugar in it. You are definately drinking too much carrot juice. Everything in moderation.
Avatar n tn I think it's possible to feel worse physically when your depression is around. Causing an illness I doubt it, unless you have disordered eating. I know because I'm going through the same symptoms and being tested AGAIN for diabetes, it has triggered a bit of depression which I am fighting off. Are you following a diet or are you withholding food at all? Poor eating or anorexia can put you into that spot. I'm a bulemic in remission for the last 18 yrs beside two very little hiccups.

Avatar n tn Hello, Presence of ketones in urine is not normal and can be found in metabolic abnormalities such as diabetes, renal glycosuria, or glycogen storage disease, dietary conditions such as starvation, fasting, high protein, or low carbohydrate diets, prolonged vomiting, and anorexia and conditions in which metabolism is increased, such as hyperthyroidism, fever, pregnancy or lactation. You need to consult a physician and get all these causes ruled out.
Avatar f tn I'm not 100% sure if I have diabetes, because I talked with my mom about it and she says I might just be a little paranoid. My dad has diabetes (I think type 1), and I am showing most of the symptoms. My blood glucose level has been 200-220 for the past 12 hours.
Avatar f tn I am currently medically stable but have been struggling for three years with hypothyroid symptoms( constant fatigue, brain fog, cold hands, slow motor skill, anxiety and depression worse, and a couple other symptoms) despite my bmi being normal, and proper nutrition. I am currently on thyroid meds but the only result is that my tsh is very low. Other wise I am still feeling the same and some symptoms are worse.
Avatar m tn know what to do about him, because he has like, no muscle mass left on him! He says he is experiencing aches and pains all over, and he is blind in hsi left eye, and has had surgery to move the muscle so that his eye looks the right way, because it crossed inward before. But I have heard this happens to other people as well. It is dizziness/vision blacking out, and last time the searing pain brought him to his knees. And he said last time that the pain was in his right eye.
1017480 tn?1303107824 I am 26 years old, 5'4", and 90pounds. I have suffered from Anorexia and Bulimia for the past 5 years. I recently have been experiencing severe weeping edema all over my body. Avatar f tn I have been getting light headed and dizzy a lot lately and am very awake at night and have a hard time falling asleep. Then come morning I have a hard time waking up and going to work and feel tired all day long. I have been a bit stressed out latelty but i haven't changed my eating habits I make sure to eat three meals a day whether I feel like it or not. Can anyone give some idea's???
Avatar f tn I told him I had already been tested for diabetes insipidus and diabetes in general. (Glucuose test) and everything comes back normal. He said there are many tests to do to check for diabetes and many forms of diabetes. Taking my symptoms, weight loss, constant urination (dehydration at times from constant urination), always getting thirsty in the middle of the night leads him to suspect some sort of diabetes.
1715257 tn?1308732738 Wierd numbness in fingers and toes by Satpriya, 2 hours ago I have had the glucose tolerance test and I am clear of diabetes, my doctor has been treating me with vitamin B (thiamin) but I have not noticed any improvement. I, too have constant ache in the lumbar region and my back and knees suddenly give way on me all the time, I was treating my knee weekness with double dose magnesium and at first it helped a lot but now that doesn't seem to work anymore.
Avatar f tn Diabetes and Bulimia are a deadly duo, To say "As per I knew there is no relation between bulimia for diabetes." is incorrect. This link http://tinyurl.com/6x93zv produced 1,510,000 hits on the subject. As you review each thread you'll see lots of distinct relationships between bulimia and diabetes.
Avatar m tn I also feel weakness in the muscles of my legs and arms. I have thought maybe diabetes or MS but I have no other symptoms of either. I do not have health insurance as I have been unemployed now for over a year so I cannot go to the doctor. Any adeas what could be going on?

785277 tn?1244324809 I can only speak for myself. I had beautiful teeth when I was a teenager. Now from my twenties on....43, Infections!!!!I have had all my teeth root canaled, bonded, pulled, bridged, and now finally all pulled and I'm working on implants. Its not worth all the pain and suffering, I will tell you that right now. I have spent over 35,000 on my teeth over the years. Infections in the mouth can lead to death...the infection can go straight to your heart or brain.
Avatar m tn Hello! I'm 18 years old and I'm a male. My girlfriend is 18 years old as well. This post is about my girlfriend. She has told me how she was 130 pounds freshman year of high school ( 4 years ago) and now that she's older she's gotten to as low as 115 and she is very skinny and has a flat stomach with little curves. She is not anorexic skinny but definitely skinny for a girl especially compared to what she used to look like in pictures years ago.
Avatar m tn Malabsorption syndromes are seen in intestinal tuberculosis, HIV, tropical sprue, parasites in stool and Whipple’s Disease. Diabetes too can be the cause. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!
