I was just reading about Portia DeRossi's anorexia and it says when she was down to 82 pounds she "was told she was suffering from a handful of serious conditions: osteoporosis, organ failure, cirrhosis of the liver and the auto-immune disease lupus." how would anorexia cause cirrhosis does anybody know? I'm just curious because I never heard of that before and was wondering how it was related.

My son is dxed with high functioning autism/aspergers synd. and has sensory issues and ocd issues galore and he is a very finicky eater at best tho he has opened up recently. Before he lived off of frozen waffles and milk. Id look up OCD otherwise if could be a phobia of some sort, i HAVE heard of that but i dont know the name of it. Maybe some sort of food anxiety? Just brainstorming here!

Hu. I'm 15, I live in Sweden. On the outside I kind of smile and I always appear to be quite hyped and bubbly. But inside I feel so sick. Tierd. Hopeless. About a year ago I had anorexia. At the same time my pshykologist couldn't make much time for me. Later on I tried to commit suicide for the secondth time. I was scheduled a crisis meeting and given Artarax for the summer, they're really light anti-depressives. Now I think still feel like I did back then.

I am currently medically stable but have been struggling for three years with hypothyroid symptoms( constant fatigue, brain fog,cold hands, slow motor skill, anxiety and depression worse, and a couple other symptoms) despite my bmi being normal, and proper nutrition. I am currently on thyroid meds but the only result is that my tsh is very low. Other wise I am still feeling the same and some symptoms are worse.

know what to do about him, because he has like, no muscle mass left on him! He says he is experiencing aches and pains all over, and he is blind in hsi left eye, and has had surgery to move the muscle so that his eye looks the right way, because it crossed inward before. But I have heard this happens to other people as well. It is dizziness/vision blacking out, and last time the searing pain brought him to his knees. And he said last time that the pain was in his right eye.

Hi, New here but not new to autism. I have a son and two girls with autism. All to different degrees from HD to LD. My wife and I split up 10 years ago. However we still work very closely in bringing up our children. But, I have met some one else and we would like to have a baby. I am Very concerned. Neither my family, my ex's family or my existing partner have any members in their family with autism or on the spectrum. or at least so it seems. My question is. . .

I just watched More Business of Being Born, and they talked about the possible link between ultrasounds and Autism. They said the ultrasound waves change the size of the cells, so there needs to be more research about the effects. I've had three ultrasounds all within weeks 4 and 5. They were ruling out an ectopic pregnancy. I'm now 8 1/2 weeks along and doing great. I'm worried about the effects of those ultrasounds. Any input?

Hi iam a female of 24yrs i feel heaviness and dizziness whenever i move my head in space (side to side) i dont whats the problem is the problem is with my vertebral artery or is it anorexia. Pl. guide me as soon as possible.

I can only speak for myself. I had beautiful teeth when I was a teenager. Now from my twenties on....43, Infections!!!!I have had all my teeth root canaled, bonded, pulled, bridged, and now finally all pulled and I'm working on implants. Its not worth all the pain and suffering, I will tell you that right now. I have spent over 35,000 on my teeth over the years. Infections in the mouth can lead to death...the infection can go straight to your heart or brain.

I was looking this up and you are right children with Autism do have food related issues .,there may be some parents on the Autism forum who have similar problems with their child ..

Hello :) I am the mother of three boys, Jacob is three and the twins Nathan and Michael are eleven months old. I have been hearing alot latley about the MMR shots having something to do with Autism. I am very concerned about this because our twins year checkup is around the corner and I am not sure how to handle this? We have a few friends that claim that after their child received the MMR shot a few days later everything changed.

I also was on Zoloft while pregnant with my son and he was recently at age of 4 diagnosed with Autism. I honestly believe no matter what others say it has to do with taking anti depressents during pregnancy. My pregnancy was fine until I started on my meds and my son ended up being born 5 weeks early than my other son I also was on anti depressants for beginning of pregnancy and having problems until I quit taking them and pregnancy went normal.

I worked Department of Mental Health for 2 1/2yrs and still have a lot of strong ties to it, especially the Autism Spectrum community.

first of all your periods stop because you are starving your body, and messing up all your hormone levels and plus you have no body fat. i have had an ed for almost 12 years and i didnt get my period i think till i was 18 it is not healthy to do. i have tremendous amounts of knowledge of this disease and if you ever need someone to talk to please just leave a message for me.

t happen over night and doing it right will keep it off longer... With anorexia the second you start to eat your body holds in everything including the fat because it knows you will starve it again. Also when you stop eating your body will start to eat itself (including your muscles). You can do this hun... keep it up and persevere.

My Stepdad is always caling me ugly .. And when i look in the mirror i believe it sometimes, all my friends say i'm beautiful. But i don't feel Beautiful. i have a problem, I hardly ever eat anymore :( i starve myself. I'm 5'3 and 100 pounds and i'm scared that i'll become anorexic, When i don't eat i get headaches, I always carry Ibuprofen with me, i take atleast 2 or 3 a day, I just really need help ..

Try the way you said and see, but you may still need psychological support and/or advice from a nutritionist about eating healthily.

I have very low self esteem when i look in the mirror i just want to break it, sometimes i just hate myself, I'm 106 pounds and 5'3, i keep eating less, sometimes i starve myself, i'm scared i might become anorexic, But whenever i eat i get depressed, i need help please help me, before things get outta hand ];
