anorexia

Avatar f tn There is also an eating disorders forum on here as well which might help, sadly I don't think youre going to get a lot of help with anorexia on the bipolar forums but its worth the question. I tend to be the same as leftcoastchick - doctor is the person you need, I know anorexia needs serious help and counselling but id also wonder if it is anorexia which has fairly specific symptoms and behaviours as opposed to not eating which is indeed possibly an attempt at suicide.
Avatar m tn Hello. I'm new and terrified for a friend who says she's been diagnosed with Lyme disease. At first, I had no reason to believe otherwise. However, I'm not sure now. She has lost an extreme amount of weight. A couple of years ago when this all began, she was losing weight quickly and couldn't eat anything unless it was pureed. Without going into all the details, she presented all the signs of anorexia and still does.
Avatar f tn t happen over night and doing it right will keep it off longer... With anorexia the second you start to eat your body holds in everything including the fat because it knows you will starve it again. Also when you stop eating your body will start to eat itself (including your muscles). You can do this hun... keep it up and persevere.
Avatar f tn t WANT to eat, just a lack of eating for whatever reason. Anorexia Nervosa (what people are usually talking about when they use the term Anorexia) is when you don't eat because you think you are fat, or you have a strong fear of gaining weight. Though technically, part of the clinical diagnosis of Anorexia Nervosa is losing 15 percent or more of what your normal body weight should be, you do not need to be super thin in order to have an eating disorder.
179856 tn?1333547362 t know anything about Portia. I had no idea she suffered from anorexia nervosa. I assumed she had anorexia - eating disorder from any cause - and that is why I assumed the anorexia resulted from her cirrhosis. Now, that I have read the gossip/Oprah stuff I lean more towards Willy's opinion.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry you are in a position to have to analyze this. I would venture a guess that a fair number of girls do not have a very good self image. And losing weight sometimes helps and sometimes not. That's a bit different than body dysmorphic disorder. Body dysmorphic disorder is a total preoccupation. It does often accompany an eating disorder such as bulimia and/or anorexia. You don't say how you lost the weight and if you actively are trying to lose more.
Avatar f tn I was wondering about the medical and social differences between patients with anorexia and patients with orthorexia, or if generally they are felt to be the same disease?
918035 tn?1274644533 You must learn to consider your difference from other normal people and continue to take Anorexia treatment until your eating disorder is totally gone.
Avatar f tn So I'm a 16 year old girl, about 5'5' and 110lbs. I'm on a calorie restricting diet and exercising a lot to lose weight. My family doesn't know and I can't talk to them about it due to circumstances i cannot discuss. My one friend who knows about this tells me I'm on the verge of anorexia and people at school are talking about me saying how skinny I'm getting. When people originally told me this I took it as a compliment, now I find it embarrassing.
918035 tn?1274644533 I myself have 15 years recovery from an Eating Disorder; not Anorexia, but I have spoken with many people who have longterm recovery from that as well. Over time, your symptoms will get less and less frequent and when you are in recovery if something upsets you you will think about restricting, but will have other tools to handle your feelings. I think it is very much important for you to receive treatment for your Anorexia because it is very very hard to do it on your own.
Avatar f tn Anorexia can't be diagnosed at a distance. Your friend may have an eating disorder like anorexia, or something else may be behind the eating behavior you're seeing. Her weight of 7 stone (98 lbs. for non Brits) may be anything from very skinny to light, depending on her height and frame. Your description makes her family situation seem to be a possible cause for your friend's weight and eating behavior.
Avatar m tn //www.webmd.com/mental-health/eating-disorders/anorexia-nervosa/mental-health-anorexia-nervosa#1. Diagnosis of eating disorders requires you to step outside of it and ask for help. The best place to start may be to have a physical and express your eating practices and concerns over your weight at that time. If your physician agrees you have an unhealth relationship with food, they may suggest the next step for help.
1050362 tn?1253918483 Those are the things you need to get help with to get the eating disorder under control. Talking to people online is good and there are some people on this board around your age that will probably see and respond to this post soon. But it's not the same as talking to people in real life who understand what you are going through. OA is a great place to talk to such people and get support. There are meetings everywhere, just look in the phonebook. Good luck to you!
Avatar n tn Not eating properly affects more than your weight. It affects all the organs of your body. Please check with your doctor. I hope you can find a balance between feeling good about yourself and feeling healthy too.
Avatar f tn was it anorexia in the beginning, or me just being weird?
Avatar f tn Hello dear, Nutritional neuropathy is common in people who are anorexic.Nutritional deficiencies causes nerve symptoms, tingling and burning. You should consult a neurologist and go for a evaluation and get the diagnosis confirmed.
Avatar f tn The only thing I can think of is vertigo, which affects people differently. It took me several years and M.R.I.'s to figure out what I was going through. I found it hard to believe that all my symptoms were based on an inner ear disturbance! My situation finally resolved itself and it hasn't come back, thank goodness. You could always ask your doctor about it. I wish you the very best! Take care. I hope we'll hear from you.
Avatar m tn can anorexia cause pain all over the body? along with dizziiness and sharp eye pain?
Avatar f tn I know that it can take over Your mind and it can make You feel horrible and it is difficult. I have been in hospital with Anorexia in the past for Five months and it was a horrible time, I had no control at all and was sedated if I tried removing the tube. It is so much easier to fight this and eat on your own than to feel powerless altogether. The thoughts might leave and might not but you can fight this and can be strong.
Avatar f tn I am developing anorexia, but I don't feel bad for it at all. I don't feel compelled to get help, etc. I don't feel like I'm good enough for people to care. I've recently dropped 13 pounds in two weeks. I don't think I deserve food either, so why bother getting help for something I don't deserve?
Avatar f tn Then my friend said that anorexic models and people who are anorexic are dumb. Then the other girl agreed that they are stupid and should eat a sandwhich. Last year I didn't eat any lunch and it was a very low point in my anorexia, and all my friends knew about it. Especially this one. I know that she knows I have anorexia. Does she think I'm stupid too? She is by no means a mean person.
Avatar n tn I have had anorexia for over six months now, and about 2 months into it, I stopped getting my period. I'm really scared, and I told my parents what was going on, but they seem to not think it's such a big deal. I have been eating regularly lately, and am doing a lot better; but I am afraid that my period won't come back again, and I won't be able to have kids someday.
