Angiogram through the wrist

Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram through the wrist

angiogram

Avatar f tn discomfort is far less by having the wrist Angiogram, over the Groin Angiogram. Now has ANYBODY here had ANY of the side affects, that I am currently suffering & is this normal on DAY: 4 days, because I am SERIOUSLY over going to GP's, hospitals complaining, if this is indeed normal. As the hospitals here are stretched to there limits, and wait times can take around 8 hours. Also people a lot worse of them my signs listed here. I am a heavy smoker, obese & not fit.
Avatar m tn I had an angiogram through my wrist 4 days ago...they said they nicked a vein but that my arm will bruise. I had a blood pressure cuff around my forearm and the thing on my wrist. Its been very painful and is still a little swollen. Today the bruise is almost to to my elbow, now aching and my hand has began tingling.

Avatar n tn I've read that the angiogram through the wrist has a faster recovery period than the groin one. I've had four via the groin. If all goes well you will leave the hospital the same day as the test. Have the doctors suggested what they expect to find and how they will treat it? From my experience I would delay making a decision on future treatment after the angiogram so you can carefully weight the pros and cons. I was too hasty to make a decision.
Avatar m tn I think that going through the femoral artery is the easiest and safest method, since the catheter will ascend directly through the Aorta, curve with it before entering the coronary branches. The arm track is more difficult, and the carotid is more risky. As far as I know, they are second option when the femoral artery is not accessible due to any injury.
Avatar f tn Numbness is NOT normal. Call your GP or the hospital where you had the angiogram for further advice.
19887518 tn?1486048647 If you are going for an angiogram (catherization) they will have a clearer picture of the blood flow and if possible they will do what they can to clear it at that time. Make sure to ask if they are going through the wrist or groin, the wrist is easier on you! DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a doctor. You should only accept medical advise from a licensed professional.
Avatar m tn You may not have to lay still for hours, they may use the more modern approach and go through the radial artery, through the wrist. This lowers risks even further. Of course, we mustn't overlook the fact that your nuclear scan backs up your stress test.
Avatar n tn At the very end of the exam and discussion the cardio told us that my husband had the option of having a traditional cath which goes from the femoral artery in the groin up to the heart or a newer version starting in the arterial artery in the wrist. He suggested that this method involves less time to stop bleeding than the groin puncture which requires 4 - 6 hours lying flat.
Avatar f tn Also my cardiologist says he is going to do the stents through my wrist ,I had the angiogram through the groin .I was hoping they would put the stents in that way as well.
Avatar m tn s assistant with coronary artery problems which have required several catheterizations in the past, just told me about his last angiogram in which they ran the catheter through the WRIST, via the radial artery. He said it was a piece of cake compared to his previous experiences. Here is more info about this procedure: http://www.oregonlive.com/health/index.ssf/2011/09/treating_heart_disease_through.
Avatar m tn To do this a stent is placed . It is threaded through a cathether from the wrist or from the groin area. The stent is put in during angiography, so the cardiologist can see on screen whats happening in the artery and allowing them to see the blockage and then the increased blood flow result after the stent goes in ! This generally sorts out that particular blockage. So it seems your Dad has had a stenting procedure previously?
Avatar m tn Iam 31, 2 Months before i got the chest pain and I immediately rushed to the hospital. They did the ECG and found little changes in V4 - V5. And I went through the angiogram. The angiogram results shows negative. And doctor discharged from hospital with some prescription for 3 months. Still I am getting the pain in center of chest. Two days before I went to doctor and in ECG found the V6 changes in the lead.
17581860 tn?1458045259 (angiogram) With this procedure, a catheter is guided from the groin or wrist to the coronary arteries and with the use of a contrast agent the arteries are made visible under X-ray radiation imaging. An echo does not provide information about the condition of coronary arteries. There are no medicines that can open heart arteries. There are medicines that can slow or stop the process of deterioration of the arteries.
Avatar f tn This past week I have been having chest pain in the center of my chest through to the middle of my back and my arms and legs feel like the circulation is being cut off. Any input on what I'm looking at would be greatly appreciated.
6887703 tn?1385789354 3 days after a cardiac angiogram I developed severe swelling and pain near the right wrist site. Went to ER 10 days later & a scan showed a clot. I was told to apply heat & return if worse. I returned yesterday (2 weeks later) & another scan showed the same as 1st. I was admitted & told they would do surgery to remove the clot. Yet the next morning they said they felt they would do more damage attempting to remove the clot. I was discharged on 60 mg.
Avatar m tn Ganglion cysts arise from the capsule of a joint or the sheath of a tendon. They are found at different places on the wrist and some ganglion cysts may be painful. Seek the opinion of a healthcare professional. After a clinical examination he/she may further refer you to a specialist. Do keep me posted. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn An angiogram can be performed with a cath (intervention with a probe through the leg vessel to the heart), or ct scan (best is a 128 slice) that views the blood flow (dye has been injected) through the coronary arteries. There isn't a high risk with a cath, and it is not painful, but have an understanding with the doctor whether or not your father wants a stent implant if there is some blockage, and whether the stent(s) are drug coated or not (obtain an opinon what the doctor prefers).
Avatar m tn t see where the blockage is, so a radioactive contrast dye is injected into the pipe so it can flow through with the water. An x-ray is taken at regular intervals to see inside the pipe, because it picks up the dye. This way you can easily see where the blockage is, and how big it is. An Angiogram is pain free, I've had 6 now. They use a local anaesthetic to numb your upper/inner thigh and make a tiny incision to access your femoral artery.
Avatar m tn Its an invasive test, but basically a tiny line is inserted in an artery in the groin or wrist. The doctor threads this to your heart, a contrast dye is released which shows on the monitor for the doctor to view. (Its like a moving live Xray) Blockages are generally spotted promptly with this test. The test result can be clear or if there is CAD, the doctor will discuss options including Bypass or more often Stent placement.
Avatar f tn In most cases angiography will be refused if you are pregnant. I believe the chemicals used pass through the placenta, which means they will enter your child and possibly cause deformities.
Avatar n tn t need any heavy rad doses if there are alternatives. The only (last) angiogram was done through the wrist, not the thigh, and the doctor stated all looked clean. Thanks for any help or responses about the rad doses...
Avatar f tn The test is expensive and invasive, but often done through the radial in your wrist. You will be able to see the screens too if you want, and you can see the contrast dye going through the arteries.
Avatar n tn Bifurcation is where two arteries join. Lumen is the space in the artery where blood flows through. Lesion is the diseased area.
