Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram risks and results

angiogram

1950425 tn?1452914516 i had a angiogram and they found nothing wrong no blood flow problem and the six to eight months later get a phone call saying i have slow blood flow to the left of the heart?
Avatar n tn As earlier stated, the angiogram is the gold standard--but with risks. The CT is very good, noninvasive, and has only the very slight risk associated with radiation.
Avatar m tn As an example, my nuclear scan showed excellent results, but I had already had an angiogram. My angiogram showed a completely blocked LAD and a blockage in my LCx. My right artery was also totally blocked halfway down. Collateral vessels played a huge role. The amount of radiation used is not that high and risks are low.
Avatar f tn To suggest such a procedure while so early in pregnancy must be because they feel you are at great risk with your heart. I would ask about the risks, and I assume they KNOW you are pregnant? In most cases angiography will be refused if you are pregnant. I believe the chemicals used pass through the placenta, which means they will enter your child and possibly cause deformities.
Avatar n tn I got ' t wave inversion ' in resting ECG. Treadmill Test shows " ST changes " Doctor suggested Angiogram. So I underwent Angiogram in my forearm. Result is " normal coronary arteries ". Dr prescribed tablet "RANTAC " for one month.
Avatar n tn I'm having a CT angiogram Thursday. It avoids an interventional procedure that has some risk. X-ray exposture presents some risk for cancer, but my non-interventional cardiologist feels a CT angiogram is sufficient and I'm not disputing his recommendation. I had a cath angiogram and a stent 4 years ago, there was no problem as I was in a hospital setting for 3-4 days. However, some people experience a bleeding problem at the site of the cath insertion and pain that lasts several days.
Avatar n tn It just means your right artery twists and turns a bit more than average. Nothing to worry about.
Avatar m tn I am quite freaked out. So I am scheduled for an angiogram on Feb 5th. They tell me there are risks in this test. The risk is 1 in 1000 people die, stroke or have a heart attack during this proceedure. My question is this, Should I get a 64-slice Coronary CT Angiography? This machine has no risk and will give them the same answers. This test is not covered by our health care insurance. It will cost me $1300. I am not opposed to paying that extra money to eliminate risk. What are your opinions?
Avatar m tn I believe that the amount of radiation exposure is much higher with ct over a standard angiogram. Everyone talks about risks, but if you want clear results, an angiogram is the best option. If your CT shows a blockage, you will have to go for an angiogram anyway. The risks are very small indeed with an angiogram.
17389007 tn?1456248518 too many risks. I did the running, instead of medication for higher heart rate. I just turned 66. No chest pain now that I've reduced my life's stressors. Overall study was good. Normal sinus rhythm. QRS: poor R-wave progression. ECG demonstrated Sinus tachycardia. Nuclear findings: Resting defect # 1.SPECT images demonstrate a small (1-2 segments) perfusion defect, of mild intensity. Located apical anterior. Stress defect # 1.
Avatar n tn Moreover, the benefit is usually finding out whether you need more work or not, something you no doubt need to do, and something which would normally easily justify the risks. When I did it, the doctor played music and cracked jokes. Didn't feel a thing. Bring a friend or family member for sure. Also, choose your doctor wisely.
Avatar f tn Towards the end of the test, I had heart attack symptoms ( which resolved with 3 squirts of nitro) and was sent to the hosp for an angiogram. Results of the angiogram were good , except for a 25% occlusion in a distal aeortic vessel on the back of my heart down by the apex. The Dr. said that my heart had "spasmed" during the stress test. I had never had a problem with the treadmill test. With the med stress echo, my heart was beating faster than I think it ever has....
Avatar m tn Sometimes a dye may be injected into a vein to highlight blood flow in your arteries and veins, CT angiogram and provide additional detail regarding appearance of brain aneurysm. MRI can create detailed images of your brain and show aneurysm’s location. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar m tn If you are concerned about radiation, I suggest to go directly for an angiogram, if you go for the scan and it shows blockages you need the angiogram to place the stents anyway. Also it is important the amount of dye that can damage your kidneys.
Avatar n tn My doctor suggested an Angiogram to make sure that something is not being missed. I am a little nervous and thought someone could answer some questions I have? 1. Is this a fairly safe procedure? 2. What are the risks? 3. Do all the serious risk only happen during the procedure? 4. What are the risk 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours after the procedure, meaning how long before you know you are out of the risk zone? 5.
Avatar f tn Well I am still not certain. When I visited my cardiologist about 4 months ago, I asked if I could have a ct scan done of my coronary arteries to make sure the new stents are holding up. It was discovered through a stress echo that they are, but her reply regarding ct scan was "No, the trouble with ct scans is they don't show up smaller arteries clearly enough".
Avatar m tn He is not pressing however because I have no chest pain and he indicated the stress test results maybe related to the fact I have mycardial bridging. He has left it to me to decide to have another angiogram or just wait 6 months and redo thestress tests. Would appreciate advise.
Avatar n tn hello, my mom is 72 years old, she is type2 diabetic, hyper tensive and have ischemic heart disease, she has been adviced to go through angiogram and shunting after that. how safte it is for her, with her health background? will she survive after that, is it a dangerous procedure?
Avatar f tn s father had had a CT angiogram and now the doctor wanted to do a cath angiogram. I meant to say and said the cath angiogram was unnecessary unless it was agreed and understood that there would in all probablity be angioplasty (stent, balloon) with a cath angiogram. there is a higher than expected probability there would be a stent implanted with a cath angiogram ...there are statistics available).
1327726 tn?1274989263 My troponin test results showed a slight elevation level of 0.12-- my cardiologist suggested an angiogram. Is this too soon? Is it necessary?
Avatar f tn t give a specific diagnosis. The angiogram sounds strange, did you undergo a nuclear stress test and that indicated possible blockage? Ask/demand your doctor put it all together with a forecast on you future health.
Avatar f tn Hi Ken-thanks for responding-have you had an angiogram? My cardiologist put me on im (time released nitrates) in addition to the toprol xl (beta blocker) & said if the angina & SOB continued he wants to do an angiogram-if you did have an angiogram how did they decide when to do it?
Avatar f tn My husband is 66 and recently had a SPECT Myocardial Perfusion Imaging Study (stress test). It was essentially normal, with the exception of the following: "there is a moderate sized reversible defect of the inferior and apical walls". The left ventricle was normal in size and the ejection fractions were 57% at rest and 63% post stress. The internet resources suggest that such a defect could be indicative of a prior silent heart attack. Is this true?
Avatar f tn Sometimes, with medications, we have to weigh the benefits of you taking the medication against the risks that it may cause for your baby. Sometimes the benefits outweigh the risks and sometimes the risks outweigh the benefits. Only you, your ob/gyn and your psychiatrist can decide this. I think that you should sit down with your doctors and go through the medication list and decide together what is appropriate for you.
Avatar n tn Sorry I don't know the answer to ur question but I have got to go for a cath angiogram too and I'm worried sick as the risks have been explained huhh How did you find this test Julie
