Even though I had this wrist discomfort, I would seriously ONLY ever recommend the wrist Angiogram, should you be reading my experience here. Because in comparison to the groin Angiogram & having a heavy wheat bag placed over the groin entry, the pain & discomfort is far less by having the wrist Angiogram, over the Groin Angiogram.
m a 28 year old female, and I was just told I have suspected coronary artery disease. After a myriad of tests, angiogram (through the wrist) is my only option. I want to know about females here who have had angiograms and how they were. I'm actually petrified, and I'm supposed to go in two weeks.
I know the risks are relatively low, but they stand out so much in my mind that I need to have some positive feedback here to help alleviate some of my fears...

My partner is having an angiogram after suffering chest pains a few weeks ago. NAD was found at the time from blood tests and ECG (done over 18 hours). Was kept in overnight. Had no discomfort since, but suffers from type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol which are all controlled and low due to medication.
His chest pains were 4 weeks ago and he's had nothing since.
Has anyone had an angiogram with the catheter inserted in arm or neck instead of the groin? I don't think I could take the groin without serious nerve spasms.
I have to go for angiogram in April, a bit nervous.
At the very end of the exam and discussion the cardio told us that my husband had the option of having a traditional cath which goes from the femoral artery in the groin up to the heart or a newer version starting in the arterial artery in the wrist. He suggested that this method involves less time to stop bleeding than the groin puncture which requires 4 - 6 hours lying flat.
I had an angiogram through my wrist 4 days ago...they said they nicked a vein but that my arm will bruise. I had a blood pressure cuff around my forearm and the thing on my wrist. Its been very painful and is still a little swollen. Today the bruise is almost to to my elbow, now aching and my hand has began tingling.
s assistant with coronary artery problems which have required several catheterizations in the past, just told me about his last angiogram in which they ran the catheter through the WRIST, via the radial artery. He said it was a piece of cake compared to his previous experiences. Here is more info about this procedure:

nuclear stress test 1 week ago showed restricted blood flow. Angiogram done. One of the grafts has backed up blood which is restricting flow. Doc said may get better with exercise or stent the original blocked artery which is a 5 yr old stent on right side that is 90% blocked. Unsure what to do grafts on left side are doing great. What do u think Bill S.
You better check with your doctors, I am not sure about the potential damage due to the radiation dose that you will take during the procedure.
Also if they discover blockages in your coronaries, I do not know about the risk of the medication that you will need.
I have just been scheduled for an angiogram and I'm scared to no end I have a 3 year old son I love to death same as my soon to be wife. I'm so scared something will go wrong during the surgery how coming are complications? Also my ej is 73 is this bad?

Sorry to learn about your dad. I had a CT angiogram for heart this week. Compared to a regular angiogram or catheterization , the CT angiogram can be considered a noninvasive procedure. However, in your dad's case the CT angiogram may also be considered risky because of kidney problems. His kidneys may not be able to deal with the dye used for CT angiogram. I am not a doctor so here I am just giving advice based on my on experience.
I have had a angiogram 10 years ago and everything was clear, no blockages anywhere. Now, there is slight angina more often than it used to seem to occur, but when I excercise, nothing hurts, all is well. Blood tests are all OK, but the physician suggested the CT scan.
An angiogram is a procedure that images a contrast agent that passes through the vessels during rest and then with exertion to observe if there is any obstruction. There shouldn't be any risk with a CT scan, and if the procedure is with a cath the risk may be a problem at the entery site (groan) as a diabetic may have some difficuty with the healing process other risks are minimal i.e. rupture, uncontrolled bleeding, etc. Doctors are quickly available if there is a problem.
s not a normal reaction to an angiogram. Possibly it has nothing to do with the angiogram. It might be something more or less unrelated. It kind of sounds like a migraine type of thing, on the face it. It could even be some type of reaction to relief of stress. We think of stress as being able to cause physical symptoms, and it certainly can, but sometimes just a sudden offset of stress can cause a reaction in the body.
hey my dad is suppose to go in for an angiogram but he fears what might happen to him if he does. i was wondering if there was possible any alternative procedure or something else he could possibly do.
You can't get much less invasive than an Angiogram. Just a tiny incision in the groin
area as opposed to having your sternum seperated and the rib cage pulled apart.
Risks with Angiograms are miniscule. If they find something life threatening they can
treat it at the same time. What is it that puts you off Angio technology in particular?
Personally I think its the best thing since the invention of the wheel.
