Angiogram procedure thru arm

Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram procedure thru arm

angiogram

Avatar m tn Has anyone had an angiogram with the catheter inserted in arm or neck instead of the groin? I don't think I could take the groin without serious nerve spasms.
Avatar n tn He said using the wrist is successful 98% of the time - for 2% of patients there is sometimes a problem getting through the shoulder area and then they need to restart using the groin. If it goes though okay then the whole procedure is done as it would have been done starting in the groin. An angioplasty and stent can also be done this way. Has anyone had a cath using the wrist instead of the groin? Anyone have any suggestions or advice?
974371 tn?1424653129 t say we have the best doctors where I live. Anyway, I am afraid an angiogram will be ordered and I really do NOT want one of those done. No way could I get through that and understand they keep you awake? Wondering if there is an alternative and if anyone has had the angiogram done and what your experiences were.
Avatar f tn An angiogram will help determine if you blockage(s). I first had the procedure done in 2005 and the doctor found an artery with 90% blockage. He put in a stent.
Avatar n tn I had quadruple bypass surgery 13 years ago( using the left internal mammary artery grafting to the left anterior descending coronary) and recently had been having increasing jaw pains and upper back pains ( no dizziness or fainting). I had all sorts of cardiac tests (short of angiogram) that showed within normal limits Ejection fraction was normal but still I had these increasing symptoms of jaw pain relieved by rest.
Avatar m tn The only true test, which is a procedure, is the angiogram. My mom had the nuclear stress test and was told that it was not bad and a few months later she was totally plugged in two main arteries and about 99 percent plugged in the other. Have you had an echocardiogram yet? An echocardiogram can check the heart valves.
Avatar n tn I had a vein that was closed after a bypass procedure and they looked for 30 minutes in a standard angiogram procedure to try and find it. At one point they believed they had, but a CT angiogram found the vein and it was in a totally different area.
Avatar m tn As an example, my nuclear scan showed excellent results, but I had already had an angiogram. My angiogram showed a completely blocked LAD and a blockage in my LCx. My right artery was also totally blocked halfway down. Collateral vessels played a huge role. The amount of radiation used is not that high and risks are low.
Avatar m tn This Thursday, I am scheduled to have a second cath, this time a radial procedure--through the arm as I had complications with the last. I believe my cardiologist is simply doing this procedure to prove to me that my ongoing symptoms are not cardiac related. I am scared but feel I have no other options. Just for the record and at the urging of my family I did see a second cardiologist to review all of my records initial cath report.
976897 tn?1379167602 In my last hospital admission, I was speaking with a Cardiologist before my emergency Angiogram. I asked if the catheter could be put through my radial artery rather than the femoral. He said that it isn't a problem even though I've had a Cabgx3. When I got to the Angio-suite I was told "you cannot have anything except the femoral artery used because we don't have images of your bypass and we could take a wrong turning". Personally I find this crazy.
Avatar n tn nuclear stress test 1 week ago showed restricted blood flow. Angiogram done. One of the grafts has backed up blood which is restricting flow. Doc said may get better with exercise or stent the original blocked artery which is a 5 yr old stent on right side that is 90% blocked. Unsure what to do grafts on left side are doing great. What do u think Bill S.
Avatar m tn You will be given anti-anxiety meds before the procedure and will be largely out of it during the procedure. The difficult part is keeping your leg or arm still afterwards, they use arteries in either limb to gain access. An angiogram will either rule in or out a problem. If there is no problem, you will have a baseline to compare if you have problems down the road. If you have a problem now it will be identified.
Avatar n tn the cardiologist diagnosed me with stable angina and upped my atenolol dose and he order an angiogram procedure for me. i am very anxious and i can not handle that type of invasive procedure. he told me that i could be at risk of a heart attack and himself and the nurses were upset at me that i declined the cath procedure. my question to you guys is..could my heart rate at 190 BMP have been svt or afib/flutter just mimicking ST elevation? can sinus tach get up to 190?
Avatar f tn You better check with your doctors, I am not sure about the potential damage due to the radiation dose that you will take during the procedure. Also if they discover blockages in your coronaries, I do not know about the risk of the medication that you will need.
748902 tn?1286034758 i have to have a angiogram and im extremly terrified, not so much about the procedure but i am NEEDLE PHOBIC so that is the only thing on my mind, i havent seen a doctor yet to discuss this, it was the nurse that told me i need the angiogram after i did a treadmill test, and having chest pain. Is there anything that they can do so i dont need a NEEDLE?
Avatar f tn I have just been scheduled for an angiogram and I'm scared to no end I have a 3 year old son I love to death same as my soon to be wife. I'm so scared something will go wrong during the surgery how coming are complications? Also my ej is 73 is this bad?
Avatar n tn Not female but had the angiogram thru the wrist..It was probably the easiest test I have been thru....If I hadnt been drugged a bit I could have gotten off the table and walked away...You will have a tight bracelet put on your wrist that will then be pressurised...The air pressure keeps the hole from bleeding...After about 4 or 5 hours they start to let the air out a little at a time.... It takes about 8 hours to let all the air out but you can walk around the whole time.......
Avatar n tn Hello Padma, Sorry to learn about your dad. I had a CT angiogram for heart this week. Compared to a regular angiogram or catheterization , the CT angiogram can be considered a noninvasive procedure. However, in your dad's case the CT angiogram may also be considered risky because of kidney problems. His kidneys may not be able to deal with the dye used for CT angiogram. I am not a doctor so here I am just giving advice based on my on experience.
776302 tn?1241091853 Has anybody out there had any side effects or complications from the angiogram test, the cardiac catherization? Please let me know if you have had any.
Avatar f tn not sure what you mean by your comments. First comment you made: "If there are no blockages and your heart is healthy why was there a risky intervention without some prior knowledge regarding your heart's condition?" You have an angiogram in order to find out or rule out blockages. The other test that is used to identify an issue would be a Stress test but they only reveal disease or issues 85% of the time and are not as accurate as angiograms.
Avatar m tn m not a doctor but the pain in your arm is probably coming from your heart not your arm. In any event. this is NOT a good sign. Get a new doctor if you need to, or even another hospital but get help NOW!
Avatar m tn I saw a new cardiologist at a different hospital and he thinks I should have a CT Angiogram.. A CT Angiogram is a none invasive procedure, it takes 3d pictures of the heart using a ct scane 64 slice method. The scane can pic up blocked blood flow and narrow blood vessels.. But I would like to know witch one of the two is more reliable test.. Considering I had a negative nuclear stress test.. Will the ct angiogram be a more persised test at pinpointing and finding a possible problem..
Avatar n tn An angiogram is a procedure that images a contrast agent that passes through the vessels during rest and then with exertion to observe if there is any obstruction. There shouldn't be any risk with a CT scan, and if the procedure is with a cath the risk may be a problem at the entery site (groan) as a diabetic may have some difficuty with the healing process other risks are minimal i.e. rupture, uncontrolled bleeding, etc. Doctors are quickly available if there is a problem.
Avatar f tn Angiogram is any procedure that takes images of the vessels filled with a contrast agent. I had a CT scan 128 slice procedure several months ago. Inaddition to the injection of contrast dye, there is an injection to lower the heart rate (below 60 is the objective). That procedure provides images to reveal any soft plaque between any of the 3 layers lining the vessel as well as any buildup of plaque in the lumen (vessel channel).
