Androgel muscle

Common Questions and Answers about Androgel muscle

androgel

I am 49 year old male, six weeks ago I started using Androgel after over a year of testing. The second week after starting I have had muscle weekness. I also must have had arthritis in my neck, back and hips that has become inflamed. I am having several other back pains that we are having a hard time tracking down. Is there any information out there that might address this. My endo believes that the product should help, but the time frame fits.
I love the results of Androgel i.e. increased libido, muscle mass, energy level, etc, but I am wondering if its worth it. My relationships at home are suffering badly.
So I was pretty excited about something that sounded like it could solve some problems. He prescribed AndroGel, a topical gel that is rubbed into the chest and upper arms, 5 mg per day. I did tell him about my past sexual behavior problems. Two weeks into it, I start getting really horny.
My total T was 180 and normal values are 240 to 800 according to my lab. So back in October I was started on 2.5 mg (2 pumps) of androgel. Level went up to 440 Total T. I pushed the doc to let me try 5g (4 pumps) so we can get into he high range. I have been on that now for 3.5 months Just got checked and my T was 785 and Ftrr T I believe 22.0 (very good). I fell GREAT! But about 2 weeks ago he checks my blood pressure and it was 145/90.
I tried the androgel pump, but that stuff is a pain in the butt. You have to rub it all over, im afraid to be around my kids. It also gave me this weird flulike feeling all the time. Didnt do much for my libido, made my testicles ache like mad. Add the aching on top of my thyroid discomfort and it didnt make for a happy life. I am now going to try the testosterone patch. Its 2.5. I am not a bodybuilder, i work out, but just a normal build, rather slender in fact.
I recently was diagnosed with prostate cancer previously treated with apparently successfully but it has returned. After the initial treatments I was left with severe fatigue, loss of muscle mass and bone density so i was finally treated for these symptoms with Androgel (testosterone) which was very effective. My doctors have advised me to cease using the testosterone as it fuels my cancer. I now am experiencing great fatigue again and I fear my other symptoms will reappear.
After, I sufferred from low testosterone levels and was treated with androgel in skin application form. I recently learned that my cancer has recured. I noted that my testosterone levels soared. I ceased using the gel packs. Now, I have hot flashes frequently, daily, feel very fatigued and am worried about losing muscle mass, bone density and depression. My doctor said withdrawl is the reason for the problems and will pass in a month or so.
It is possible that low T is responsible for the severity and long duration of this episode. The Rx prescribed is Androgel...but at $250 an Rx I am unable to have it filled...I have no insurance and not enough money to start the treatment...anyone else have their Test level checked as part of a depression profile ? If so, what therapy were you prescribed.
I have low testosterone from being on a pain pump implant for almost 7 years and I'm currently on Androgel but the side effect is that it keeps me up all night long like insomnia. I have been living this way for 4 months. I can't go to sleep until 4 or 5 am every morning. If I were to switch to the shots or the pellets would that rid me of the current side effects that I'm suffering from?
I have been on Androgel for three months and my T has gone from 200 to over 700, almost 800. My doctor thinks I should cut back but I really don't want too. I'm and old guy who thinks I have been low for many years and am enjoying the ride. What is the danger of too high?
I have been on several T supplements withouit success in relieving symptoms. Androgel resulted in my PSA going from 1.4 to over 5. I was advised to stop the Androgel after which my PSA returned to 1.4. I am on testosterone injections currently and my fatigue is worse. I just finished a blood draw yesterday and the results are not available yet. My last results showed a TSH of 0.6, T3 of 2.3, and T4 of 1.1. I am currently on 88mcg of Synthroid and 10 mcg of Cytomel.
fatigue, low libido, depressed mood and if your fat/muscle percentage is suboptimal, you are most likely hypogonadal. While the previous poster did mention hormone replacement, he left out the option of a topical, transdermal gel that can be applied to your skin daily. This ia a much less painful method than injections and will deliver more consistent levels provided you stay on therapy. The most used version of this is AndroGel.
When I got low on Fortesta and ran out while bantering with the insurance company, I started losing muscle mass, constant fatigue, depression and absolutely no sex drive. I am now using Androgel and everything is back right! Don't worry, you look okay with those numbers.
After having consulted with a urologist, I was put on monthly testosterone injections to boost the levels. Low testosterone can be the cause of ED, low bone denstity and muscle loss. Most people will be concerned about ED but you can see that normal levels are also needed for other functions. God bless.
to check my testosterone level as part of my blood work, mostly out of curiosity, but also because I have trouble building muscle mass and strength despite putting in my time at the gym. Other than that, I have no other common low t symptoms. I have a great sex drive, no problem getting an erection, plenty of energy, have had 2 children recently (so am fertile),in good physical shape etc. My first test came back at 168. He did 1 more and it came back at 160.
Hi, my husband has mild depression, low sex drive, soft erections, desesatization (which makes it harder for him to achieve orgasm), gained fat around his middle, more tired, but doesn't sleep well, loss of muscle mass, acne on his back, low sperm count, low sperm mobility, and he's had benign enlarged prostate and frequent urination at night. Plus he no longer has morning erections. These symptoms have developed one at a time over the yrs and has grown worse with age.
I don't know if these are symptoms of a condition or side effects of some of my meds, so can someone help? I take Norvasc, Altace, Lexapro, Crestor, AndroGel, Doxycycline Hyclate, and Advair 250/50. I have been on the first 4 for years. The last 3 have been added within the last several months. I also have Severe Sleep Apnea, but I use my APAP religiously. AHI is usually <4, but will on ocassion sneak up to 5.
I am certain, without a doubt that I have hypogonadism, (probably primary hypogonadism), and I want to know if blood tests check for testosterone levels so that I can hopefully get referred to a urologist/endocrinologist so that i can get prescribed androgel or testosterone shots. Just wondering, how likely is it that your family doctor will tell you to see a urologist/endrocrinologist if your regular and free testosterone levels are below 300ng/dl?

He has seen an endo who has diagnosed him with hypothyroidism. He has been receiving treatments of Synthroid and Androgel. Unfortunately, as his TSH levels go up, his T levels are going down: DATE T TSH 12/20/2006 222 3.397 2/5/2007 182 n/a 5/12/2007 251 4.74 8/28/2007 240 4.139 12/10/2007 388 3.849 3/18/2007 273 3.909 6/16/2008 170 2.888 9/17/2008 n/a 2.382 He is now taking 112mcg of Synthroid daily along with Androgel. His PSA came back negative.

Approximately one year ago, blood results showed that his testosterone levels were around 230. He was prescribed Androgel in larger doses than are typically prescribed which actually resulted in a reduction of his testosterone levels, down to 150. This prompted the dr. to order testosterone injections (every two weeks) in addition to the Androgel therapy.
if only I was vaccinated) - Sometimes a muscle twitch or a muscle spasm, and other times there is a spot where I feel like someone quickly pricked me with a needle on the bottom of my foot (I believe, in reflexology, it is the same spot where the liver is) I can only attribute all these symptoms to Hep B, as most came about with it... and my symptoms started 3 days after a dental visit too.
About two years ago I was diagnosed with andropause. The uroligist gave me androgel 5mg.He said it might help with the anxiety/Depression I have had for most of my life. The first dose made me feel incredible for most of the day,but days after that panned out.Long story short. Now,any time I take any form of testosterone it makes my anxiety/depression worse.Even at 1.25mg of androgel.
Then it started getting tougher and I started taking more. I also started taking androgel and even though I had more energy, lost weight, and gained muscle, it really did not improve my erections. My urologist took me off of it and gave me 5mg of cialis every day and 20 mg to take when I want to perform. I just don't think its working out real well. The long refraction period is not affected by taking 20 or more mg of cialis at all. What are your thoughts?
He proceeded to place me on a hormone named Norditropin Nordiflex which I had to inject into my deltoid 7 days a week at bed time, he also placed me on 8 pumps of Androgel daily. It did'nt take long for me to lose fat and gain lean muscle mass. He insisted that this would take care of the way I was feeling and supposeably he kept my primary physician up to date on my progress. This did not take care of my symtoms, It just made things worse.
I recently had blood work done for an unrelated matter (kidney stone pain) and my blood work revealed that I had low testosterone levels ( I will put my blood work in the post). Over the last few years I've noticed I've gained increased belly fat, lost alot of muscle mass and have a decreased sex drive. This is something I'm hoping I can overcome as I'm a newly wed and married to a very beautiful woman.
In 3/2010 (I was 26 at that time), I had a blood test for testosterone. I check for that because I never have any mustache, my muscle do not grow and I have a big belly. I'm tired all the time also. Here are the results (morning blood test): Testosterone (total): 238ng/dL Albumin: 4.7g/dL SHBG: 17.6nmol/L Several other blood tests shows my testosterone to be between 210 to 240 ng/dL The doctor said my testosterone is just borderline low and refused to give me medication.
Statin drug are often associated with side effects including nausea, headaches, dizziness, sleep disturbances, sexual dysfunction, fatigue, shortness of breath, memory loss, liver problems, muscle weakness, muscle pain, peripheral neuropathy and cardiomyopathy, and congestive heart failure due to a depletion of Coenzyme Q10. I would highly recommend taking Coenzyme Q10 supplements. Nexium is a short term drug only.
