Androgel and hair loss

Common Questions and Answers about Androgel and hair loss

androgel

I would NOT quit Androgel. I started using Androgel because of depression, hair loss, shaving every 3 days (which is good!), atrophying of all muscles and my bone density dropped. I started Androgel 1.62% and everything improved greatly Good luck and do this only with doctors approval.

A few months ago my dermatologist put me on finasteride (Propecia) for hair loss. This drug blocks DHT which causes hair loss in men. DHT however is responsible for libido, erections and other sexual characteristics. I've noticed since I've started the finasteride that my ED is somewhat returning so I've decided to stop taking it. I'd rather have some hair loss than have ED.
Side effects to this drug usually are nausea, vomiting, headache, hair loss, change in sexual drive, or redness/swelling/change in color of the skin, or acne, swelling (edema), trouble breathing (including very slow or shallow breathing and trouble breathing while sleeping), trouble urinating, mental/mood changes (e.g., depression), dizziness, breast pain or enlargement, weight gain, change in size or shape of the testicles etc. Get a ultrasound abdomen with ECG done.
Thanks, I'll check it out. I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't have become a priest. My sex drive is fairly low right now. I assumed it's from being low level edgy all the time from the taper, but I never thought about this aspect of it. Something else to worry about. :) Meanwhile, methadone causes hair loss I hear, so I don't even get THAT benefit from low testosterone! I think you have to be on a lot for that to happen though.
I am currently on 88mcg of Synthroid and 10 mcg of Cytomel. My symptoms of fatigue, hair loss, weight gain (more fat than weight), tinnitus, and muscle cramps are still with me. I am just over 5'9" and weigh 170.
Hello, Low testosterone can cause sexual dysfunction (unable to maintain erections), reduced sex drive (reduced sexual activity) , decreased energy, loss of body hair, reduced shaving, depressed mood , decrease in bone strength and reduced muscle mass. For the same, you can consult a urologist and get your serum testosterone levels checked. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
I displayed all the symptoms you listed above except I also had hair loss and I did not have two unprotected sexual episodes. I use a very expensive testosterone replacement therapy named Androgel 1.62 %. It has restored everything you listed including the hair loss. The greatest side effect (positive) is in my arms. Androgel is rubbed on the upper arms between the elbow and shoulder. The biceps and triceps are almost doubled their original size in one year and I don't work with weights.
Regarding the hair loss, when I started going through menopause at age 47 I would find a hair ball in the shower. Lasted for a while and then stopped. I've read that hair loss can be attributed to a lack of estrogen. So not sure if you're at that age or not. Hair loss is also a symptom that some people with lupus deal with. I've had some estrogen issues just recently and have noticed my skin is a lot drier than usual, probably a result of the lowering estrogen.
thanks Additional Details I don't know if I should say this or not, but in addition to feeling Extremely fatigued/lethargic, depressed, mood swings/irritable, anxiety and experiencing extremely dry skin, muscle loss, poor sleep, diminished hair growth, having trouble remembering and concentrating on anything (even the most basic of tasks), and frequent urination....my testicles have shrunken to the size of medium-seized grapes in a matter of months.
Again, it is very strange that I would experience hair loss on my face, eyebrow, head, gain weight, lose sex drive, experience extreme fatigue, and facial flushing all at the same time. Lastly, the dermatologist thought it was odd that my eyebrow hair falls out and re-grows weekly. He normally sees a complete re-growth or no re-growth at all.It seems when I use my over the counter inhauler (contains epinephrine) my flushing gos away?????

For example, I do not have Abdominal pain, bloating, gas, or indigestion, Constipation, Decreased appetite, Diarrhea, Nausea and vomiting, Unexplained weight loss, Bruising easily, Depression, Hair loss, Itchy skin, Mouth ulcers, Muscle cramps, Nosebleeds, Seizures or Unexplained short height. The sympoms from this page that I do have include anxiety, numbness in hands and fingers, fatigue, joint pain (mild). I am unsure of the lactose intolerance.
I have now been on Androgel for 5 weeks and have lost all libido and interest in babes. Up until Oct 09 I had been on Testosterone cypionate injections every 10 days. I had noticed that for the entire several years that I was on this regimen, a sex drive cycle. For days 2,3, 4 and 5 after an injection, my libido and interest were low. For days 6,7,8,9 and 10, my libido increased every day. This always puzzled me because it contradicted expectations.

Never used hair loss products before. I don't have a family history of early hair loss in men either. Here are my blood results before starting androgel, looks like the urologist ignored the FSH. Let me know if you need anymore information... FSH 1.4 mIU/mL (OUT OF RANGE: range = 1.5-8.0 mIU/mL) LH 2.7 miU/mL (in range) Prolactin 7.
How you get HRT is not as important as how well it works. I've done both Androgel and Injections and they both work but they also both needed a number of labs and a sit downs with the doctor to talk over the results before the levels were adjusted so it worked. Re the 100mg Injections every two weeks? In my experience thats really really low. Ask your doctor to get you into range and quit trying to dial you up from zilch.
Constant constipation or diarrea and have put on weight which is something I have never done before and hair loss. I believe they are all related. Maybe down to me damaing my prostrate causing chemical imbalance. 6. not sure what this is. 7. no apart from the obvious shrinkage. 8. Just recently I have started experiancing a dull ache. Its the pain you get if you have had a hard on for a long time but I now get them when I am flacid? 9. A dull ache. 10. yes, anal play with my gf.
Then came horrible testicle pain, I mean unbearable, and it still persists. I went back to the surgeon and he sent me to a uroligist. It was a week before I could get in to see him so I went to the ER. They took blood, urine, and an ultrasound. I was diagnosed with prostitis, fluid on my testicles and varicose viens & prescribed atibodies & pain meds. (Did no good) The uroligist checked me out and said it was from the hernia repair surgery, more pain meds.
i just read yours and saw how similar our circumstances are im most worried about loss of testical size and libido is it realted to varicocele?
I have had MRI's done of the Cervical spine(neck region) and Lumbar spine (lower back) I have a lg hernated disc in my neck and degenetive disc disease with an annular tear in my lower back. I am going to also request my doctors to do an MRI of Thoracic spine (middle back) because they haven't done an MRI of that section yet. I am not sure if the mid back problems is caused by these issues I know I have. I would suggest you dig into the problem more.
